Horrible experience – absolute extortion, unsafe cars, and reckless behavior! Stay away!
We were completely dissatisfied with this car rental company and strongly warn everyone to avoid them at all costs.
The first car they offered us was extremely dirty and had broken seatbelts, so we immediately rejected it.
The second car we received was a Skoda Fabia. From the beginning, it had a very high clutch bite point, making it nearly impossible to pull away smoothly. We even had to ask the staff to show us how to start moving. They insisted the car was perfectly fine, claiming we just had to release the clutch almost all the way up. However, this "mechanically sound" car lasted only two days. After driving just 160 km, the clutch completely failed, leaving us stranded on the side of the road.
The breakdown revealed the absolute lack of responsibility and humanity of this company. They sent a tow truck but informed us it could only transport one person. There were three of us traveling, including a 14-year-old child! The tow truck driver callously took the car with only one passenger, leaving the other two of us stranded on the roadside, 50 km away from the rental office. Since the agency provided absolutely no contact numbers for local taxis or transfers, we were forced to hitchhike in the middle of nowhere. Fortunately, a kind Romanian family pulled over and drove us the 50 km back to the agency. Abandoning your own customers with a child on the highway is utterly unacceptable and dangerous.
When we arrived at the office to resolve the situation, the agency became extremely unpleasant and aggressive. They refused to listen to any arguments and openly blackmailed us, demanding €1,100 on the spot. The car was never inspected by an independent mechanic, and they simply made up various fees out of thin air. They refused to provide a replacement car or terminate our contract until we paid them. Under immense psychological pressure, we eventually paid the amount just to escape the situation.
To make matters worse, the third car they gave us—another Skoda Fabia—was also in terrible condition. The brakes were squeaking loudly from the very start. When we pointed this out, their shocking response was that if the brakes failed completely, they would accept it and not charge us for them. We were forced to drive this third car in constant fear, worrying about our safety and what would break down next.
This company knowingly rents out dangerous, poorly maintained vehicles and uses aggressive blackmail tactics to extort money from tourists for pre-existing mechanical failures. Avoid them at all costs!

This company is a scam and will try to rip you off in any way. If you have been scammed in any way, do this:
1. Contact your bank and file a complaint against the amount charged and submit all the evidence you have... photo, video, voice etc.
2. Contact the reseller or comparator if you ordered through them and inform them that you have been scammed, there is a chance they will refund your insurance etc.
3. Be sure to contact the ESC (European Consumer Centre), they will help you forward your case to the Greek Trade Inspectorate.
I wish you much success in resolving your dispute with this fraudulent company.

THE WORST CAR RENTAL COMPANY – UNPROFESSIONAL AND FRAUDULENT PRACTICES
Absolutely the worst car rental experience we have ever had. The car we received was dirty, already damaged, and even the keys were not working properly from the beginning.
When we returned the car, we were accused of causing damage that already existed before we rented it. We showed them video evidence proving that this damage was already present when the car was handed to us, but they refused to accept it and still charged us €430.
The way the situation was handled was extremely unprofessional, aggressive and disrespectful. After searching online, we found many other customers reporting very similar experiences involving pre-existing damage and subsequent charges.
Based on our experience, we consider these to be fraudulent practices.
AVOID GREEN MOTION THESSALONIKI AIRPORT. If you rent from them, record every part of the car before driving away and do not rely on their condition report.

This company is a rip off! I booked it through booking.com and they charged us 700£ for a scratch that I pointed out before we even took the car off the parking lot! They knew we had full protection insurance and am sure they are just claiming charging! They are rude! We returned it 1/2 hour late, they charged us another full day! Avoid this place at all costs!!! Find another place to rent!! And when we suggested that the scratch they were charging for was pre-existing the person threatened to charge us for more pre-existing scratches on the vehicle!

The car rental experience with Green Motion in Athens was disappointing. The gas tank was empty instead of full, and the car was in much poorer condition than shown in the photos. We missed the return deadline by only a few minutes and returned the car first thing the next morning when the office opened, yet we were charged for an additional full day. Overall, it was a very poor experience.

