Hertz made me wait almost 40 minutes for a car, which should have been ready.

Then Hertz overcharged me for an extra day, when I had the car for exactly a week. It was their error that I picked up a non-existent car at an earlier time.

No comparison to my Hertz Gold treatment in the U.S.

DO NOT RENT WITH HERTZ

This review is for Hertz CDG terminal 2D location:
RUDE, ARROGANT, LONG WAIT AND 1 month MONEY BLOCK. These words describe THE WORST rent a car experience in my 30 years travelling and renting cars.
Only 1 employee which serves Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty. Wait 90 min in line to be met by rude and arrogant employee.
For a one day already prepaid rental WITH ZERO excess coverage, they BLOCK 760 Euros on your cc. Yes, you read it right Sevenhundredsixty Euros.
But, thats NOT ALL. After returning properly the car, they DID NOT unblock my card, so they're holding those 760 Eur for 23 days now.
I had to go to my bank yesterday to file a complaint, not to mention they ruined my holiday leaving me with not enogh money.
NEVER, I mean NEVER rent with them.

DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ

DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ

This summer, as we were following a cyclist as a service car for his first edition of the Paris-Brest-Paris (1200 km by bike), we rented a camping car to have all the amenities necessary for such a demanding challenge (shower, heating, recharging phone and lights, food, bed, etc.).
So we decided to be on the safe side and rent from Hertz, a "premium company" that we trusted at the time…
However, Hertz did not do his due diligence: they provided us with an inoperable camping car that had a failing battery. After driving a hundred kilometers the battery was dead and the nightmare started:
- no heating system (4º outside)
- no water
- no fridge
- no light
- no bed (yes the second bed goes down with electricity)
- no recharging the phone
We called more than 25 times to 5 different numbers and received 0 answer
Days later, after bouncing us between their different departments, they finally come up with a proposal: WE would have to cancel our holiday plans and divert from the cyclist's route for about 140 km to spend the day in a garage, repair (and of course pay) for THEIR failing vehicle.
That is clearly not what we expected, and sadly it is probably the only thing they tried to do.
As we were not able to use the camping car during the whole trip, and having no other solution provided by Hertz: we returned the vehicle before the end of our rental period. We had to pay for the food, bed, showers that we were not able to have on the camping car and had to abandon the cyclist on a few checkpoints while we were looking for power to charge our phone and call the company…

2 months later

The treatment we have received so far would barely be acceptable for a low cost company. You would expect a decent customer service from Hertz, especially given the consequences of their negligence, but instead, here is what happened:
After several months, countless emails, phone calls, bouncing us between departments, trying to put the blame on us, here is what they offered us: a camping car for 2 days… conditions apply…

What would you say if you get sick after eating sushi and the restaurant compensates you offering a quarter of the same plate of sushi?
This is how we felt.

When we thought their attitude could not get more deplorable, they started saying that they actually had "no trace" of having had to replace the battery on that vehicle. Please not that our return contract mentions that the battery was failing.

Nice one Hertz, on trying to put the fault on your customer to avoid reimbursement!
We will not give up, you can expect our calls & emails.

How far can Hertz go?
Let's bet on the next excuse they could find, and I can tell you, the crazier, the more chances it will actually occur!

Hertz

Hertz! Never again
The worst rental company ever.
After returning a car in perfect state I have received a mail accusing me of a damage. Little scratch which was there before the rental. I have photos to prove it which I took before taking a car but the company doesn’t want to even look at them. The company Hertz doesn’t reply to any emails with the photos proving I didn’t do any damage!!!!
I highly recommend and warn everyone to choose a different rental company.
Moreover they charged twice a rental fee. So unprofessional !!!!
So in the end, all together, I was charged of 330€ for giving back a car in perfect state .....

Cheated by the Hertz staff in Montpellier Airport

My familiy and I had rented a car in December 2018 to be used from 22 July to 9 August. 18 days. Prepaid more than half a year in advance.
During spring the airplane was rescheduled but no trouble as Hertz had my airplane number. I thought.
Even though it only was a few number of hours, the plane was rescheduled, Hertz told me at the arrival in Montpellier Airport that they had leased my pre-paid car to another customer. However - and lucky for me - they had a premium car I could rent for an additional amount. A significant amount when adding up with 18 days. It cost me €720!!!
I don't see it is fair to lease a car to other people, if you have an agreement with one who have pre-paid the car. I don't see it is fair, that Hertz lease it out only a few hours after expected arrival considering thar I had rented the car for 18 days!!! Pre-paid 7 months in advance.
Additional, I was met by a very direct and unpolite Hertz staff who skipped the welcome to go straight to "You are late. We do not have oyur car. But I have this very expensive car to you instead!".
When I told her that my plane had been rescheduled, she swift replied "No!". Excuse me, was it you or me who travelled with that plane. This person had absolutely no emphati and should never never work with customers.
Back home from vacation I issued a complaint to Hertz. Guess if I have heard from them yet.... they don't care.
This was a family trip but I do travel a lot with my job, and for sure I will never ever rent a car at Hertz again and I will tell colleagues about my experience with poor customer service at Hertz, as they should know that they have a choice to pick another rental company.

