Delighted with my Invisalign treatment

I started my treatment in mid 2017 and finished in early 2019. My upper teeth were just a little untidy and needed minor straightening. However, my lower teeth were in very poor condition, with one front tooth protruding forwards and another front tooth having moved literally behind the rest of the lower teeth because of crowding.

My orthodontist was brilliant. He recommended Invisalign and explained that that because of the amount of movement required, it was likely to take about 12 months. In reality, it took about 20 months.

During the treatment, I met with either my orthodontist or his Invisalign-trained nurse each quarter to review progress, to take scans, which in turn allowed Invisalign to adjust treatment as required.

By 12 months, the movement required was about 95% there, but the tooth that was “behind” had still not fitted perfectly into the space created by moving all of the other teeth in my lower jaw.

At the end of 12 months, at one of my meetings with the orthodontist, he recommended continuing with the treatment (for which there was no extra cost), which I chose to do.

At the end of 20 months, my teeth were perfectly aligned. The additional required movement was achieved and was 100% successful and much better than I ever expected. I had lots of comments from friends, family and work colleagues complimenting me on the results.

At the end of the treatment my orthodontist fitted a fixed invisible wire retainer behind upper and lower teeth and I wear an Invisalign retainer at night. Again this was all included in the cost.

Move forward five years to today and my teeth are still perfectly aligned. This has been one of my best ever investments. Brilliant product, with amazing support during treatment from my orthodontist and his nurse.

Finally, some comments on how I felt during the treatment. I was warned that in the early stages when “large movements” were occurring, I may be in some discomfort - I was probably lucky, but did not really feel any discomfort at all. I had one Invisalign retainer set (out of about 40) that was badly finished and did cause discomfort, however it was only for ten days until I moved to the next set, so just put up with it.

I would not hesitate recommending Invisalign, but would also recommend you ensure that your orthodontist is fully Invisalign trained and you are happy with him/her at the start of treatment. My normal dentist (who I have been with for 15 years) provided a recommendation to a colleague in his practice - so obviously I had high confidence that he would do a great job, and he did!

I am so worried about my treatment

I am so worried about my treatment, I am 5 months into my treatment and have already had a replan. I hardly visited my dentist during the initial first 5 months as no appointments were made for me. When I revisited for just a check up months after them being fitted (after being sent home and just told to change your trays every 7 days) I went back to my dentist for her to tell me my Invisalign’s did not fit (how is this my fault?) and that I shouldn’t be wearing them. She said I have moved through the treatment too fast! 😕 never made sense. Anyways since my replan I have noticed my teeth are moving but them seem to be getting worse than better. I take weekly photographs to manage my progress and honestly back in November my teeth were visibly straighter than what they are now! I feel like it’s going backwards? I have no idea if my treatment is actually working or not but I have been supplied 6 months worth of retainers now I assume this is the last of my treatment. I honestly believe they give you 12 months and once the time has ran out they don’t continue with your retainers or your plan or your treatment and you’re just left on your own. I am worried about moving through my treatment too fast that I’ve been leaving my aligners on for 14 days instead of 7 which is going to delay my Treatment twice the advised time and this I don’t feel like my teeth are moving!!!! I have spent £4,000 upfront after getting my teeth done was my dream I always wanted and now I am just left worried and anxious if this is actually going to work or not.

Go for traditional braces.

I am 8 months into my treatment and everything was fine initially. However now I have found the retainers aren't fitting my teeth properly and are dropping down. They are very noticeable in my mouth and I have had people commenting about it asking me what's in my mouth or what's wrong with my teeth. It's embarrassing and the whole point of having invisalign is because they are supposed to be invisible or nearly so. I now have an overbite which I didn't have before. My speech is also muffled. I am nurse and its highly important for me to be able to communicate clearly at work. I am having to repeat myself several times when speaking because its sometimes difficult for people to understand what I am saying. However I have been in touch with my dentist who said they had noticed all this from my scans but my teeth are still moving, which they are. They said they would book me in to review the situation and it looked liked I needed another set making. My dentist said they did not want to intervene before as it would delay treatment time. This annoyed me as they knew what was happening but just left it for me to pick up on and say something.

I wish I had the traditional braces now. I had traditional braces are a teen when my teeth were a lot worse and the treatment process took in total 9 months. 8 months in and I'm no where near finished.

Each to there own but 2.2 star reviews on trust pilot says it all to me. My treatment cost £4200 and I am actually starting to regret it.

I really don't understand how so many…

I really don't understand how so many people write bad reviews here. I'm in the middle of my Invisalign journey (almost 1 year in and will definitely need at least a year) and am really happy and enthousiastic about the results so far. I used to wear 'regular' braces as a kid, I went through everything my ortho had in its portfolio at the time, a journey of about 6 years back then, but because apparently bad posture and wrong way of holding my tongue my teeth went back to how they were before. So at the age of 40 I tried Invisalign, after recommendations of a friend. The process went fast and was very clear on what I could and could not expect. My dentist gave me additional advice to go to a speech therapist for example. I have had a tremendous improvement already and need to be patient about progress for my upper teeth.