21.08.26 Nothing is organised, completely unprofessional and rude employees, one person is working for an entire bus full of families. Telling us a car they’ve provided us doesn’t exist absolutely ridiculous been waiting over 2 hours, if you are on schedule for a flight, you will miss it plain and simple.

Booked a Fiat 500 / small vehicle for our 16day break around Greece , on arrival to the office using there shuttle bus (this is away from the airport 15mins), was served by a really rude man , we asked a few questions but was completley ignored , Did the paperwork and was asked for an £700 deposit which they took from my credit card (Be AWARE THIS ACTUALLY COMES OFF YOUR CARD !!!!) So not like any of the big name car hire companies that hold the payment they actually take it ! He then goes to bring the car around and im presented with a 11 year old Nissan Micra with damage on every panel ! I asked if this could be changed for what i had ordered and he said No ! Paperwork is done this is it , after a 5 min discussion , and me taking 18 photos and a full video of this fine machine we went ! On returning the car the same man , whos mood hadnt improved checked us in and checked the car with me and partner and proceeded to tell us we had damaged the rear bumper ! Baring in mind this car has had damage on every panel ! After me wiping the dirt off that he said was a scratch he finally agreed to refund the deposit , only after a heated discussion with my wife whos greek and was taking non of the nonsense any longer ! Whilst waiting 20 mins for the shuttle bus to take us to the airport an other 4 people dropped there cars back , and whilst watching the rear bumper damage trick was done on every car ! We had a lucky escape and got our money back , Do not be lured into the cheap rates advertised ! You do not get the car you requested never again check the reviews 1st !

Terrible wait times and rude staff.
For a small scratch they added repair charges of over €1,000 when the car came badly scratched already. I wouldn’t have minded a small charge but that is absolutely excessive!

This was the last time we ever booked with a company like this. We had reserved a car to pick up at Preveza Airport for seven days. When we arrived, we discovered that our reservation was not showing up in their system, even though we had paid the full amount online.
The employee at the desk informed us that, because we had made the reservation through a third-party online broker, he could not see any booking in their system and that there were no cars available. I should also mention that my wife was travelling alone with our two children, aged 2 and 5, but this was not taken into consideration at all.
After numerous phone calls to their headquarters, nobody was able to answer our questions. After waiting for two hours at the airport office in the August heat, my wife decided to take a taxi to the hotel. The employee assured her that he would look into the matter and that the car would be delivered to her the following day.
Unfortunately, to our great surprise, after we had sent an email to the head office while still at the airport desk, we received a response claiming that the reason we did not collect the car was because we did not have a credit card.
Obviously, the company had not properly informed the broker through which we made the booking about the availability of the vehicle and was simply looking for an excuse.
In the end, we had to rent another car at the last minute from a different company, at a much higher cost, in order to continue our holiday. We lost approximately €850 in total.
We never received any meaningful response from Green Motion. Their customer service and overall handling of the situation were extremely disappointing.

If i could give MINUS 5 stars I would!! Worst rental company I have ever encountered in my life! I rented from Green Motion at Thessaloniki Airport, and what happened at the counter was a straight-up SCAM. I arrived with a fully paid booking and insurance I'd already bought through Booking.com. At the desk, my AMEX credit card and my partner's valid Visa credit card were both refused, my AMEX over a policy technicality (they do not accept Amex cards, fair enough), the other because she wasn't the "main driver." I asked to just switch the main driver to her or to simply let us use her Visa credit card to pay, which was the type of card they accepted. They just refused, quoting their terms of service. How convenient, since the only way out they offered me was to pay €659.58 for their own overpriced insurance product on top of the rental cost I'd already covered. The second I paid it, my debit card, the one that was supposedly unusable for the deposit just minutes earlier, was suddenly fine for paying the deposit I had to pay on top of the Insurance they forced on me. That's clearly a manufactured situation designed to extract an extra €659 out of a customer who has no leverage to say no because they're standing at a foreign airport counter about to lose a rental they already paid for.
When I complained, Green Motion actually admitted it in writing, telling me "the vehicle could not be released under the standard rental conditions... the available solution was therefore to purchase additional coverage." That's them confirming, in their own words, that they use payment technicalities to force people into buying insurance they don't need. How does purchasing an additional, unrelated and unneeded product suddenly make my Visa debit card acceptable? Just because something is in your "terms of service" doesn't make it fair or legal. Clear predatory sales tactic and arbitrary gimmick just to extract more money from unsuspecting tourists.
Reading through the reviews here now, I see I'm nowhere near the first person this has happened to. Same story over and over: fake payment obstacles, pressure-sold insurance, and people getting charged for damage that was already on the car when they picked it up. Which ironically they also tried to pull when I returned the car, pointing at damage they claimed wasn't there when they gave me the car. How convenient. Luckily I had extensive video proof of the car's condition when it was given to me, so they had no leg to stand on. Absolute cheeky scammers. This isn't bad luck or one rogue employee. This is how they operate, systematically, to defraud and scam people. Absolutely disgusting behaviour.
GREEN MOTION, save yourself the little copy-and-paste message telling me to file a complaint and that you'll investigate. I already did, and you just told me you won't send the money back. Your business operation is plain fraud, and you should be ashamed.
Avoid this company completely, book with literally anyone else. Mark my words, THEY WILL TRY TO SCAM YOU!

