About Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines
Written by the company
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines operates a fleet of three elegant, smaller-sized ships, Bolette, Borealis and Balmoral. The size of our ships allows us access to more interesting places, and means we can dock in the heart of some of the world’s most beautiful cities, and our itineraries are carefully crafted so that our guests travel to these amazing places at the very best time of year.
On board, Signature Experiences showcase the history, culture, nature and flavours of the destinations you will visit – from Itinerary Insights, where special guest speakers and local experts will host talks, workshops and demonstrations to provide a deeper understanding of the destinations, to Treats of the Region, where guests can enjoy local delicacies and learn how to create delicious regional dishes.
Plus, with each ship carrying 1,300 guests or less, our ships are small enough to offer a warm, friendly and personal service where nothing is ever too much trouble.
At Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, we channel our 175 years of experience into making your holidays simply unforgettable by meticulously crafting our cruises to provide an experience that helps to create memorable journeys for our guests.
With sailings from five departure ports around the UK, your next Fred. Olsen cruise is closer than you think.

The food and the waiter service was excellent.…
We cruised between 22nd and 27th May. The food and the waiter service was excellent. A great variety of food. The entertainment was good and varied with plenty going on al day long.
The cleaners were pleasant and helpful. All staff were very hard working.
Despite the weather being average the sights were wonderful.
The only downside of the experience was that although the eagerly anticipated trips on land were wonderful .....the time actually spent at locations on both Orkney and Harris was far too rushed. This was commented on by all the passengers to the guides.
First holiday with Fred.Olsen
First holiday with Fred.Olsen. Very impressed all round. Well organised, food and service good, cabin kept very clean, entertainment…. Brilliant! Had a couple of issues on one of the trips we went on…. Waiting to hear after making comment on our report we made on our return to the ship.
Everything was perfect
Everything was perfect! The cabin, the staff, the food were all impeccable. We’re already planning on taking their world cruise … and have already booked another cruise with them in two months.
Booking was dead easy, the customer service staff were knowledgeable, professional and friendly. I can’t say enough good things about Fred Olsen!

Great cruise,as usual the crew were fantastic very friendly and helpful
A feast of architecture on the Dalmatian coast
This the longest cruise we have taken. Embarkation was smooth and at all stages of the cruise we were kept informed of forthcoming events. The staff across the ship were first class.
If there was a criticism it would be the tightly packed days of port calls. This proved exhausting. of course, the Dalmatian coast has ports near to each other, but the planners maybe could have staggered the port calls with a day's pause in between. The excursions were well organised and informative.
We have said it before
We have said it before, but it is your staff who make the experience really good. We have travelled with several other cruise lines and, although the staff are usually good, your staff too the lot.
The crew were amazing
The crew were amazing, so friendly and helpful and always smiling. The sea was calm which made it more enjoyable and the destinations were very good. It didn’t even matter about missing one port in the end as we had a lovely second day in Genoa.
Efficient service
Efficient service. Friendly crew.
Booking process a little complicated. If I book through an agent, why send some items to them, some to me?
Very friendly crew
Very friendly crew, nothing too much trouble.
Interesting itinaries.Excellant food and several of the crew recognised us from previous cruises.
Up to usual high standard. Ideal size of ship and with nearly maximum capacity still plenty of room to sit, drink, read at your leisure.
great staff, great food, unusual destinations great value.
We keep using Fred Olsen because they are smaller ships and go to interesting places. One of the few small cruise lines doing outside cabins. Excellent food excellent service. Friendly staff.
The amazing crew really made my cruise…
The amazing crew made my cruise extremely enjoyable. Ship is spotless with constant cleaning and the food is delicious. I particularly enjoyed the amazing Andrew Robley’s shows, such incredible talent and I can’t wait to hopefully see him performing very soon again on one of Fred Olsen’s ships.
Everyone most helpful
Everyone most helpful, eating in the upper restaurant staff were wonderful and couldn't do enough for one.
Could do with a bigger dancing floor as you can only get a few dances on the floor at the same time.
Exploring the Dalmation Coast - Paul and Ruth
On the positive side.
1 The excellent service from staff, including cabin cleaning, waiters at dinner and other locations. Also staff at the main enquiry desk. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
2 Excellent food throughout the cruise.
3 Most of the tours we booked were excellent and some of the guides were very good.
4. The T loop system in the auditoruim was excellent.
5 Most of the shows were excellent and Andrew Robley was outstanding. His presentation and singing were amazing. We really loved his voice and his abilty use an amazing vocal range.
6 The Bolette crew show was very enjoyable, particularly the boiler men.
7. The cruise director Corey Williams was amazing and his singing was most enjoyable. He has a really beautiful voice.
8. The Interdenominational church services conducted by Rev, Jim Roberts were excellent.
9. Most of the talks were really informative and enjoyable.
The booking of the cruise was easy and the administration staff were excellent and helpful.
On the negative side (we are trying to be helpful):
1. A large percentage of the tour guides were very repetitive and talked too much and gave too much unnecessary detail. Only a very small percentage of what was said could be remembered after the tour. Quite a number of other folks on the tour also agreed with this comment.
It would be far more helpful if more detailed information of each place and country we visited was written down and provided by the company.
2. The VOX system that was supplied was not compatible with hearing aids. Paul has hearing aids and was unable to use it. SAGA provides ear phones that fit over hearing aids and they can be hired by paying a deposit which was refunded when they were returned. Fred Olson should get hold of some.
This cruise was one of the best we have ever been on. Many thanks
Lovely ship
Lovely ship, well appointed and with good facilities. Everything we wsmtef was there. Although a smaller ship, ig never feels crowded
Your staff are a massive strength. Courteous, professional, and wonderfully friendly. They sèem to genuinely enjoy their roles. Our waiters and cabin maids were great. But every crew member I met were utterly charming.
The daytime emtertainment was very. I really enjoyed the bridge sessions, the lecture programmes, and best of all the 2 classical concerts from the singer amd guitarist. The evening entertainment was generally good, but some were less to our taste than others. The new showcase shows felt a little underprepared occasionally. The entertsinment staff were great fun
Embarking and disembarking procefures were very smooth and straightforward. I thought them very slick. The baggage handlers at Southampton were great.
The trips were good generally, though missing out the La Cinque Terra and Portofino trips were unfortunate, though entirely the right decisions from.s safety perspective. The Milan and replacement La Spezia trips were highlights, as was the Cartagena trip. The guides provided by Trumpy Tours were all very good, as were the Spanosh guides.
I thought the itinery was good. It was nice to get off the ship in Gibralter. The surprise for me was Cartagena, a truly lovely city. That we missed out on Portofino was unfortinate, but we really enjoyed the extra day in Genoa, and we got a chance to see the city thay we hadn't expected.
Overall the cruise was excellent, and we have already booked our next one!
small ship experience.
We enjoy the smaller ship experience.
All the staff onboard are excellent.
The food is very good
Entertainment was generally good apart from one dreadful comedian. On this cruise I found the speakers subject less interesting than previously. The classical musicians were excellent.
