I honestly never bother to rate…

I honestly never bother to rate anything, but we had a great experience with Havebike; everything from the booking, the collection, the return was so easy and hassle free. Great value for money as well! Bike is well built and safe to use. Definitely recommend and use them again

Fancy a new bike?

We all know that the ideal number of bikes is one more than you have, right? Or is your old clunker so tired that you need a replacement? There may be another, less divorce-inducing way to get a "new" bike...
My Brompton has been in daily use for five years. There was nothing wrong with it, except for an annoying squeak that gallons of WD40 couldn't fix. And some sloppiness. And tired brakes. And a recalcitrant derailleur. You know, all those little niggles that you ignore while you dream of a new bike.
Havebike picked up my Brompton exactly on time and reported back promptly on squeaks, arthritic joints, brakes and drivetrain. I pressed "go" on the email ("Let's chat" and "no" were other options).
My plans changed so I needed Havebike to return it to my home instead of office but they handled that in their stride.
The Brompton that came back was like a new bike for a fraction of the cost. The brakes stopped me like I'd thrown out an anchor, the gears changed without demur and the bike's joints moved silently and silkily (my own sadly move more sulkily).
This is not my first experience of being a Havebike customer and it won't be my last.

Awful service

Awful service! Paid for a deluxe service £100 with a return of the bike 24/48 hour turn around...16 days later after numerous emails the bike is returned. Trying to speak to someone on the number on the website is ridiculously hard to do! I would NOT use again or recommend!!

Good service but slightly expensive

The team at Havebike are great. It was very good communication around pick up and service issues. The service was very good and cost effective with a £20 discount however the additional items and labour were probably slightly expensive.

Terrible service

They collected my bike 14 days ago charged me £228 (£118 on top of their quote) and yet still no bike returned.
No communication, do not answer phone or emails. Terrible service steer clear

DO NOT ENTRUST YOUR BIKE TO THESE…

DO NOT ENTRUST YOUR BIKE TO THESE PEOPLE. These people are incapable of providing the service they advertise.

Delays, false promises, lies, aggressive upselling, missed pickups and deliveries, no communication. Be prepared to waste days sitting around for collections and returns that don't turn up. Nobody answers the phone when you try to call. Promised 72 hour turnaround is now running at 6 days and I still don't have my bike back. My first experience of using this service last year was great, but seems like this company is now circling the drain, please save yourself a LOT of grief and go elsewhere.

havebike failed to service my bike…

havebike failed to service my bike within the pre-agreed time frame. They omitted to update me with the lack of progress and did not inform me that I would not have my bike returned to me as arranged. This delay only came to light through me contacting havebike directly. I asked for my bike to be returned without the service having been done.

Bike refreshed

What can I say a fantastic service from start to finish. They picked up the bike and kept me in the loop every step of the way until its return. Reassurance on getting things done in a timely manner was no worries at all. The report on all the points covered goes to show these guys leave no stone unturned.

Im very happy with the service, just yet to test the bike out, but Im sure they got me covered very well here and Im very confident the bike will feel like new.

Really disappointed

I have been a regular customer for the last couple of years - putting 3 different bikes through the workshop twice - and generally I have had no complaints, other than informing them that I thought some of their "Advisory" repairs were a bit of a cynical try on in order to upsell. I've had a "new chain" and "new cassette" recommended virtually every time - often just 6 months after Havebike had already put new ones on....

This week I took advantage of a £30 voucher code they had emailed me to get a discounted Deluxe Service. My road bike is nothing special: a bog standard, 10 years old aluminium Evans Pinnacle. It has been regularly serviced and I do about 80-100m per week.

When the email of suggested works came back the total amount of parts plus fitting came to over £600, of which about half was deemed "Safety Critical"! This is, needless to say, far more than the bike is worth.

I asked for just the brake pads and fitting (£24 - alongside £70 for the service) to be done and was refused. Havebike then charged me £20 for the bike pick up and return, without completing the service. When I got back on it the saddle had been left at the wrong height and both brake cables had been significantly loosened, so they actually charged me £20 to make my bike worse.

I'm very happy to go elsewhere in future.

ADDENDUM 11/11/22

I appreciate the written response (and a phonecall today) and offer to reimburse the final £20, which I have accepted. I did not accept the offer of a free service however as I have now booked with an alternative firm.

Dear Martin, we're very sorry that you have given us a 1 star review for carrying our a full safety assessment of your bicycle (carried out by a fully qualified mechanic) and reporting back on the condition of your bicycle and the cost to repair it.

An advisory recommendation is not a cynical attempt to upsell. It is a genuine recommendation by a qualified mechanic that a part has been found to be worn or damaged and in need of replacement. However, the customer is free to accept or decline the recommended work.

For a bike that is 10 years old which (as you state) is ridden 80-100 miles a week it is highly likely that many parts will be worn and need replacing. Likewise, for a regularly ridden bicycle, it is not uncommon for a chain and cassette (consumable parts) to require replacement every 6 months. This helps avoid prematurely wearing other components on your bicycle

As per industry best practice, we cannot proceed with any work if safety critical work is identified and not accepted. This avoids putting an unroadworthy bicycle on the road, putting customers and other road users at risk.

As for your concern about the bicycle being returned with the saddle height at the wrong height, we will ask a member of our customer service team to contact you to arrange for that to be rectified. As an apology for your disappointment, we will also arrange for the price you paid for your service to be refunded in full (without retaining the costs of collection and assessment).

We hope this answers your concerns.

I had my bike serviced over Summer and…

I had my bike serviced over Summer and it worked a treat . I then had a puncture and my handlebars twisted .
The Haveabike picked up my bike took it away to be fixed . Very smoothly , professionally.
My paperwork presented back had some lovely gestures from the technician who obviously cared about my bike as much as I do .
Outstanding service and follow up cannot fault and would use them every year for my beloved bike.

Do what they say they will

Totally reliable service. Keep you up to date on things, charge a reasonable price. If there are delays they are open and transparent about it. Say they will be somewhere at a time and they are. Simple stuff maybe but not common practice in the many bike servicing companies I've tried!

Sorry to hear this Christian, could you email customerservices@havebike.co.uk with the job number so that we can arrange to get the bike back and give it a thorough clean. Our Deluxe Service includes a Professional Valet Including Full Frame & Fork Clean, the bike should have come back you professionally cleaned, could I ask what the particular problem areas were?

Ok job for eye watering costs

Paid £120 for what turns out is a clean and a paid inspection to give me the list of what is wrong with the bike, I’m not sure now what else the service cost pays for as it doesn’t count towards any of the work. The cumulative cost of swapping a few components worked out at 50% of what the bike cost new £450/£850. Before the service the gear change was snappy and instant, now it takes a few seconds per change. I wouldn’t use these guys again I don’t think

Thank you for the review, we are sorry to hear you are unhappy with the service you received. Your bike received a Deluxe Service. That includes the work listed here: https://www.havebike.co.uk/deluxe-service/
Before we commence any service work, your bike receives a 104-point safety check. Part of this check includes identifying any worn or damaged parts and any safety critical issues. Our customers are free to accept/decline recommended work.
Many consumable parts were worn and at the point where they needed to be replaced (chain, cassette, brake pads and rotors). The supply of new parts is not included as part of the service, hence the additional charges for replacing these parts.
As regards your post service issue, all our work comes with a 3 month labour, and 12 month parts warranty. We will happily collect your bike (without charge) to investigate the gear change.
One of our customer service team will be in touch to arrange that for you. In the meantime, if you do have any other concerns, please do contact us on customerservices@havebike.co.uk and we will happily aim to resolve those concerns.