There are quite a lot of negative reviews for Green Motion but my experience was all good. A week hire from Preveza airport in Greece. Car was completely clean, new, to spec and thoroughly checked over with me prior to driving off.
€802 seemed high for credit card damage deposit (only a Scoda Fabia!) but the actual hire cost was fine.
Easy check back in & signed off no problem.
5 minute walk from the terminal would have been good to know as it’s not with the rest of the main hire companies with desks in the actual terminal.
I’d definitely use again.

Title: ⚠️ SCAM WARNING: 257€ extorted for a microscopic scratch! Avoid Green Motion Preveza!Avoid this rental company at Preveza Airport. Upon returning the car, the staff used predatory practices to extort €257.94 for a microscopic, superficial surface scratch on the mirror cap (see attached photo). They forced me to pay immediately on the POS under coercion, leveraging the fact that I was about to lose my flight. The most scandalous part? The actual technical repair cost calculated by the software was around €123+VAT, but they arbitrarily added €50.00 for "Claim Costs" and €55.00 for "Vehicle Immobilisation Costs". A tiny aesthetic scratch does NOT require an office stop or vehicle immobilisation, and the car was immediately rented to the next customer. This is pure theft and an illegal commercial practice.I am currently disputing the charge through my bank (Chargeback) and I have reported Green Motion Preveza to Booking.com.Do yourself a favor, book with a serious company and avoid this nightmareATTENZIONE TRAPPOLA: 257€ estorti per un graffio microscopico! Evitate Green Motion Preveza!
“UPDATE: Green Motion International customer care contacted me just to wash their hands of the issue. They claimed the charge is valid because of the SilverDAT system, completely ignoring the fact that the local station added €105.00 of fake administrative and vehicle immobilisation fees for a 1cm scratch that never stopped the car. Absolute lack of transparency. The dispute is now officially in the hands of my bank for a formal Chargeback. Avoid this company!”