Very bad service and staff

An absolute disgrace this place. We have been waiting over an hour to get our car just to be sent to another location.
The blond lady at the parking is very rude and snap easily when asking a question.
We asked twice if it is the right place to pick up the car and twice they said yes! Suddenly they send us back to the airport where we had to wait again an hour.
Once the paperwork was done, we have been sent back to the place we have been at the very start of our journey - to get the key.
It was raining outside and we had to wait again 20 minutes to get the key. The man did not wanted to check the car and just handover the key. We had to force him to escort us to the car. So he would just run out show us the car and left again.
We are used to that someone would go around the car to check of the has any damages. My partner had to check in the rain and we found out that the car had many deep scratches and damaged - we had to get one of the staff to note this down. It appeared like they would be not interested in it. The car was quite damaged and ugly. It smelled not good at all and staff, again, did not cared that they handover a car at this pretty bad shape.

To force someone to come out was actually pretty handy, as the staff tried to charge, when returning the car, us for the damage we didn't do. We had to show that it was noted on the paperwork.

It is firstly quite rude to handover a damaged car and absolutely disgusting to try to charge us for this! It appears like Hertz Bordeaux is just trying to make money by scamming tourist from other countries.

We should have looked up the reviews first, but we thought that the company we have been flying with would take care as described in the contract. Staff is totally unorganized and their attitudes are unacceptable.
We spent a lot money to get the car after landing and have been treated very bad. We will also report this to the management. It appears to me that they would treat non-french-people different to the native ones.
This is discrimination at highest level.

Well done Hertz! Your organisation and staff lives totally up to the minimum standards.

HertZ is definitely a rental company to…

HertZ is definitely a rental company to avoid. Nothing to complain about on the delivery of the car, but when I give it back they were supposed to send the invoice by email but I’m still waiting for it! I have been charged twice so I opened an investigation and this one is pending for more than a month now.... really bad service we are talking about 120€ Which is a lot to me, they take it easily or got too many complain. Go for other company than hertz!

If you hiring a car from Nice, read this.

I hired a car from the Airport at Nice, France. The car was fine, the extra charges expected but the level of service and general information provided made the first half-hour very stressful.

I wasn't told I needed to take a shuttle to the car hire desk and so simply followed the signs from the airport taking me on a hazardous 15 min walk with my case.

The bored and surly man at reception gave me sparse and insufficient directions to my car - note they don't bring it to you or escort you to it but simply send you off to the vast car and distant car park. After much wandering I had to return to the desk where his female colleague gave me simple but complete directions which made locating the car very simple.

The man had given me a tiny, insignificant-looking scrap of paper on which he had scribbled the car location code. He failed to mention that this was also a ticket that would allow me to exit the car park. Hence, I'm sitting at the closed barrier at the exit, another car to my rear, wondering how I get out. It then struck me in desperation - could it be the scrap of paper? It was.

Robbers - My perception of Hertz car rental was…

My perception of Hertz car rental was ok until I got a triple bill for 2 days extra rental added to a 12 days rental. The original rental was 327 Euros for 12 days. 2 days extra was 462 Euros. Impressing and never more Hertz. After this experience I checked Trustpilot. They name them robbers.
I can confirm that.
The reason for my 2 days earlier arrival and need for the car was that my wife was sick and in a Nice hospital.
Hertz took advantage of that. No mercy but robbery

I've just been to Strasbourg with my…

I've just been to Strasbourg with my wife and friends. We flew to Mulhouse and had rented a car at Hertz via Rentalcar.com. We picked up the car in the airport in the French sector.
When picking up the car in the airport I discussed with the Hertz empolyee about returning the car fully fueled. Here I was told that i could fill it myself or just return the car and then Hertz would re-fill it at the same price. I asked if it would be the same price as if I filled the car myself? She replied 'Yes'. I believed her and returned the car without re-filling the fuel. We used less than 33-40% of a tank (it was a Renualt Clio we rented).
Now I realize I've been charged 78,94 EUR by Hertz. I've been in dialogue with Hertz why I've been charged 78,94 EUR as this seems more like a charge for a fill tank. I've been told this is because I've only driven 282 km then the 'same price as if you fuel it your self' doesn't apply (I should have beeve driven at least 300 km). Instead I've been charged 2,77 EUR per liter gasoline for the use of 19,72 liters of gasoline plus a a fuel service fee of 15 EUR. I was not told about that minimum distance issue not the fuel service fee when picking up the car!
With a little investigation I have found that the average gasoline price per liter in France was 1,55 EUR on August 6th. Even though I was in Strasbourg 1 month later the price per liter is still the that range.
The employee has appologised that I've been misinformed but won't correct the charge to a 'as if you fill it yourself' level i.e. around 30 EUR.
I find that experience unacceptable and therefore this bad rating

Good customer service

So I rent cars like 5-10 times a year, different places around the world. Usually in europe.

Booked via Dollar (Hertz company) in Geneva, France. And got a nice never Peugeot 2006. Unfortunately we got the wrong tire chains (Where going to the alps to ski), which we dont blame Hertz for (it can happen).. But we ended up with some problems and had to pay for towing later for 200 euro.
When we came home, I wrote an email to Hertz Customer service, who took our story and complaint very serious, which I think is a very nice service from their part. In the end the 200 euro we where drawn from towing, we got reimbursed.
