Randomly cancelled my reservation after…
Randomly cancelled my reservation after I had already checked out and received the car and was at the gate. This was after an 8 hour flight at 10pm. How is this even legal?
A screw in a worn-out tire.
I rented a Hertz car in Ft. Myers, FL and drove to Naples, FL. After 2 days, a "low air" tire warning came on. I aired the tire twice. During one airing, I noticed a large screw in the tire. Around the screw was white leak sealer (I did not insert this stuff). I drove back (30 minutes each way) to exchange the car. Separately, all tires were worn out with over 33,000 miles. Hertz has issued a case # 63960190 and demanding $100. I have a picture of the screw with seeping flat sealer which they don't care about seeing. I asked two times if the tires were inspected "all the way around" but the answer was always "we thoroughly inspect all cars" which actually didn't answer my question. This is a poor response to a problem which I didn't cause and cost me valuable vacation time. Mike Bell

Don't bother to give you a car even when you book one
I booked a car with Hertz over a month before my holiday. I then arrived in Barbados, there was no-one from Hertz at the airport and I was told Hertz no longer had a stand at the airport. A representative from another car rental company called a representative from Hertz Barbados for me and they were told "sorry we ran out of cars and the office is closed". Hertz didn't even have the decency to cancel the reservation in advance. So I arrive in a foreign country with no car (that I booked over a month in advance) and I have to scramble to find a last minute car from another company. Awful behaviour from Hertz.
Horrible experience, bogus damages, lack of trust
I don't know how Hertz Windhoek has such a good rating. My experience was horrendous. First I booked a 2x4 to drive to a hotel. I then changed to a 4x4 to drive to the desert. Since i didn't drive much with my 2x4 I didn't book insurance. Worst idea. They were looking around and trying very hard to find bogus damages to squeeze money from me, as they were not in the "damages report". Thank God I had a video to prove that all damages were there before. Then when I rented the 4x4, the rental experience was problematic from start to finish. First they tried to push a cheaper car to us, because I heard then talking to each other they didn't have enough 4x4 to supply every bookings. After insisting i wanted group M, I purchased every single insurance possible, even though the Hertz employee insisted it wasn't necessary. I know how how problematic driving on gravel roads of Namibia can be, so I insisted I wanted every insurance possible. Then I had to wait 2 hours at the garage for the car to be ready and delivered to me. When it was delivered, the pressure hose was broken, normal to be included a 4x4, and the tank was not full, even though in the contract it stated full. Already delayed by 2 hours i still had to drive to the gas station to fill up the tank. During my trip I had a blown tire, so I went to one of the mechanics in the map provided by Hertz and alerted Hertz that we were coming there. Hertz confirmed on the phone that I was insured. However at the garage, the manager told us Hertz told them we were not insured. This made us waste hours calling hertz and asking hertz to speak with the garage manager. Completely waste of time and energy. By speaking with the garage manager, he told us that Hertz insured cars are always problematic, and the process is never smooth. I am never renting with Hertz again
Hertz cancel our reservation 3 hours before pick up…
If they had zero star I would give them a zero. We booked our reservation for a minivan and they cancel it 3 hours before pickup. NEVER AGAIN
Absolutely terrible! Do not rent
Absolutely terrible!! I rent an suv 10-13 x a year… usually Alamo, Thrifty, Enterprise. Tried hertz… NEVER AGAIN!! Thus was Pensacola airport 3/25/26. First , did not have my rental… that I RESERVED !! I need to seat 7. Waited 90 minutes, great apologetic counter guy Carl from Queens. Finally , he found a mini van.. but had to charge me $38/ day extra!! Unreal!! After the trip, I get dinged for $12 tolls…AND A $19 service fee. DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ!!
Hertz rental form London Heathrow
We rented a car from Hertz out of London Heathrow airport. We chose every coverage possible ahead of time and was quoted 1322.42 pounds. At the airport, the agent said we accordingly have super coverage, which was a huge upcharge up to 2036.36 pounds. As I had travelled extensively in the states for work, I never double checked the rates during the pickup, as I paid what was already quoted. After travelling all night on a plane, we did not bother to look at the small print on the little form that I initialized. Why would we? It should have been as quoted. This is classic bait and switch which I never encountered when travelling in the states. Buyer beware!
P.S. Hertz did not give us any correction later due to our initializing the agreement at the airport.
If I could give zero stars I would
If I could give zero stars I would.
I prepaid and made a reservation with Hertz expecting a smooth pickup process. Instead, when I arrived, I was told there was a minimum two-hour wait for a vehicle. That completely defeats the purpose of making and paying for a reservation in advance.
