Find a Builder
The Federation of Master Builders is the largest trade association for the UK construction industry and a not-for-profit organisation that is run by members for members.
We support small and medium-sized construction companies to grow and manage their business by providing a wide range of support services such as contract templates, unlimited expert advice, online training, and access to a community of fellow professional builders.
Our members must pass an independent inspection and strict vetting process before they join the FMB to ensure they meet the high standards expected of a Master Builder company.
We also connect clients with professional, local builders they can trust through our free Find a Builder service. Our series of ultimate guides for home renovation projects helps clients to understand what to expect during a building project.

We have recently been accepted to the Federation of Master Builders. They have guided us through the process and been extremely helpful

In my experience, FMB are a credible organisation watch long side trustMark to improve peoples experience within the building industry which as a member. I totally agree with there’s so many cowboy builders out there people off.
But they don’t advertise enough no one really knows about FMB and what they stand for.
All I ever hear of people as they’ve been on checker trade etc. as they think this is a highly vetted Company’s and then get ripped off and find FMB by googling by the way number 12 when I Google.
In my professional opinion, FMB need to get out there more with the general public and not just target good Builders and developers to join.

Our application process was quite thorough and time-consuming, but we anticipated that as part of the journey. We were required to provide details of several recent projects we had completed and, finally, undergo an inspection of a newly finished project.
It is reassuring to see that FMB’s application process is so rigorous, as it reinforces that its membership consists of like-minded, professional companies. Unfortunately, this level of diligence is not always the norm in the building industry—despite the claims of some of the biggest brands.
We are proud to display the FMB logo on our vehicles and look forward to actively participating in the FMB network.

Lindsey was excellent in her support of our final resolution of ongoing issues with our builder, who wasn't responding to our requests to complete outstanding works and rectify issues. She was professional, responsive and effective in how she managed the situation to bring a resolution, with both parties remaining amicable throughout the process. We felt assured and confident in her approach and the results she achieved, for which we are very grateful.

Horrendous customer service.
Do not expect to be treated decently or with the courtesy of a human being.
We have used the services of FMB for a couple of years, and after seeing not much benefit from them, we did not renew the contract.
We forgot that we since omitted to remove their logo from our website. After 5 years of not using their service, we were threatened over the phone by an angry lady that doesn't seem to wish to acquire new clients but to never give them a chance to retry their service and instead threaten them, be extremely rude and unreasonable.

Very disappointed with their services—they just take money from clients and are completely unprofessional. Don’t waste your time with them; you’ll lose both time and money. The worst on the market. Their staff is incapable of communicating with customers. They have no expertise in the field and have no idea how to handle clients. Extremely dissatisfied. Stay away from them—you’ll just waste your time and money. Be careful!

Because it's a bona fide Government endorsed body we value our membership.
You do go and physically check works and liaise with FMB customers which is reassuring.

We now pay over £80 per month for a magazine. We get maybe one lead about every 3 months and when we apply to get the lead its already gone as so many people apply for that one lead. This will be my last year with the federation unless the service improves. For that £80 we can get 5 - 6 leads a month with my builder or my job quote for example.

I question how much you vet some of your members,
Take one example, Green Builders, Thomas Sproul,
he claims to have 20 years experiences, he has refurbished a modern house, all of his website pictures are of other contractors work, he worked in his dads shop and then in an office, for me for 6 years, so all his references must be false.

I was very happy with the service provided by Amanda of the FMB Dispute Resolution Team. I was kept updated at every stage of the process and most of all the outcome was satisfactory to both our client and ourselves. This services is very important when there are disputes between client and contrator to have third party involvement. Very happy with outcome and can highly recommend this process to anyone finding themselves in a simular situation.
