I recently used Hodgson Tool Hire and had an excellent experience from start to finish. They are easily the best tool hire company in the area. The whole process was straightforward, professional, and clearly run by a team that genuinely cares about customer service.

In particular, Callum on the phone was extremely helpful. He was positive, friendly, and very proactive in helping resolve the issues I had. Instead of making things complicated, he took the time to understand what I needed and quickly found the best solution. His attitude made the entire process much easier and far less stressful.

It’s refreshing to deal with a company where the staff are knowledgeable, approachable, and willing to go the extra mile for customers. The equipment was reliable, the service was efficient, and the support from Callum really stood out.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Hodgson Tool Hire to anyone in the area looking for dependable equipment and outstanding customer service. They set the standard for tool hire locally.

I've been hiring tools from Hodgson's for the last 5-6 weeks whilst landscaping my garden.

Super array of quality tools and range of machines, all easy to view on website to see what is needed for different projects undertaken here on the farm e.g. groundwork. Team on service desk in the shop are readily available, like Mike, Kevin, Lee, and John always always give me good advice if I need, and workshop lads like Stuart, John, Rich offer sound advice. Mike runs the business and delivery / collection is available if required if you're too busy to visit, just ring or email/ message them online to book hire, it's so easy. My neighbour and I hired this machine recently to remove three large willow stumps that had caused damage to our septic tanks drainage. We had hired this beast of a machine two years previously for another job, which had gone trouble free. This time however on collection we were advised we had done excessive damage to the teeth caused by stones bricks and rubble.
Initially we were advised by Kevin Hilton (Office Manager) :

“ The teeth & pockets can and do become worn/damaged on hires – hence the reason we sharpen or replace after every hire. Even the professionals are caught out by rocks/debris under the surface or entangled within roots.”

However the resulting bill of almost £340 came as a huge shock as it included almost £200 of repairs in addition to the Daily Hire charge including delivery and collection charges (all plus VAT) of £145. We never disputed the cost of repairs but felt the company could have given us some leeway, on the daily charge for the machine as we only used it for a couple of hours and asked them to collect it around lunchtime.
Furthermore, one would have expected their hire fees to have included a provision for on-going maintenance due to wear and tear of cutting components (which, after all, is all that was needed). We have not caused any problems to any other components. If this maintenance cost is so high, then surely hirers should expect a warning when hiring it that they may well incur a hefty charge for cutter replacement in addition to the hire fee.

We strongly advise future prospective hirers to be very wary of this company and the inflexible stance taken by the firm in view of the exceptional high bill we faced. Especially as we did not deliberately abuse the machine and had no way to access what was under the roots and the fact that Mr Hilton admitted even professional users get caught out.
My advice would be avoid this firm and hire professionals locally with their own machinery if you want Stumps Away. We certainly can not recommend using them again
