Continuous Problems with Giant Trance E

Since I bought my Giant Trance it has been nothing but trouble. It has spent more time in the bike shop than on the trails. This bike has had never ending electrical issues. Two weeks ago as it has in the past the controller suddenly shut the bike down. I repeatedly had to power it up, but it shut down sometimes after only a few seconds. This I did a dozen times and finally gave up and had to walk my bike out. The conditions were not unusual - moderate to gentle grades, not raining and no dust.

To say I’m frustrated is an understatement. This bike has acted up repeatedly since I bought it. My wife’s Liv purchased at the same time works fine. I no longer have any faith or comfort in using it. This latest experience could have been a lot worse if I had been on a long and remote ride without cell service or proximity to roads.

I contacted the dealer again and they contacted Giant and have so far received no reply. Giant should step up and deal with problem. If it needs entirely new electrical components or better battery connections or contacts then so be it. If that doesn’t work then replace the bike because this one is a lemon inside and out.

So far Giant has shown to be an uncaring corporation and I would not recommend them whatsoever.

Giant Quick E+ became 55 pound…

My Giant Quick E+ became 55 pound anchor recently when it was caught up in a rainstorm. At that time I reach out to both my local bike shop and Giant. The local bike shop had my bike for over a month as they tried troubleshooting. They made numerous attempts to contact Giant as well as I sent in service request emails. My email went answered with give us the name of Giant reseller and we will contact them directly. This never happened and I ended up having to put in a claim with my Bike insurance company to total out my 3 year old e-bike. I am very disappointed in how Giant handled this and will never buy another Giant bicycle again.

I purchased an FX YUKNON in 08 from a mom and pop bike shop in Victorville Ca, "Victorville Cycles" which, by the way, can no longer afford to be a Giant dealer because Giant requires the business to keep a certain amount of inventory on hand before Giant will even bother doing business with your company. I was riding up a grade when l lost control, the lower swing arm completely SNAPED AT THE WIELD! I wish i could post pictures but I CAN'T! Completely snaped! After months of going back and forth with Giant, they have determined that becuse they no longer make that frame Giant will give me $140 for my troubles! The bike shop I took it to, "Competitive Edge Cyclery" in Rancho Cucamonga, an authorized dealer, were very helpful and could not belive what they were doing! GIANT DOES NOT BACK THEIR LIFE TIME WARRANTY! Should of went with a Huffy....

2021 Giant Escape 2 Bexley Bikes

I bought a Giant Escape 2 City Disc in January 2021 from a Giant dealer in Bexleyheath, UK. This was during the Great Bicycle Drought in the UK, when for about a year it was almost impossible to get a new bike due to COVID-19 manufacturing and shipping disruption. Giant were the only manufacturer who had any hybrid bicycles in my price range. It cost a little under £700.

The bike has a manufacturing flaw and two design flaws. The manufacturing flaw is that the paint chips off incredibly easily, after 12 months there were already a ton of paint chips everywhere, I've never seen anything like it. It's not going to rust so I don't mind that much but it's kind of bad. The manufacturing flaws are that it came fitted with friction handlebar grips that rotate during riding because of the non-smooth nature of the matt finish on the handlebar. I fixed this by buying aftermarket lock-on grips but that's a ridiculous design flaw. And it is very easy to overtorque the seat post clamp because you have steel bolts in an aluminium clamp, I’ve had to replace the part because I made this mistake. But what kind of person who is buying a fairly average commuter bicycle owns a torque wrench that can measure down to 4 Nm? I own two torque wrenches and neither of them go down that low. I think the clamp should also be steel, it’s tiny and would add almost no weight, but I’m new to cycle commuting and there might be other reasons this isn’t possible.

Other components are of varying quality. The rear freehub only lasted a year before it became so sticky I needed a new wheel - it's not worth it to service it. I tried! And the bottom bracket only lasted 3,000 miles before it started creaking so loudly and consistently that I had to have it replaced. The Kenda tyres it came with were shocking, from new they were completely slick in the centre, so grip could let you down in the wet winter months, and I had three punctures on the rear wheel (removing the sharp object during each repair) before I fitted Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres and I’ve haven’t had a puncture since. The mudguards it came with don’t actually prevent that much water splashing you, this is another problem I had to solve myself with an upgrade.

Apart from that, the bike is quite good. The rack it came with is good, the shifters are good, the seat is good, the front wheel is good. The frame and forks are light and seem strong. The rest of the drivetrain seems great. I’ve had no problems with bearings anywhere else. The standard pedals aren’t great but everyone seems to have a different opinion about pedals so I don’t mind about that. The brakes are VERY GOOD! Calipers, fluid reservoirs, levers, everything. I wore through the pads in 12 months which seems kind of fast but I don’t mind that and the feel and power are amazing.

