Great service, less of a pain than Gmail and extra email addresses so that newsletters and other interests can be signed up for safe in the knowledge that if these are shared with other companies, the extra addresses can be removed..

Great alternative to Google. They have cloud storage (like Google Drive), automatic back-up of photos, contacts, and the like from your phone, and a streamlined, simple app. I know it's hard because of Google, but give it a try! You'll like it.

Like others reviewers below, GMX have suddenly blocked my account for no apparent reason.

Following a quick e-mail exchange, my account is back up and running.

So don't loose heart - just contact them!

Disgraceful company. Like many negative reviews popping up for this company, they have blocked my account for absolutely no reason, with no accountability and no interest in addressing whatever they think the issue is. I can't imagine it's anything I've done -- I have very few emails and they're notably uninteresting!

GMX have just blocked my email for absolutely no reason. When I queried them, they said I would get a response later from another department. The other department just said the "abuse department" has decided to block my email, but they did not say anything about the reasons. The "abuse department" has not said anything even days later.
At this point, I have no intention to continue using their service, but it would have been nice to get access, so that I can at least change my email address for all online services that I use, as some of them sends a verification email to the old address (which of course I cannot access any more).
So shortly, even though I only used my email to keep contact with companies (e.g. service providers, accountant, etc.), they have blocked my email without any warning and never even explained why. I would never suggest anyone using their services!

GMX have just blocked my wife's email account, with a similar high-handedness to the experiences of many other reviewers here recently. Totally disgraceful unaccountable behaviour. No appeals procedure. No idea who might have contacted her in the last few days, we'll never know. PLEASE AVOID THIS COMPANY.

Warning - they can block your account with no warning, they do not reply to your account support reviews, just say abuse of account. i've never abused my account and yet they just respond with security say it won't be unlocked and that is it, no reason and won't let you back in. Disgusting behaviour... i can name all emails in my account and they do not respond do not use this email account. i've used it for years and just got blocked for no reason and even when i've emailed my number to call, the emails that are geniune and asked for access to emails i need i've been ignored. Customer service is crap and security is not open to communication. Makes me feel like they are stealing data, no option to prove identity, treated like crap. Sent numerous emails asking for a call or explanation and nothing apart from security won't unlock your account. Ridiculous behaviour and will never use them again. had accounts for years and thought they were great, gutted to lose my important emails for no reason.

As per the other people who have been blocked from their account with no explanation other than 'abuse' - l have no idea what they are talking about, there appears to be zero route in to appeal/investigate what has happened; genuinely disgusted that they can lock me out of and potentially retain 10 years worth of email that I imported. Luckily I have a back up. I am going to investigate how to report them, this cannot be right. DO NOT USE GMX. UPDATE: 2 days letter access was given, with zero explanation or apology. Utterly baffled. Deleted everything and moved to mail.uk on subscription for £12 a year. At least it's safe.

Same issues as the reviewer below. Two days ago GMX blocked my account. I was in the middle of writing an email and was chucked out of the system and when I tried to log back in, I was told there had been a security breach. I contacted them via the website, assuming that they would unblock straight away but was told the account would remain blocked. And today they've said that they forwarded my account details to the security team and my account will remain blocked because of abuse. What abuse???!!! I asked if my account has been hacked as that's the only explanation but this is a nightmare as I've lost ALL of my emails with no explanation at all and it seems no help to get it resolved either. I wish I'd never joined GMX. Don't make the same mistake!

At first I thought GMX was excellent. But yesterday it completely blocked my account. As the web site suggested , I contacted them and 12 hours later had a reply saying the account would remain blocked. No explanation at all. I have been caused massive inconvenience with no sign of it ending. A web searched found other people with similar problems over some years. I have been using email for many years and no other supplier behaves like this. DO NOT TOUCH GMX

I like gmx because it is simple to use, I have less spam than with other providers, it is also less annoying regarding access from different equipments.

2 "negative" points (for me - professional use) : 1. I cannot insert an image in my signature / 2. sometimes, other providers reject my emails automatically and for a professional use, it is a problem.

Very poor service, terrible customer service. Allowed my account to be hacked then none responsive to get this sorted and resolved. No telephone contact number, bot email responses. Utterly terrible. Avoid at all costs.

Trying to give a little bit more privacy and balance out the power of you know who (beging with a G.). However:

- Claim to have strong privacy but has no proper feedback system. Force me to write this review that made me sign on additonal service that I don't really need, which the service by default prefer two of the big questionable privacy concern companies...

- No 2FA, ask for mobile number for recovery, but no 2FA by SMS or at least TOTP. That is sub-par standard for today.

- Full screen send-delay instead of a pop-up. So, as a emergency cancel of mail sending, instead of continue to work, you have to stare at a full screen delay message.

- Cannot send e-mail via other account that using Mail Collector (which still incorrectly show's such option in its online manual), which pretty much render the mail collector function 50% useless, as this is possible via pretty much all the bigger competitor.

- Awakard spam filter / message rules with complex guideline. Anything that created as a mail rule automaticaly mark as clean (not spam), which is rather limited.

That just the essentials, while service is functional, but is feeling outdated.

GMX has silently implemented 2FA with TOTP and App password, great! However, it cannot save session to remember device without need of require TOTP 2FA all the time, despite it already have a 'Manage Session' option.

Also, I sincerly hope GMX would bring business model to further develop the function and size of it Cloud Storage.

Nice User Interface, easy to use, and seems like a good alternative to Gmail.

I have used GMX for many years. I have recommended GMX to family and friends and they are as happy with it as I am. I will continue to recommend GMX. 5 stars all the way

This company is very helpful in the services they provide. I have their hosting through IONOS and I was looking for an alternative to the big tech email services like Yahoo and Google. I found GMX and when I saw that it was affiliated with my hosting company I knew it would be a good choice. They have an app that you can use on your phone so you don't miss an email. They offer so much more than just basic mail too. Cloud storage and encryption. It's a great choice if you're like me and want a great alternative to big tech tracking you. Or if ya' just want a great email provider.

I have to say that I love GMX email for a number of reasons. Firstly, the ability to have several email addresses under the main address. Very handy for signing up to things and deleting if you get overwhelmed with emails and spam. They are not as annoying as Google's constant emails if you add an address to a new computer, use an email client rather than log in on-line and a host of other ways they are just better.

The only down side is that if sending to Hotmail addresses, mail will often be dumped in spam, so there is a need to pre-warn people that this may happen. Add an Encrypted password option to get 5 stars.

Simple to use and crisp set up.

I have had my account with GMX for a number of years, but their software never worked easily and without the occasional hitch. I do not understand their architecture for their web based email system but it carries an awful lot of adverts which take a long time to load. I had given them feedback every now and then, and thought this was ok to do. However after the last time when I gave them my honest feedback I found myself suddenly cut off, as other people here report as well. I lost all my emails, contacts, archives etc. without any possibility of negotiation or recourse. I understand that within Germany the same company will have to give a month's notice if they want to do that.
