WOW AVOID if you have any illness

So i have a low grade glioma brain tumour. Never had treatment - not so much as a swig of medicine.

Spent the normal 30 minutes on the phone to be declined for insurance by a company advertising that they cover people with illness.

An easy application, extensive cover for an excellent price. As of yet, have not needed to claim, grateful for that. I feel confident that I had to, I would receive value for money.

I made an error with dates of travel to France. I only realised when I got an email from Flexicover welcoming me home. I contacted customer services with not much hope of correcting my error. With proof of travel it was sorted quickly. Good to know they will do this.

These guys used to be really good but now they are impossible to get hold of on the phone and the website has glitches. Makes you worry what would happen if you needed to make a claim.

Absolute joke don’t go with these at all. I’ve been travelling had to put a claim in they don’t even read half of the stuff that you sent them. You’re resending them over and over again they don’t even understand the importance of someone’s liberty at a stand!

Despite doing our utmost to list all medical conditions (I even included having the flu last year), my wife received a letter after we took out the policy but before our holiday. It was a follow-up for a mole on her back that she had casually mentioned to the GP nearly two years ago. At the time, they said they would add her to a waiting list, and we forgot all about it. As a result, we didn’t declare it, and the letter came unexpectedly.

This led to a test being arranged for the mole, and we were left waiting for the results with no guarantee they would arrive before our holiday. (In the end, it took over six weeks, though thankfully the results were all clear.) I contacted Flexicover to inform them of the situation and ask how it might affect our cover. The tone of everyone I spoke to was slightly accusatory, as if we had deliberately withheld the information, and overall quite blunt.

Getting through to them was also incredibly difficult, the phone was our only option for this type of request, and it took multiple long calls with long wait times (including three abandoned attempts).

In the end, I sought alternative quotes from other providers I knew would cover this type of situation, just in case I couldn't get a timely response from Flexicover. A week before our holiday, just as I was about to switch to a different insurer and cancel Flexicover, we finally received verbal confirmation that we were covered. However, it was far more stressful than it needed to be. I never received anything in writing to confirm the update, despite specifically requesting this. I was told it would be reflected in the policy documents, but it never was, which left me wondering whether that could have been used against us had we needed to make a claim.

I won’t be using them again.
