I call for a quote on a legal pack to be looked at no one got back to me . After the 3rd call I’ve come to the conclusion that they can’t be very good if they can’t handle a quote

I can’t fault the service I’ve had from Howells. Have dealt with the sale/purchase of a couple of properties and everything handled in an efficient way. Always able to get a rapid response to any queries I had. I’d particularly like to thank Jo Ingles and her team. Great service and were able to help me with a couple of queries after completion. Wouldn’t hesitate to use again.

Very slow service
House was sold before Xmas and still no sign of a moving date on 24th July. Trainee solicitor has not been fast at all...

Our experience with Howells Solicitors over the sale of my property has been nothing short of frustrating and deeply disappointing. We have remained professional and patient throughout the process, but the level of communication and accountability from this firm has been appalling.

Multiple emails have gone unanswered for weeks, and despite numerous requests for callbacks from Emma Mason and her team, no one has followed up. It’s incredibly disheartening to be left completely in the dark, especially when we were hoping to complete today, 13th June which Howells repeatedly told us was achievable even up until last Friday.

I now honestly don’t expect us to complete this month which will cost us even more time and money.

The excuse we’ve had for the poor communication today was due to their electricity being off in the office - not sure how this explains the past couple of weeks?

My ex-partner was advised contracts for her purchase were being sent to her early this week as “the good news is they're on Emma’s desk.” This was Monday — it’s now Friday, and she has received nothing.

All the agents involved are chasing us as they can’t get anything back from Howells.

This transaction has been needlessly delayed, and we are no closer to completing the sale of our property than we were weeks ago. What should have been a straightforward process has been made far more stressful and difficult due to a complete lack of communication and urgency from this firm.

We have done everything on our side in good faith and have conducted ourselves professionally. Unfortunately, that level of professionalism has not been reciprocated. I would strongly caution anyone considering using this firm. if our experience is anything to go by, you are unlikely to receive timely updates, clear communication, or a proactive service.

I’ve used Howells Caerphilly branch previously (now closed) and they were always so helpful hence why I’ve used them again. So far the Cardiff branch has really let the firm down. I would have no intention of using them again.

We used Emma Mason for the recent sale/purchase of our house. She and the whole team were great from start to finish. They kept us updated and were so easy to communicate with. Would definitely recommend and so grateful for the whole team during the process.

Very bad communication throughout the process. I did not feel that the Solicitors were on my side during this conveyance. Sent me incorrect details of another conveyance process. Given names of those people and address. To top it all couldn;t get my mums name right on an important document.

I instructed Howells Solicitors to handle the purchase of a leasehold property in Cardiff, which completed in May 2024. While the transaction went smoothly, post-completion service was frustrating. Several financial issues were left unresolved for nearly a year, and I had to raise a formal complaint to get a proper response.

Once escalated, Emma Mason resolved the issue, and Ian East, the complaints manager, handled the closure professionally.

Would I recommend Howells Solicitors based on this experience? Unfortunately, no.

Why 2 stars?
One star for completing the purchase. The second for eventually resolving my complaint. The lack of communication and long delays stop me from rating it higher.

I had an excellent experience with Morgan and Chantelle during the sale of my property. They kept me informed every step of the way with regular updates and were always quick to answer the phone whenever I had a question. Their professionalism, politeness, and thoughtful approach really stood out. This was by far the best experience I’ve had with solicitors for a property transaction. Highly recommend!

Absolutely the best solicitors I have used.
Although a long drawn out transaction due to two chain collapses, they kept me abreast of the situation and well informed. Quick to respond to calls and emails , I would certainly recommend.

Excellent service throughout the process with quick replies and updates. All done and dusted in 10 weeks which would have been quicker but we completed to suit the buyers.

Mike’s team, including Kelsey and Harriet, helped us to complete our first time house purchase within 9 weeks and we couldn’t be more grateful for their help. Kelsey was my main point of contact and she answered all of our questions promptly and knowledgeably. Given our experience with other solicitors, they were so much more proactive and a lot easier to reach - I was able to contact a member of the team via email or telephone very easily which was great.

We used Howell's solicitors in Swansea for the sale of our property and would like to thank Jane H-D's team, especially Megan, Sasha and Tireni, for their efficient, helpful, calm and reassuring support in what turned into a rather long drawn out process, which was not of their making.

We were referred to Howells by Peter Alun Real Estate for what should have been a simple sale: no mortgage, no chain, and a first-time buyer. Instead of a smooth process, we got radio silence.

For months, we chased updates. Emails and calls went unanswered. When I finally tried to escalate the issue, I was told the manager was on leave for over a week—and no one else could assist except Jane, the very person who hadn’t been responding.

The lack of accountability and urgency was staggering. This has been a frustrating, drawn-out, and expensive experience. Our property sat on the market for months purely due to their inaction.

We’ve also made our disappointment clear to Peter Alun Real Estate for recommending such a poor-performing legal partner.

Avoid Howells. This kind of service should not be acceptable.

Abysmal. Constant chasing from my end regarding updates. No urgency or empathy from the girl I dealt with. She seemed totally out of her depth. 2 months they tried to obtain a certain document, it took me 5 minutes to get it as I was fed up of waiting. Not once did this company apologise for how poor they were. I have multiple more examples. Official complaint has been made over a week ago and I’ve heard nothing back. Please avoid these jokers. Do your research and go elsewhere. Better still, employ a 5
Year old as you’re likely to get a more competent service. Shame on you Howells conveyancing team.
Edit 12/4/25 - Howells have apologised and offered some form of financial compensation.

Trying to get a retention fee paid back to us, but receiving no response from our requests. Poor service, would not recommend.

Kirsty and her team worked tirelessly to get me and my wife in our new house before the 31st deadline, I couldn’t have asked for a more professional service from all at Howells!

Excellent team all working with commitment and professionalism yet friendly and approachable.

This is my second time to use Howells for both purchase and selling of home (5 years apart) and it was an excellent service on both occasions.

Prompt and proactive - this really makes them stand out from so many others. I interacted online or by telephone with minimal requirement for ”wet ink” by use of secure and quality technology with no need for visits to them. They follow up regularly with updates so very helpful in knowing status and plan of action on day to day basis.

Highly recommended !
