Poor customer service & communication

Poor customer service & communication. Almost every single customer we referred to apply for financing through them was denied, and I reached out to get information and to help our customers with absolutely no responses whatsoever. But as soon as I emailed our rep to cancel, they had our account cancelled in less than 30 mins. Guess my questions for actual customer use didn't matter, but my cancellation did? Not a company I'd recommend to any companies considering home services financing.

Be aware that this company is involved…

Be aware that this company is involved in scams and works with contractors who are also scammers. I spent almost $10,000 on a new driveway, but now I don't have the money or a proper driveway. The contractor's work was of the lowest quality. My driveway is cracking and rusting, making it look like it's 40 years old. It's a total loss. Thank you Greensky

I'm only giving one star because it's…

I'm only giving one star because it's the minimum that can be given. They take advantage of older people. They are charging me late charges though I haven't even had it for 30 days, they don't tell you when the payment is due and they don't send a contract. They are hard to get in touch with wouldn't recommend ever ever.

One star is being generous

I am only giving one star because it is the minimum that can be given. I wouldn't even go that high. This company is basically a legal loan shark. They will give you a decent rate however what they wont tell you is that out of your payment 90% of it will go to fees. You will end up paying two or three times what you borrow. Stay as far away from this company as you can.

I want to point out something important…

I want to point out something important because a lot of people don’t realize the difference between true 0% interest and deferred interest.

This GreenSky financing through Hiller was true 0% promotional interest — not the kind where they go back and charge interest on the original balance if you don’t pay it off completely. I didn’t pay the full balance off during the promo, but I paid it down significantly. When the promo ended, interest only applied to the remaining balance, not the original amount.

Everything worked exactly as explained. Payments posted correctly, no surprise charges, and no retroactive interest. If you understand the terms and use it responsibly, this is a very fair and transparent financing option.

1 Star — Predatory, Misleading, and Absolutely Unacceptable

1 Star — Predatory, Misleading, and Absolutely Unacceptable

My father — a senior citizen — became the victim of what feels like a predatory and deceptive financing trap involving GreenSky. He never knowingly signed up for a GreenSky loan. A Terminix representative took his bank card under the claim that he was setting up automatic payments directly to Terminix. Instead, my father was secretly enrolled in a GreenSky loan he had no knowledge of and did not consent to.

My father only learned about GreenSky after letters started coming weeks later, claiming he owed payments. At that point, he felt he had no choice but to pay, because the account was created without his knowledge and he didn’t want to risk damage to his credit.

For over a year, GreenSky drafted money out of his bank account — and in many months they drafted twice:

the regular automatic payment, AND

a late fee, even though he never even knew he was in a loan program to begin with.

To finally escape this nightmare, on September 8th, my father paid $2,658.58 in a single lump sum just to be done with GreenSky — after already paying monthly for a full year. The day before, on September 7th, the regular automatic draft of $187 came out as well.

Then, on October 10th, GreenSky emailed my father saying that fees were being waived and he would receive a refund check due to a credit balance. We took that as confirmation that the nightmare was finally over.

But no — it continued.

On November 14th, GreenSky emailed again, claiming my father’s account was late, as if none of the adjustments, payments, or their own written promises meant anything.

Not only was my father signed up for a loan without his knowledge, he was then charged, penalized, double-drafted, and pressured into paying off a loan he never agreed to — only to be told later he had a credit and a refund coming, and then immediately told his account was “late” again.

This is beyond unacceptable and feels intentionally designed to confuse and pressure older customers who trust service companies inside their homes.

If this is how GreenSky operates — allowing contractors to sign unsuspecting seniors up for loans behind their backs, taking payments for over a year, drafting late fees on top of automatic payments, and still sending “late” notices after admitting a refund is owed — then consumers should stay far, FAR away.

I would strongly warn anyone, especially senior citizens, to avoid any contractor that uses GreenSky financing. Based on our experience, it feels predatory, misleading, and financially damaging.

We would never recommend GreenSky to anyone.

I wouldn’t recommend them to my worst…

I wouldn’t recommend them to my worst enemy.
Most of their customers are unhappy with their experience with GreenSky (1.7 stars on Yelp, 1.5 stars on TrustPilot, 2.1 stars on CreditKarma, 1.1 stars on the BBB ) Their employees are burnt out and stressed out. (3.2 stars on Glassdoor with the lowest reviews coming from customer facing roles). Even the merchant have left quite a few negative reviews.

Their loyalty is to the money.

(1) App Process & Merchants

Preying on the elderly
Merchants will have older customers fill out loan applications w/out fully explaining that they are submitting a hard inquiry credit application.

Underprepared
Merchants will refer potential customers to GreenSky w/out providing them the required information needed to start an application, leading to phone tag or extended application time.

Misinformation
It is apparent that the salesmen that are pitching these GreenSky loan are either not doing their training (ex. not being prepared with the required information for the verification & application process) or are intentionally misrepresenting the loan terms when explaining them to the customer. (Ex. Advising the potential customer that they have a “no interest, no payment” loan for the first 12 months. Failing to explain that the customer would need to pay back the loan in full within those 12 months in order to avoid paying interest as 24.99%)

Unethical Practices
Allowing a spouse or family members to submit applications on behalf someone else.
Stating they can not leave the customer’s home until they receive a payment from GreenSky
Insisting that customers activate their GreenSky account’s before they can receive their copies of their loan documents.
Charging the customer’s account before the customer can receive their copies of their loan documents.

