​Embarking on the Diploma in Garden Design at the British Academy of Garden Design has been a thoroughly rewarding experience. The course is thoughtfully structured, gradually building knowledge and confidence, making it ideal for beginners. The tutors are exceptionally responsive and supportive, always ready to assist with queries and provide valuable feedback.

I finally made the decision to retrain and leave full-time teaching, so I’m currently completing the Postgraduate Diploma and really enjoying it. It’s challenging but so much fun learning new skills, and I appreciate being able to work it around family life. Feedback has always been prompt and clear - the tutors are brilliant and student services has always been very helpful. I can see myself improving with each assignment. Highly recommend for anyone mulling over starting something new!

Loved the whole journey. BAGD fulfilled my childhood dream, and a new world of knowledge opened up for me during the process.

Studying for a diploma in garden design.
The course is in depth and you really have to work hard for the distinction! You learn a lot in the process and the teachers are very supportive and quick at responding.

I just finished my Postgraduate diploma and it was a pleasure to be a part of this academy. It came with its challenges but there were always helpful tutors and students in the forum that helped me along. The tutors were very encouraging and supportive all the way through. I learnt a lot from their feedback.
I highly recommend this course to anyone interested in garden design, especially if you prefer the flexibility of online learning. It boosted my confidence and enabled me to work around my family life.

I am truly enjoying my experience at the British Academy of Garden Design. The ability to study from afar, at my own pace and in my own circumstances, is incredibly valuable. The course materials are excellently written clear, engaging, and easy to understand, even for someone whose first language is not English.

My tutor, has been especially helpful, always responding to my questions quickly and providing great guidance. The learning process is both enjoyable and highly interesting, making this a fantastic experience overall.

I was very anxious about starting a new course, but the content and the tutors have really put my mind at ease. Really appreciate the tutors response to my questions as they are not just generic answers but answers that have really help me complete my first assignment. The Certificate course is great. Gives you a broad overview of the history of gardening, how to assess, improve and design a garden, how to chose plants and hard surfaces etc. how to create and present all stages of garden design.
it’s self directed learning with tutor support, they always reply quickly with helpful advice and ideas. It’s a broad timescale of three years to get the 5 assessments done so plenty of time to fit your lifestyle.
Course materials are extensive with good How To guides for all subjects covered.
There’s a student forum (didn’t use it tbh as quite happy on my own) as well if you want to get in touch with other learners.
This course is good for hobbyists or those wanting to get into the industry. I’ve just signed up for the Diploma.

The Garden Design course so is great, lots of study material and practical advice. The mix of written and visual assignments makes it interesting. I am learning loads and loving it.

I haven't long started my course, but so far I've been really impressed with the content and library of resources that they give you to assist with the assignments. I've been assigned a tutor who is always on hand to answer any questions or queries. The feedback from my tutor is always really constructive. I'm loving the course so far.

Informative units, easy to understand assessments and fast grading.

I am studying the Diploma course in Garden Design and so far my experience has been really positive. I had to switch courses at the start but it was handled really well by the student support staff. The tutors have been really helpful - very quick to respond and all feedback has been really useful. The course is really well organized and easy to access via the website and the resources are comprehensive. So far I'm loving it!

I'm really enjoying the course so far - have completed all of the online lessons and still have assignments to complete before qualifying. I originally applied to do the classroom course in Bristol but unfortunately that course didn't run so I did the online lessons. Our tutor, Jorge, was great and made the lessons really personable and interesting, adding in extra info based on his own experience, and responding to requests from us to cover certain aspects of being a garden designer. We set up a whatsApp group which has been very useful and I'm hoping to meet up with some of my online classmates at some point in the future. We have other tutors that mark our assignments and my tutor, Ines, gives really thorough and useful feedback and answers questions really quickly.
I feel the course pushes you to reach a high standard which is good, but I find the referencing for the essays quite time consuming and the word count is quite low, which means less writing, but harder to get in everything you need to say. If I could change anything about the course I would have more lessons on the drawing side, but I know I can always ask my tutor for help if needed. Overall, really pleased I took this course and looking forward to qualifying and have been applying my new skills already, taking on some garden design work and border planning.

I am doing the Diploma in Garden Design, and was taught the lessons over Zoom. I was disappointed that the face-to-face classes weren't running in my area in Manchester at the time. The Zoom classes were detailed and the tutor gave a lot of great insight as is a garden designer himself having also completed the course. The online resources and support from the tutors is fantastic, always quick to respond. It's a thorough course, and I'm very happy to be doing it.
