Perceived duty of care failure of both Hyundai and their dealership Macklin Motors

On 10th August I had a breakdown of my i20. As a member of their Roadside Assist I called the relevant number and an AA car showed up an hour later. The clutch fault couldn’t be identified and the car required to be towed. Under the Roadside Assist scheme to receive a courtesy car your car must be towed to a dealership all Edinburgh and local dealerships Macklin Motors refused to take the car which as I now understand was breaking their terms with Hyundai. Eventually the car was taken to a public car park in Dunfermline many miles from Edinburgh and I was informed it would not be inspected till the 22 September. I had to wait all that time with no courtesy car offered other than at my cost. When identified the fault was a known issue for that VIN number batch and a warrantied repair. It is my view that a 4 year old car fully serviced under the Hyundai service plan should not take 6 weeks for investigation as a quick inspection of the car would have revealed, with reference to the VIN number the fact a maintenance bulletin existed specific to the fault and it could have been rectified in a couple of days not six weeks later! Both Hyundai and their associated dealership failed to deliver the promise of duty of care to me their customer. I now see how they have such low TrustPilot scores as my issue typifies underlying service administration failures from their President Ashley Andrew who I emailed a complaint directly to right down to their chosen customer service delivery outlet both of whom have let me down badly despite my years of loyalty to them.

We have recently bought a Hyundai Tuscan from the Colchester dealers Endeavour.
We were extremely pleased with the help we received from the sales person, who was unfailingly patient with all our questions.
Excellent customer service!!
We are enjoying driving the car.

Rip off at dealerships

Bought a 401.00 intake at hyundai (Auto nation Mall of Georgia) for my 2017 hyundai sonata se A year and 4 months later the runners are getting stuck again did not have my receipt but have a bank statement showing the purchase but due to the year warranty I can't get a replacement or my money back. They have better deals at the local parts store and if the warranty is within 6 months out of warranty they would still replace the part.

14 months and the car isn't fixed!

I reported defects to Hyundai within 3 months of receiving a brand new car. 14 months later and they have not fixed the car.

It has been returned on 7 occasions to the dealership, an engineer to the house, and it remains un-fixed. They also caused body work damage to the car whilst in their dealership which they have not resolved!

Escalated to Hyundai UK president. 7 months since this escalation, and the car remains jn-fixed.

They have refused to date, to take the car off of us, cancel the contract, and give us back the money we have paid Hyundai to date and legal costs we have incurred for a faulty car Hyundai sold to us from new which they cannot fix!

Hyundai's are to easy to steal

I've just purchased a Hyundai Ioniq 5 Namsan, after handover I found out that a recall remained outstanding, the service bulletin says the recall must be completed before an Ioniq 5 is sold. My car clearly wasn't checked for outstanding recalls and was handed over to me in a potentially unsafe condition because the Hyundai dealer didn't follow the correct procedure of checking for outstanding recalls and Service Bulletines before selling the car to me.

Because Hyundai don't facilitate switching keyless entry off I have to use a signal blocking faraday pouch on both key fobs to prevent signal relay theft of my Ioniq 5, theft of Ioniq 5's this way is rife around the world thanks to Hyundai, Youtube videos show how easily Ioniq 5's are being stollen using signal relay theft to override keyless entry. Supposedly the key fobs go to sleep after a period of no movement, Ioniq 5's have still been stolen when a fob has been sitting still for sometime, Hyundai should design the fob such that a double press of the lock button puts the fob to sleep and stops signal transmission until the unlock button is pressed like other manufacturers do with their key fobs.

I don't recommend anybody reading this should buy a Hyundai with keyless entry until Hyundai make more effort to prevent their cars being stolen. The alarm and immobiliser on Hyundai's serves little purpose when relay theft replicates the fob and overrides both security systems so easily and it's clear that the fob going to sleep function is unreliable. This means all owners of a Hyundai with keyless entry risk having their car stolen if they don't go through the inconvenience of keeping both key fobs in a signal blocking Faraday pouch permenently and using a good quality steering wheel lock that attaches around a steering wheel spoke. Hyundai aren't interested in the security if their cars so my advice is don't buy a Hyundai.

