Terrible experience

I bought a new-build home in 2017 that came equipped with a Megaflo cylinder. Recently, I noticed that the hot water had a foul smell. I contacted a Megaflo/Baxi engineer, who reported that there was nothing wrong but could not explain the cause of the odour. The case managers were unhelpful and advised me to have the cylinder drained; however, the smell persisted. I think we need to replace the cylinder less than 10 years of use because of faulty product.

Well after waiting a Positive Reply…

Well after waiting a Positive Reply from Heatrae, typical after sales service, no decent reply was ever made, we have decided to replace the cylinder with a better quality unit, Gledhill.

We have three of their Elson water heaters…

We have three of their water heaters installed in our building. Despite being used very infrequently (sporadically), all three units started leaking in the exact same spot. This is a clear indicator of a systemic manufacturing fault, not wear and tear.

I contacted the company and sent them a specific video documenting the failure. Instead of dealing with a problem affecting three identical products, their response was less than professional. They initially questioned the system pressure (which was checked and confirmed correct at 40 psi), and then suggested the 'outlet spout was slightly blocked'.

I even verified this unhelpful suggestion: after removing the plastic spout fitting, the water flows without any disruption. Despite this, the unit is still leaking like mad.

A company that should know its product inside out is ignoring facts and shirking responsibility, instead offering useless, speculative hypotheses. All they care about is making the sale and then washing their hands of the issue.

Had a Heatrae sadia Megaflo cylinder…

Had a Heatrae sadia Megaflo cylinder installed in 2019, we were not advised at the time that these cylinders needed servicing, only to make sure you have the warranty in place.
We had the cylinder inspected during our annual boiler service every year, After the cylinder was installed in 2019, a couple of years after we had to replace the air gap as advised on the cylinder and by the manufacture, this was done at least twice a year, unknown to me that this is an internal fault
The internal cylinder 25 years warranty, the external skin 2 years warranty
The cylinder is useless, the manufacture are not interested in replacing said unit.
Now in the process of replacing with a better quality cylinder.
Don’t bother with this Brand

Polite but uninformed customer service

We have a Megaflo cylinder, the air gap has reduced, so water is dripping into the tun dish - this happens every few years and is a design feature. I phoned to book a service - which includes recharging the air gap. I was told that as water was dripping it was a fault and I needed a repair, at a cost of £250 more than a service. Their phone staff should be better informed about their products.

In line water heater - flooded the house

In line water heater installed March 2024, here we are in May 2025 dealing with the aftermath of it exploding and firing water all over the cupboard, down the stairs and into the lounge. This was the second one installed as the first item just didn't work so was replaced. AVOID.

Dan Lee

Upon calling to book an engineer, the customer representative are very friendly, I didn't have to wait long to be answered, they listened to my needs and found the right help. They will tell you through message about what time will the engineer be coming, but this is what they just kinda fell through as sometimes that message doesn't come through and I have to call them again on the day what time help is coming.
Though, initially (my problem of no hot water) is the reason I called, that night, it just worked again, and had hot water.
Though adamant to cancelled as I didn't need it anymore, I resume the booking because i need understanding about the controls about the hot water control panel. So Dan Lee show up, and I was prompt to tell him that our boiler is fine but I have some queries. Dan Lee was patient and show me how the boiler works and spend that day educate me the boiler system. From adjusting the time on the control panel, to understanding how the boiler works! It was an educational and helpful tips overall! Thanks Dan Lee! 👍👍👏

Terrible customer service

The expansion baffle in my Megaflo unvented cylinder has started to decay after 12 years and has repeatedly blocked my hot water system. I've been trying to find out Heatrae Sadia's position on this but so far I've been on hold for four hours across multiple attempts to call them during my own work hours. Still not spoken to anyone.

Built in obsolescence.