———————————————————————
(2) Customer Service

Customers Not Receiving Statements
During the application process, customers are sometimes automatically placed on paperless billing leading to missed statements and missed payment.

Limited Service for Non English Speaking Customers
If you don’t speak English, you are SOL. There are a limited amount of bilingual Spanish agents & the only translation services offered are Spanish.

Automated System
The automatic system is overly complicated… that is one of the most frequent complaints. It’s just as big of a pain for the agents.

Communication
* Statements are confusing. Redundant information, nonsensical format
* Payment confirmation email should be sent after funds are pulled from the bank (which can be 3-5 business days after payment is submitted)
* Merchants are providing different information than agents

This is the worst credit company I have…

This is the worst credit company I have ever had to interact with. Andersen Windows had my father take out a loan through Green Sky for window replacements. My father passed away and my brother and myself are trying to settle the account. We just need a payoff amount, loan number and payoff address. I ve wasted hours on the phone with them while I jump through hoops with the first person who says they will transfer me to an account specialist, only to get to an account specialist who won’t help. We have provided them with all the required documents to attend to the account on our fathers behalf but still get the same run around getting passed from person to person ever 15 minutes. I am very sure they are playing a stall game so we miss the payoff deadline. We are getting a lawyer involved.

GreenSky took out an unathrize payment amount.

On June 28,2025 I used the automated system to pay bill 331.87. On July 1,2025 They took the amount of 666.07. I know that I did not agree to pay that amount of 666.07. On today July 2th when I called in to ask if we could fix it because I know what I wanted to pay 331.87, the representee was not helpful, She had me on hold for a long which she did apologize for but then the phone hung up and she did not call back and I know she have my number because of the verification of the caller which she done at the beginning of the call. I would like to get the other half of my money back.

GreenSky LLC handled the financing for 3DayBlinds

GreenSky LLC handled the financing for multiple 3DayBlinds purchases from 9/2024. 3DayBlinds was extremely difficult to deal with and delivered poor merchandise. Two huge orders were returned. The first return, GreenSky handled professionally since I dealt with a GS account manager, Tina, and funds were properly refunded.
But, the most recent order to be returned was over $2,300.00 and GreenSky could not figure out the remaining balance and send statements accordingly within the contracted 12 mos same as cash contract. They continued to bill me more than my balance for 2 statements. The no interest was to end 9/2025 but GS added finance charges.
Chat online was useless as believe it was outsourced overseas and reps are reading a screen without understanding. Since the remaining balance was low, I just paid it off today and unable to take advantage of the 12 month no interest offer.
What's hysterical is the payoff letter, emailed but not requested, contradicted itself.
This finance company is supposedly connected to Synovis Bank and would never use either again when purchasing a high priced item and offered a no financing program by GreenSky.

We recently opened a loan for solar…

We recently opened a loan for solar panels and whole house batteries. GreenSky released %50 ($19,000) to the vendor before checking if the work eas done. The vendor went bankrupt. So by thevtime I was notified of thecrelease of funds, the money was gone. Then they held mevto pay the $19,000.00 because they said it was in my agreement. I am still trying to get to binding arbitration but they put up so many barriers I am worried aboit my stellar credit. If I knew how low their business stamdards are I would have NEVER done business with them. This is my opinion of GreenSky. Do your due diligence. I thought I did.
P.S. when you call customer relations you will get the run around. Very unprofessional on the phone. They will say? "Weare so sorry you had a negative experience." Then they will do nothing to make it right. Just my opinion.

I have now entered my correct routing…

I have now entered my correct routing and bank account information (3) times to begin payment on a home improvement project.

Each time I have received a "payment cannot be processed".

I contacted them and they repeatedly said it was on "my end"... hmm I have had the same checking account for 20yrs and I know my routing and account number.

Something is not right.

Finally, they contacted me. Blamed me for entering the wrong checking account number, but would not provide me with screen shots from their system to prove it, if I was in the wrong I could admit it.

They had no problem processing my payment, will be taking screen shots going forward of what I enter.

Get another lender

Who would expect "Goldman Sachs" to have a loan subsidiary that goes out of their way to deceive the average loan-holder? I exhaled today making my final payment for ANDERSON WINDOWS for zero interest, but it was NOT a good deal. I paid it off using balance transfers to get more time with zero interest. Avoid GreenSky. Their statements are deceptive in showing exorbitant interest charges during the "0 interest" payment period and you have to dig to find the true current balance. The average consumer will be alarmed by their presentation of the statement alone. It's stressful to get ANY loan, but "zero interest" should create less stress. They go way out of their way to dangle interest charges (that are ridiculous) in front of you at every turn to scare you and make themselves look powerful and onerous. And this is only the beginning. I've no doubt the other practices are riddled with this posture and that deceptive lending is part of their shict.