I was traveling with two young children, which made the situation even more frustrating and inconvenient. When I asked about being compensated or refunded for the time I was without the vehicle I had already paid for, I was told no.
This experience was disorganized, unacceptable, and showed a lack of respect for customers’ time. If reservations cannot be honored, that needs to be communicated clearly upfront. I would not rely on this company again.
Updated to add the car was missing a whole emergency brake pedal. It was broken on a piece of metal was sticking out
An absolute disgrace of a company
An absolute disgrace. Given an "equivalent" car that was listed as £40 a day cheaper on website. Persistently lied to by an arrogant man who constantly tried to upsell us Mercs and ignored everything we asked.
Returned car (which was filthy when we collected it) and employee picked out supposed damage (a scratch to the alloy barely perceptible to the human eye, which she admitted was general wear and tear) and then billed us an extra £115.
Hertz UK is basically a legalised extortion racket. Never again.
Serious Security Breach
Hertz allowed me to change the password on my account. Upon logging into the account, I found that Hertz assigned deleted me and all my personal contact information and awarded points data from the account number, and assigned the account number to another customer. As of today, I have access to the account number, and have the ability to change the password and profile/personal contact information of the new customer.
Greedy
Renewed my rental at the counter and asked for the loss damage waiver(lldw) to be removed at that time. It took 10 days to be removed from my account online and never received my credit back. Customer service was very nonchalant about it as if my $120+ wasn't a big deal. I work hard for my money and if my father hadn't passed the same week, maybe I'd have more strength and energy to fight them. Either way, terrible service!!
I had a very disappointing experience… Reservation Confirmed, Location Closed, No Support Available
I had a very disappointing experience with Hertz in Corpus Christi.
Two families arrived to pick up a reserved vehicle after providing full flight details in advance. Despite this, there was no one at the location when we arrived. We attempted to contact the branch and corporate support, but were unable to reach anyone. Other departments indicated the location had closed roughly two hours earlier than posted.
In hindsight, this outcome was not entirely surprising. Earlier in the week, we made multiple attempts to contact the location during normal business hours to confirm our reservation, and no one answered.
I am a Hertz Five Star member and expected a higher level of reliability and service. Unfortunately, this experience fell well short of that standard and created unnecessary disruption for multiple families.
Poor service/poor customer service
I reserved a car one week in advance and paid for it. To take my 5 year old grandson back home. Its a 2000 mile round trip. One hour before I had to go pick the car up. I got a call they told me they didn't have any cars. My pick up time was 9 am. They said we might have one this afternoon. That was no help to me because it was a tight schedule to get him home. I was left with only one choice and that was to take my own vehicle. About 500 mile into the trip I had a break down which cost me double of the car rental. I have a older truck with a V8 engine so the gas was higher as well. Your company's response was were sorry and we can cancel your reservation for you. HAVE GREAT DAY REALLY. NEVER AGAIN WILL I EVER RENT A CAR FROM YOUR COMPANY. I normally would rent from enterprise however when I call them they didn't have any cars to rent for my dates. Maybe that how you should run you business ! That's poor customer service at its fines.
Unable to access vehicle – requesting refund
On 27 March, I booked a Ford Transit L3H3 (BP24ORL) at B&Q Northampton through Hertz 24/7. £68 was pre-authorised and £5 charged for the booking.
Upon arrival, I was unable to unlock the vehicle via the app. There was no alternative access method (e.g. physical key). I was then informed by B&Q staff that Hertz no longer operates from that location though they use the B&Q parking area, operating separately.
I attempted to contact support through the app and SMS, but responses were automated and ineffective. When eventually connected to an agent, I was redirected to email them directly or make contact through their mobile app, and no other relevant assistance was provided before my booking expired.
As I was unable to access or use the vehicle (even after having arrived to collect it 15 minutes before my actual booking time), I expect:
• A full refund of all charges
• Immediate release of the £68 pre-authorisation
This situation reflects poor service reliability and lack of accessible customer support. I would appreciate urgent resolution.
Needed to extend rental for one day
Needed to extend rental for one day. Could NOT get anyone to help for several hours. Tried online, calling, chat (they said the reservation was canceled and we still had car), then told to call the franchise who could not track the reservation and they hung up on me.

Gave me a car that smelled so strongly…
Gave me a car that smelled so strongly of weed you couldn't get into it without getting sick. Forced me to drive it back for a return even though I couldn't safely get into the vehicle. Promised to comp for the inconvenience then 7 months later sent a bill and denied ever saying anything. Will never rent from again.