We bought an amptech boiler which was fine for a few years but one out of the four elements has now gone, and the Heatrae man said the whole boiler would have to be replaced as a single element can't be changed. This is not good value. And Baxi wanted to charge us for yearly servicing which it does not need. Our electrician has fixed it so that it operates on three elements until we find a better solution as I don't want to buy another one. I would not recommend it.

Do not buy their products if you live in Scotland

Do not buy their products if you live in Scotland as they do not have anyone accredited to repair them. The guarantees are therefore worthless. By selling them to people in Scotland they are in breach of consumer law but good luck actually getting a response!

Awful company to deal with

Awful company to deal with. Provided a faulty cylinder that hasn’t even lasted a third of the warranty period. That cylinder has ruined my hot water system causing countless blockages, lack of hot water to showers and taps. Lied about costs of a regulated lending product (finance) and then had to backtrack. Now can’t get them to commit to a date for cylinder replacement. Case manager never calls me. Terrible service.

Hopelessly pathetic service & faulty products

It often leaks & the customer service is always looking at ways to sell service contract/plan which charges you £330 pa. Rude customer service & not a professional sounding company. Each time the response you get is different but the end game is always to get you to buy their service plan. I think the builders get a kickback for installing Megaflow from Heatrae Sadia, as the bill for repairs & maintenance is often more than the initial setup & this will be borne by the home owner for the rest of the life of the boiler/cylinder. Absolute crooks disguised as professionals.

Unreliable and expensive to fix.

I have an electric boiler and central heating system that wa installed in 2017. This year the central heating part stopped working and it took £700 and three visits by plumber and Baxi engineers to fix it. The boiler drum, whch is unlikely to have any problems, is guaranteed for 10 years. The rest, for 2 years. Heatrae Sadia can't fix their own products but rely on Baxi to do it for them, for which the cost is £430, whatever the problem. Baxi engineers, however, mostly work with gas boilers, not complicated electrical ones so aren't so good at finding the fault and fixing it quickly. For such an expensive piece of kit, you'd expect better guarantees and also that it wouldn't just suddenly stop working.

Customers’ money wasting machine

Expensive poor quality products with short lifetime. Technical support staff cannot properly identify the problem and advise on it. The company does not service significant part of its product range. Very good customers’ money wasting machine.

We bought the water heater (Heatrae Sadia R120/3 Plus) in May 2019 and it broke recently after only 4 years of service.

When the fault was identified, it was discussed with the company’s technical support and some part had been purchased. However, it did not rectified the fault and during the second call with technical support the Technical Support Specialist recommended to replace the water heater, as he was not sure what the fault actually was.

Purchasing complex technical equipment, which is quite expensive, a customer would expect this water heater to last much longer than 4 years (my previous water heater of a similar type produced by another producer lasted 14 years, before being replaced).

The most appalling is that in addition to producing complex equipment with apparently short service life (and a very short warranty period!), the company does not make any effort to keep up its own reputation and the reputation the products it produces. I contacted a number of engineers, who service similar equipment, and they refuse to work with Heatrae Sadia product, referring me back to the company and the company sending me back to the local market. More importantly, the company specialists cannot help with the equipment the company produces.

As a result, in addition to the money wasted on this product and additional funds spent in the
attempt to repair it, we need to buy another water heater.

HeatRae Sadia - poor reliability

My HeatRae Sadia heat recovery system has failed, after 6 years of very gentle intermittent use. (We turn it off for 6 or more months of the year). Investigation shows that the motor module, or just its circuit board, has failed. You cannot buy replacement boards, only complete motor modules. These have the astronomical price of £720! Very disappointed with the reliability of this unit, and even more so with the cost of replacement. I am considering replacing the whole unit with a more reliable one, from a company with a better reputation. It seems that Baxi are just milking this brand for the most they can get.

Decent staff but an unmanaged, zero service, organisation.

Fitted a Megaflo cylinder in 2015 and now discover it is leaking chemicals into my water supply. After inspection a no-cost replacement was proposed. Fine so far (if we ignore tap water running through green goo in the tap filter!). Now they are asleep on the job. The promised replacement may or may not arrive today but multiple calls have not led to any news. This company is devoid of management and I would never willingly use their products or services again. Gent in customer relations seemed the only one to care.