I phoned the garage (Hutchins in…

I phoned the garage (Hutchins in Swansea) initially to enquire about a mobility car, I spoke to a very bubbly knowledgeable salesman(Martin with the beard). After test driving the car and talking through all things involved with getting a new car I ordered an i10 which would be with me in September. I was kept informed and my car was ready 28/9. The handover was delivered professionally and with all my questions
answered.I was phoned on 30/9 to ask if everything was okay. I cannot fault this garage or the salesman. I would certainly go there again and recommend to others.

Chelmsford Hyundai

It is uncanny how my experience has been similar to others. New car was purchased 20-07-23. Handed over with a complete tick box of pre delivery of a new car items all positive( how much of it was fiction now). Found one scratch on the DS rear door and a blemish on the glove box surface. Later when it rained a patch of cover up washed out of a more annoying scratch. Fobbed off by the fact that scratch and repair man in holiday. Been unable to get any reply out of them and finally called to book a rattle in the rear door in for checking. Found out they are shut by calling Toomey's. Now a lot of the crap falls into place. Ordered our complimentary mats but clearly they haven't come in time. No call from the scratch man. Still the car is brilliant and if Hyundai are turfing out the rogues then I am behind that. Next time I will use Car Wow and play off one dealer against the other. Its not the car firm its the dealer in this case.

Unreliable - Ioniq 5 12v battery going flat

I am a lease car driver of an Ioniq 5. I have had the car on its 4 year lease from Hyundai Finance since March 2022. Since then its 12-volt battery has died on me 4 times. Twice last year, after which the car went in to Hyundai Endeavour in Colney Hatch, north London, for a whole week while they tried to diagnose the cause of the battery discharging. No courtesy car for the first few days until they accepted it was a warranty issue. They couldn’t really find the reason but replaced the power socket flap motor in case that was the cause. Roll on to September this year and the 12 volt battery dies again. Again I had to get breakdown assistance to get the car going. The AA confirmed the 12 volt battery was not accepting charge properly and needed replacing under warranty. I have their report. I tried to book the car into Endeavour Hyundai Colney Hatch but the earliest they could look at it with a courtesy car was 16 October. I need my car for my job - I work in the public education sector as a manager in a further education college - I need my car to get to work and while I’m at work as I need to drive to several campuses and other sites every day. The car 12 volt battery has died again today, no warning given, just flat.

This is incredibly frustrating and not the standard of reliability I had expected from Hyundai with this lease car.

To design an all-electric car with a 12volt battery that fails to charge and which will render the car useless despite its main battery having 15% of charge remaining (on this occasion) is ridiculous. Why do the car’s systems run off such a small battery and why can’t they take power from the main battery of the 12volt battery goes flat?

I’m really fed up with the inconvenience of running a car which is a proving to be really unreliable.

Is there anything that Hyundai UK are able to do about this to keep its customers happy? I would appreciate someone from Hyundai U.K. Head Office getting in touch with me to discuss compensation for the inconvenience I’m experiencing.

Can't be bothered

I picked up my new i10 in July. There was a scratch on the driver side front wing. I was assured someone would call me to arrange to come and fix it. It is now the 9th of September and it would seem to me no one can be bothered to fix the scratch. I also contacted the head office and received no reply at all.