AVOID!AVOID!AVOID!
Horrific experience, unsafe vehicle, 436€ extortion, and absolute abuse – Avoid Green Motion Thessaloniki! Our nightmare with Green Motion started the moment we landed on July 28th. We arrived at Thessaloniki airport, expecting the shuttle bus at parking lot P5, but no one was there. After calling, a female employee said someone would come but refused to give a timeframe. They then ignored all subsequent calls. We were left stranded for nearly an hour. The shuttle driver was the only polite and professional employee here; he was genuinely embarrassed and apologized. At the office, our car was not ready—the second red flag. We inspected the car in detail and recorded a video. However, it never crossed our minds that an agency could commit such gross negligence as to issue a vehicle completely stripped of basic, legally mandatory safety items. The Citroen C3 had no emergency kit (no warning triangle, no fire extinguisher, no first-aid kit) AND NO SPARE TYRE or replacement tools. The real danger manifested on Saturday, August 8th. While driving on a regional road, we heard a strange noise and realized the front right tyre was completely flat. We opened the trunk to find the spare tyre, only to discover there was none. We immediately called the agency. Without even asking if we were safe, the employee casually told us to call back in 10 minutes. We were lucky not to be on a high-speed highway; being stranded for 10 minutes without a warning triangle to alert oncoming traffic is an unspeakably high safety risk. When we called back, the agent confirmed there was no spare tyre but instructed us to use foam repair kit and drive to a tyre shop. Since it was Saturday evening and we were 85 km away from Volos—the nearest city with a 24/7 shop—we had to drive for 2 hours through treacherous mountain roads on Sunday morning on a tyre held together purely by temporary foam. When we reached the tyre shop in Volos, we called Green Motion again because their contract requires explicit authorization to replace a tyre. The same female employee answered. The moment she heard the issue, she claimed she could not hear us due to a bad line, even though the line was perfectly clear, and abruptly hung up. Every single call by us was then ignored. Left with no choice and facing a severe breach of contract if we replaced the tyre without permission, the mechanic performed a patch repair. He explained the tyre popped due to a stone impact, which we weren't aware of. Crucially, after repairing the tyre, the mechanic then called the branch himself and they answered him instantly! He explained the level of repair and asked if an invoice listing the details should be issued. Shockingly, the agency refused standard invoice and asked if he could send email instead (private gmail account) —an unheard-of, highly suspicious procedure. After the repair, we called the branch again. The same female employee answered but refused to talk, rudely demanding we send a WhatsApp message instead, which we did. The mechanic strictly warned us that the tyre was unsafe for speeds over 90 km/h. On Monday, August 10th, we had to drive for 5.5 hours under immense stress on this compromised tyre to reach the Thessaloniki branch. Our flight was at 12:15, so we started at 3:45 AM. Upon arrival, the car was inspected by one of staff, rental agent, and a third employee whose role was never explained. The agent demanded we explain the damage, and we showed them images, messages and missed calls. He then insisted that we pay 436 Euro for repair, claiming it was an official DEKRA Germany price for a Citroen C3, which absurdly included 90 Euros for immobilisation fee. We had no choice but to sign and pay this extortionate amount since the agency still did not release our deposit, and departure time for our flight was rapidly approaching.
When we tried to find out who the manager was to report their complete failure of communication, poor treatment, lack of advice/information regarding recovery, the agent flatly refused to give his manager's name. After we protested, he just pointed at the third employee who had appeared earlier, still refusing to say his name. When we insisted on our right as customers to know, he only gave a first name, refusing the last name, and roughly shoved a company letterhead with generic contact info at us. We tried to speak to this manager to explain that their lack of communication and missing safety gear actively endangered our lives. It was impossible; he was incredibly rude, dismissive, and condescending. The only response we got was a cold statement that he would check the claim that no one answered our calls. Green Motion SKG: no safety kit, ignored emergency, extorted 436€. They endangered our lives. Avoid at all cost! Rate: Below ZERO

Extremely poor service. Got a smaller car than I asked for. Very cumbersome pick up process. Tried to tell me he couldn’t take my credit card so I would have to pay 400€ more at the desk. No flexibility in dates. Saw several people cancelling their booking when they saw the bad service at pick up and went for another company

Car hire in Samos, in June 2026. Pickup, rental and dropoff was flawless. Staff very curteous and professionel. However, the car excess cover was CHARGED to my credit card, rather than reservced which is the normal procedure. Only after several phone calls, the 1488 Euro were returned to my card over a month later. But due to the difference in incoming and outgoing exchange rate, that procedure left me EUR 60 out of pocket. The company will not accept responsibility and refer to their "terms and conditions for selected car groups".
EDIT 2026-08-14: In reply to the below, I already filed a complaint with ID #1307177.
The final comment from "Tiruki" was: "There will be no refund forthcoming."

Reply from Green Motion Greece
They handed over the car with dashboard alerts indicating it needed an oil change, tire checks, etc. Upon return, they charged us over €550 for a minor scratch, citing bogus charges. They were rude and spoke incomprehensible English. Since they have your credit card details and lack any ethics, you're out of luck.
