Terrible product

Terrible product, even worse installers. Poorly installed hardwood, product was a glue down, installer used the wrong glue. Materials are gapping, separating, shrinking and glue is not holding. Hardwood Giant replaced some materials, took out a lot more and this is where we are left. Poor product, poor install and nothing but lies about wanting to make sure everything is 100%, but no steps toward satisfaction. Would not hire these guys to install flooring in a dog house.

Hardwood Giant Calgary

My parents hired this company to install vinyl flooring on the main floor of their residence. They were advised that vinyl could not be installed on the stairs and that hardwood stairs with a custom stain would be required. After agreeing, they were asked for a deposit.

Be aware that if this company negotiates a contract in your home they require a Prepaid Contractor licence to collect deposits. I have confirmed through the Service Alberta online portal and by phone that this company does not hold the required licence to collect deposits.

The vinyl flooring installation was eventually completed, following shipping delays, and was generally acceptable.

The hardwood stair installation, however, has been extremely problematic. There were multiple delays, upon visiting my parents and seeing the install we suggested they should get a second opinion based on the quality of work to date, We did have an independent third party inspect and the findings were very concerning.

The inspection identified multiple code deficiencies and workmanship issues on both stair flights, including:

Tread nosings not compliant with Alberta residential stair code requirements

Bullnose overhangs varying significantly from tread to tread

Tread depths below minimum code requirements in some areas

Poor workmanship including sanding scratches, gaps, pieced treads, and mismatched filler

Damaged and cracked railing posts and unsafe gaps in railings

These deficiencies created safety concerns, particularly as the home is occupied by seniors who rely on the railings for stability.

After the inspection was completed, the company demanded final payment within 24 hours and dismissed the inspection report on the basis that they were not present during it.

Based the inspection findings, and how concerns were handled, I would strongly recommend that consumers verify licensing and proceed with caution before engaging this or any company.

I had Hardwood Giant Calgary install…

I had Hardwood Giant Calgary install manufactured hardwood in my home in January. They had great prices and selections but the installation was poor. They did a terrible job of removing the old vinyl flooring and laid the new floor over the uneven floor in some areas. I had to have them redo the areas several times but in doing that, they removed and inserted only certain boards which meant they cut the tongues or grooves off and the boards didn't stay in place because they didn't interlock anymore. One board cracked and they just glued the corner but you can see the crack. They raised the floor in a bathroom and didn't install the toilet properly. It leaked and ruined some of the flooring. I had to call them to have them come back and fix the floor many times before they finally came. They even gave me a date and then never showed up or called. Eventually they came to repair the floor and told me they had fixed the toilet and tested it. I didn't believe him and I had a plumber come at the cost of $300 to inspect it. He lifted the toilet off the drain and showed me it didn't even touch the wax ring!
They started working at the front door and worked their way through the house. They walked back and forth across the new floor with dirty and wet shoes to go out the door to use their saw. They never mixed the packages of boards up enough so I ended up with many areas where the boards had identical markings/designs side by side.
I would never use these guys again.

Terrible service and zero "Satisfaction…

Terrible service and zero "Satisfaction Guarantee." I cannot recommend them.

We had the most disappointing experience with Hardwood Giant (HG). Dealing with their Vancouver store, I ordered engineered wood flooring based on a sample, but what arrived was a disorganized mix of colors and shades that our installers (and HG's local branch manager) confirmed was incorrect and flawed.

Instead of a prompt apology and refund, I was put through the wringer. Management was even worse... no one senior from head office ever returned our calls. Their stance was that they "don’t do refunds," forcing me to spend months negotiating just to get most of my money back. Eventually, a newly-hired customer service worker called to offer a full refund. But he was just another mouthpiece, and, like the original branch manager, unauthorized to do anything else. Thus, we remain out-of-pocket on the following: $300 for two pickup and deliveries, paying a premium on finding a new supplier, and a massive amount of time wasted...

If you value your time and your project schedule, avoid buying from this company. They have a large presence in Canada, but their customer service is non-existent when things go wrong.