After a year and a half, it’s becoming a fairly good bicycle and I’ve come to love it. But I have had to spend a lot of time and money getting it to this stage. It’s described as a ‘hybrid commuter’ but it kind wasn’t good enough to be that straight out of the box and the finish is terrible!

The Giant dealer in Bexleyheath (Bexley Bikes) were often OK, but often a lot worse. When I bought the bike, they didn’t tell me that they expected me to bring it back for a checkover after a few weeks. So I just kept riding it for probably two months. And then a pedal fell off, at quite a busy junction during rush hour. The dealer is a five-mile cycle from my house, but I fixed the pedal as best as I could and brought it back to them. The subsequent conversation was so poorly communicated and sullen (they really weren't sure it would be possible to fix it, and it seemed like there would be a charge for it) that I asked for the bike back, before they had fixed it, so I could take it to my local bike shop instead. At that point, they did fix the pedal and they fixed it well. I think they probably would have replaced any parts under warranty, but the misunderstanding was down to poor communication, the conversation should have started, 'We will fix this under warranty because the bike is two months old'. There was never an apology for not telling me to bring the bike in for a checkover, and there was never an offer to do the checkover 'better late than never'. There were a couple of other occasions when I took it there to buy something and that was fine, but eventually they completely screwed up ‘fixing’ the rear freehub by making it a lot worse, for which they had the gall to charge a fee. So I gave up on them as a lost cause.

Now me and bike are doing fine. But surely, surely, you can do better than this for the same money. I didn’t have a choice at the time, it was Giant or the bus. But I hear only good things about Trek and Specialised and I wouldn't buy another Giant. And Giant need to find another store to be their dealer in South East London. Or, maybe they're a good match.

Rubbish bikes, terrible customer service

Bought a brand new Giant bike online and waited 10 days to pick up in the store. Broke down 2km out of the store. The staff made no effort to apologise, acknowledge the frustration and time wasted, and made no offer to make things right after all that. Rubbish bikes, terrible customer service. Do yourself a favour and avoid!

I bought the CR1 carbon and I love it

I bought the CR1 carbon and I love it. Great product. Super light with the dura-ace shifters and carbon seat post. Only issue was the website and follow-up customer service. When you're dropping $3k on a bike you want support. Anyway, would definately buy again but probably from a smaller dealer.

Content AR3 -Rubbish product and service

Content AR3 - expensive mistake!
Rubbish product and service. Purchased a Contend AR from the Burnley dealership - build quality and setup was terrible and apparently rushed. Ongoing problems required a check by an independent mechanic who (after fixing the initial build issues) noted two components to have been damages during shipping/build - meaning that the gears would never work correctly (not a set up or new bike issue as indicated to me). The dealership has gone out of their way to avoid any communications and have a wide range of excuses to avoid warranty work. Giant UK take a clever Catch 22 approach in that any issues can only be taken up with the dealership.
Now taking offers for a 7 month old "spares or repair" Giant Content !

Bought an e bike fathom e+3

Bought an e bike fathom e+3, have done 300 miles in a year and the chain set has worn down so much the chain jumps and will not engage. Giant have said it is my fault as I have caused excessive wear. Total rubbish, the chain set is obviously incapable of dealing with the e-bike power

Chains immediately RUSTED out!! Disgusted!!

I purchased a mens Giant bike and as well as a LIV bike for my wife. We paid $1720 for each of them along with some accessories. I am absolutely amazed by how quickly the chains on both of these bicylces RUSTED beyond belief by simply having them covered up on a bike rack on the back of my RV class B motorhome. We simply drove from Indiana to Florida and back without riding them to discover the chains and pedal spokes completely rusted out. Needless to say I am disgusted with my purchase and am completly shocked and dissatisfied with my purchase.

Giant liv avail 2 advanced

Purchased a Liv avail advanced 2 at the back end of 2020, first had a squeak on the front wheel in the first few weeks ( 2 other friends with same bike had the same problem). identified by a bike technician that a plastic bush had been used on the wheel axle which would usually be alloy ! Hence the noise .

Contacted Giant (told to contact dealer) waste of time, now Rachet gone in the freehub body! Dealer told me out of warranty would be charged despite bike hardly used this last year!! Not impressed by the customer service or lack of it. Strongly believe sub standard parts been used in the build of this bike. One very disappointed customer !!

Amazed they stay in business as their ability to distribute new bikes in Canada is abysmal. Yes we all understand the supply chain issues but a 14 yr old could devise a better distribution model than Giant current use.

Lie & take your money

Was advised by a member of staff to buy a M frame even tho I said I ride a L. He said it was different on a mountain bike to road. Spent 2.5k on it. Rode it once, was too small so returned bike for a larger one. Giant had the bike a week and only refunded under 2k back, said the bike was heavily used and damaged. It most certainly wasn’t. £500 for a test run advised by a member of staff. Absolute rip off. I was going to exchange the bike but I will take my money elsewhere in future. Avoid at all costs!