2018 Hyundai Tucson Engine failure and persistent oil leak

We bought a approved used 2018 Hyundai Tucson from their Worcester branch in December 2022 on PCP finance. The car developed an oil leak within a month of having the car so we booked it in to get it it fixed under warranty.
They failed to fix the leak the first time even though they assured me they had so we had send it in again, At this point we were not made aware of our right to return the car as it had developed a major fault within 6 months of purchase. They appeared to have fixed the leak on the car this time around after having the car for nearly two weeks.
Fast forward to August after having the car for less than 8 months and not doing more than 4000 miles since purchase, the car spectacularly failed and broke down suddenly with no warning. The oil light and engine management light came on whilst we were driving, the car went into limp mode initially and then came to a halt.
We were not given any assistance by the service department on arranging recovery or a replacement car. We were told "we don't arrange anything like that here" even though the car was covered by Hyundai breakdown assistance which we had to investigate and ascertain ourselves. The member of staff on the service dept. is very rude and unhelpful at this branch. We also found that nothing had been updated on the Hyundai databases on the change of ownership and their was an incomplete service record on their systems even though this was supposed to be an Approved Used Car.
The garage has had our car for over a month now and has given us minimal updates unless we chase them up ourselves and and are now claiming they need a further 3 weeks before they can give us an update.
They have said the car has had to have its engine stripped down and the oil pump has failed on the car. We suspect the engine has failed due to problems with the oil circulation.
We have made a formal complaint to Hyundai and are looking at rejecting the car as it is not Fit for purpose and we have lost faith in the vehicle after repeated problems.
We are looking at referring the matter to the Financial/Motor Ombudsman if the complaint is not dealt with to our satisfaction.

Hyundai Tuscon Service

My Hyundai Tucson was booked in for a service using their online booking system for 9am.
Dropped car in at 8:30 and called on my way home from work at 3pm to see if car was ready.
subsequently found out the car had not gone through to service bay.
Had a few words with the service manager who explained they use a priority system for servicing and my car was at the end of the line?
It left me a bit frustrated as now I have to wait but hey these things happen.
about 1 and a half hours later the booking clerk informed me that the car was in the valet bay and wouldn't be long.
Paid for the service at about 5pm got to the car and discovered it had not even been washed or hoovered.
pointed this out to the booking clerk who could not explain why.
Needless to say left the garage in a huff vowing never to return.

Vouch for it

This car brand seems to be the most suitable for small families, or just even couples. First of it's the cheapest offering in the market compared to this company's competitors from the point of quality/price ratio.
Secondly, Korean automobiles are in demand nowadays no only because of their prices, but also due to the big spectrum of different models. I vouch for this brand.

All Hyundai want is your money

I bought a new Hyundai i10 in March this year. It has done just 2000 miles. On Wednesday 30th. August 2023 a WARNING LIGHT came on the dash. A yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it. I checked the handbook but could find nothing relating to it. Not knowing what it referred to and if the car was safe to drive I tried ringing the the Hyundai dealer supplying as handbook states. After several unanswered calls I eventually got through to them but to the parts dept. He could not help. I eventually rang their sales dept. I got put through to a receptionist and was told it was not possible to speak to anyone in the service dept. She suggested the warning light was about low tyre pressure. It isn't because that has a separate warning light which is not on. She could not tell me if the car is safe to drive.
I contacted Hyundai UK. They told me they would arrange for someone from another dealership in Worcester to contact me they haven't. It is Friday evening and the car is still showing the warning sign so I still do not know if it is safe to drive. Thay have sold me a car and have no further interest.

If I could give Hyundai less than 1…

If I could give Hyundai less than 1 star I would. Simply the worst organisation I’ve ever had to deal with in my entire life.
Bought an approved used car (2019 plate) from them in 2021. Within 7 months was having engine problems as the oil levels were dropping rapidly with no sign of any leak. They eventually advised they would take the car in and repair it under warranty after I had to make a formal complaint to actually get them to do anything.
They took the car in for investigation and repairs in January 2023.
We’re now in August 2023 and I’ve been in a hire car for 7 months, and they’ve just advised me that the car does not actually have the full service history it was sold as having, so they can’t repair it under warranty, stated that they would be returning the car to me unrepaired after nearly 8 months.
Currently having to go through the Motor Ombudsman to get any resolution whatsoever.
Clearly I’ve been mis-sold the car as Hyundai state they only sell approved used cars with a full service history and ‘stringent pre-sales checks’.
Utterly appalling after sales service, and they have to be chased for weeks/months on end for even a simple update.
Won’t ever touch anything Hyundai ever again. Truly truly awful company.
