Funny game, but why it's not free

I saw a couple of Geoguessr streams on Twitch, thought it's pretty fun, and I wanted to try it myself, but turned out it's not free, you have to pay to play, there's no free plan at all, at least they could've added a free plan with N games per day for new players to try it out.

Don't bother

Game used to be free. Paid and free business model was viable but now its only paid, and still not good. Don't bother.

GeoGuessr does not care about you or itself

I was excited to start playing Geoguessr, but now I'm angry. I hate it.

I have been watching Geoguessr content on YouTube for over a year. Today I was bored and decided to try it myself.

I subscribed to the basic pro monthly subscription and canceled it immediately in case I forget to cancel it if i wont like it.

The “5 MIN. EVERY 15 MIN. PLAYING” is terrible and causes anxiety. It is impossible for a human being to put into words how tremendously terrible this is.

I have to admit that I didn't see this feature on the subscription comparison page. I just looked at the pictures at the bottom with descriptions and wasn't interested in public parties/name flair/monthly coins/...

So it was my fault. No. This feature/subscription option should never exist. I can't imagine anyone being happy with it. This is the perfect way to annoy/anger new players and prevent player growth.

But ok, no problem, I can just upgrade the subscription, right? NO WHAT IS THAT:

“You have canceled your subscription and can therefore only upgrade it after the cancellation period has expired...”

This is madness. At first I wanted the annual option, that would have made it 12 times unimaginably more ruinous.

I will not continue playing this game with this anxiety-inducing timer on my screen, and I will not wait for this awfulness a second time so I can continue playing again. I won't wait a month to purchase another plan. I'll probably stop watching Geoguessr content creators because it will remind me of that inexplicably bad experience. I've been angry for an hour now and my life satisfaction has plummeted.

I have experienced many bad products and services, but this takes the crown.

This game lost an enthusiastic new player and the content creators lost a viewer.

The limited play plan should not exist. I can't for the life of me explain why this even exists anywhere ever. I should be able to upgrade and not spend a month/year on it regardless of whether I canceled it. This ruined my weekend.

Besides, Geoguessr does not care. The subreddit will automatically remove this topic and the refund process will be handled by a bot. Those who are in control of Geoguessr are in my opinion incompetent. They don't care about this game and the other reviews also show this.

You pay $2.49/mo but only get to play for 5 mins at a time every 15 minutes

I have supported the developers for years, but not anymore. You PAY, then only get to play for 5 minutes every 15 minutes. This used to be the case for the FREE version. I'm not making this up, $2.49 PER MONTH and you only get to play for 20 minutes in an hour. NOT how the game is advertised, and I honestly believe it should be illegal. There are many good reasons to avoid this game (hence the terrible rating) but this one reason truly takes the cake. The devs should be ashamed of what they've done. Avoid like the plague.

It is not only a terrible game which gets worse and worse by changing its modes. I also got charged 23,88€ without wanting to renew the subscription. On the other hand, I received a good customer support from Mika.

geoguessr really blows - dont give them your money. fun lasts for 10 seconds, and then it sucks and is boring. Worth it while free, not now.

Absolutely terrible

First, it tells you that there's a free version, but as soon as you sign up it tells you that you need the pro subscription to do literally anything.

Geoguesser is fun. Customer service brilliant.

Geoguesser is fun activity, but as I couldn't afford to keep paying for it so had to cancel. I thought that, as with most websites these days, getting a refund would be hassle. It wasn't. It took less than ten minutes to kill my subscription and get a refund. Brilliant.

I wanted to try this out for a bit of fun, having seen the professionals on social media. Can't even try it out without signing up for a recurring subscription, which I won't do.
Judging by the other comments, this is a recent and ill-advised change. It's a bit of fun, not worth paying for

Shocking what it became

(Before reading please be aware that there is a free version of geoguessr. Its not made as good as geoguessr but the raw experience is the same. "OpenGuessr.com")

Once geoguessr was a small indie game with a full free experience, then when devs noticed there is no competition in such games, they decided to reduce your free game on 5 minutes playtime per 20 minutes. Although that was quite annoying for players, they made the new subscription function more tasty due to constant updates and new content (e.g. challenges and quizzes).
Nowadays not even the "free 5 minutes" are free anymore. You have to pay for anything but some official quizzes which are usually not fun.
The terrible descisions made by the developers just buried this game and website..

Company made stupid decision

Imagine losing your entire fanbase just to make a small amount of money. I loved this game but I can’t even play it anymore because some stupid people at the company made it so you have to buy a subscription to play. It was already restricted enough before, but now if you don’t pay, you can’t even play (rhyme not intentional). Stupid decision.

Are You Kidding Me?

Finally I have found that game that all those youtubers are playing. Whats this? There is now a paywall to access any feature in the game I just want to bomb this game with bad reviews now. I wish this was back to free and everyone could finally play again but honestly if this website was made by GeoGuessr developers they'd probably make me pay a pro subscription just to write this review

I just love capitalism

I've been enjoying Geoguessr for a while now. However, recently you've had to pay for it. It makes no sense that a company that has survived for 10 years with free features now has to look itself behind a paywall.

Absurdly costly

I really liked the game and the concept and exploring parts of the world...
But you are now only able to do so when paying 3 $ a month? I do get, that you have to pay bills, but someone playing a few chill rounds for fun has to pay 3 $ to do so??? Not worth it...