Edit: Cylinder arrived unexpectedly the day after my complaint and this review. We could easily have been out. The delivery text stated it was coming from Screwfix so we thought it was a scam.

We'll see how/when installation goes! We'll address water safety after the refit.

A belated edit....yes, they did resolve it, yes it was cost free to me, yes. All the staff encountered were decent and really wanted to help. I can only conclude that my problems were due to a poor system in which to operate.

No, the green has not been identified. Yes, for all I know I could grow three heads as a result, or worse.

Disgraceful service

I do not recommend the Heatrae Sadia Multipoint Eco water heater, nor do I recommend Heatrae Sadia as a company. Terrible service. The unit is faulty, and they are quite happy for me to be without hot water until after the 4th of January to send an engineer to look at it. No return phone calls, only sloped shoulders.

Zero stars. Shoddy product prone to faults and breakdowns, incompetent engineers, hopeless customer service. Still waiting for my system to be repaired and now on 4th engineer visit

I do not recommend this product or this company. My rating is zero stars.

The boiler is badly designed, shoddily manufactured and prone to constant faults and breakdowns. For me, these began to occur days after the 2 year warranty expired. They have been never ending for 2 years now, and have come one after the other. It was only installed 4 years ago.

A problem anyone with this product will encounter is that there are few engineers who work with Heat Rae Sadia boilers. This means you are forced to use Heat Rae Sadia engineers. The repair and care package I took out was overpriced, and bizarrely there is a surcharge if you pay for the whole 12 months in advance rather than by monthly installments. It's usually the opposite. Maybe if I'd wanted to pay monthly there would have been a different surcharge on that option too. It seems to be all about money for them.

The sales team guarantee all their engineers carry all necessary parts at all times, and all repairs will be carried out in one visit. This has not been my experience. With the current set of faults - central heating breakdown, leak, and partial hot water breakdown - I am now waiting for my 5th appointment.

1st Appointment, 6 December
The first engineer said he didn't have the necessary parts and the job would take too long. He wasn't worried about the leak because the flat is on the ground floor. His words "I'd be worried if there was somebody beneath you but you're on the ground floor". In other words, he had no care for any water damage I was experiencing.

2nd Appointment,12 December
The second appointment was with the same engineer. Nobody showed up, and nobody from the company called to cancel the appointment. As you are not given a set time slot and the engineer only calls you half an hour before arriving I booked an entire second day off work and waited from 8am - 5pm for nothing.

3rd Appointment, 19 December
The next engineer was new, and seemed to be new to the job. He spent an hour on the phone to his "mentor" going through what might be wrong and finally said he had the parts but not the tools for the job. He/his mentor identified a further fault on the thermostat

4th Apppintment, 22 December
An engineer replaced a part but the boiler is still not working. The sales person who sold me the repair and care package informed me that aswell as the boiler the controls (controls, timer, thermostat etc) were included. The engineer said there is a further fault on the hot water controls and although the central heating controls are included the hot water controls are not. This company seems to make things up as it goes along.

5th Appointment, 10 January
An engineer is now booked for another visit

Customer services are hopeless. I can be on hold for over an hour waiting to get through, and several times I've been "accidentally disconnected" once I start speaking to someone. No one calls back when this happens. The engineers blame office staff for not giving them the correct information for the job, and customer service blame the engineers for not including things in their reports. There is no accountability or responsibility. People at higher levels are inaccessible.

There's not much choice with electric boilers but avoid Heat Rae Sadia if you can. Mine is unlikely to last more than another year or two - a 6 year life span seems very short for such a big ticket item, but it is not a well built product - and I would never consider another Heat Rae Sadia boiler.

The engineers also tell me now Heat Rae Sadia boilers are not suitable for hard water areas! Half of England is a hard water area!