If you compare invisalign to regular braces, there are clear differences: you need to wear it for at least 22 hours. Yes that's a lot but you can take them out and have the freedom to eat whatever you want! If you don't have the perseverance to do that every day, you should just go for regular braces.
Another plus: you don't need endless dentist appointments, sometimes there's months between appointments. And yes you need to brush often, which is also the case with braces. You should know that many people need attachments, although you only know when you start the plan where and how many you will need. On the other hand, I hardly had any pain or even discomfort, even when moving to another tray (in contrast to the pain I had when I had braces). People hardly notice your braces, and I don't see any effect on my speech.

The process takes time but I'm really looking forward to the final results!

I completed Invisalign in February

I completed Invisalign in February, and now I'm wearing a bonded retainer and the clear retainers I received in my package, when initially going for cosmetic work I was going to go for smile direct but went with mismile instead who offered me Invisalign, I was quoted 3500, an additional cost of 150 for the bonded brace was a shock but this was dentist advice not Invisalign, spending 4000 instead of 2000 well I'm glad I spent more because I get the check ups,my dentist was the best I cannot fault really but let's be honest having Invisalign is a dedication and sacrifice because if you don't wear them 22 hours a day you won't see results, I gave 4 stars because I found the wearability pretty inconvenient because you go restaurant or cinema and oh hang on will eat my ice cream or go bathroom etc , I wore these with barely anytime to eat because I was dedicated to get the results, the first 8 sets were ok and then I realised I got sloppy with how long I took them out, so had refinement and I stuck to them like a god, and it was not until the very end I saw results, I keep my retainer in all time and now can't live without them but I'm allowed to wear them less and at night but I wear them still mostly all day and have a bit more at morning without wearing just cuz I can now, you have to clean these alot as well so after food I couldn't keep brushing teeth so I swished water around my mouth at work and carried around, after I'd eaten or swish mouth and put them in , to clean I'd soak in tablets and scrub the hell out of them in cold water, I gotta admit putting fresh ones in gave me a breather of scrubbing because two weeks of wearing them they get discoloured and grubby and no I didn't eat with them in and I clean them all time, I bought a sonic device which saved me hell of alot of time and had to monitor the 2 hour leeway on taking them out so soaked during my food etc I wish I had metal for the sake of the taking out and putting in etc but if you stick to it and strict they will give you results, I'm happy with my teeth honestly, but it's thanks to my dentist and Invisalign was the best choice , this is a long review and while it costs alot for your teeth it's worth it if you dedicate to it in the long run, after your teeth are straight, you have to wear for life it's a fact but these have become part of my routine so I'm ok with that, teeth can ache and cause pain as well as plastic digging in but I filed them down and I did have a gum issue but it was solved by my dentist , it's been worth it my smile is it's best.

My Dentist suggested this treatment to fix my bite as bottom teeth were chipping.

My Dentist suggested this treatment to sort out my bottom teeth which were chipping, apparently due to my bite. He said the treatment would be 3-6 months: it was 1 year before I the Dentist said the treatment was at an end and my teeth were "the best they'd be able to get it", certainly not very similar to the Invisalign advert.

My bite is not right, my cheeks occasionally catch between my teeth and foods like biscuits & crisps stay on the surface of my teeth (in the bite), this never happened before. There are also 2 teeth where the top and bottom hardly connect at all.

During the treatment, when the bite was completely awry (around 6 months in when my teeth looked perfect, but I couldn't bite down, practically had to suck my food!) he then decided to keep the front 6 teeth straight with the aligners and let the back teeth 'settle' to their natural position, without the help of retainers. From this period when the teeth were left to settle to their own position, strangely no more photo's were taken!

My teeth (the front 6 only) do undoubtedly look better than before but the full mouth is certainly not what the Invisalign ad promises.

My treatment cost around £3,000.

My recommendation would be to go to an Orthodontist if you are considering teeth correction.

*BE AWARE* - Clause

*BE AWARE* there is a clause in your contract when you take out Invisalign that states there is a chance you will not get the results you want and Invisalign will not be held responsible. My teeth moved about 90% of the way advertised and wouldn’t really move any more, Invisalign refused to offer any partial refund or compromise. Was left with much better teeth than I started with but for £3500 you expect near perfection, which wasn’t the case.

Appearance of my teeth has improved but…

Appearance of my teeth has improved but it hasn’t sorted the overbite which I why I wanted treatment. No after treatment photos were taken as it wouldn’t have matched the treatment plan predictions. I’ve been left with a misaligned bite with a gap between by molars. When queried was told it would settle. 12 months later is hasn’t. I wish I’d have had fixed braces instead. Beware.

Awful journey from start to finish

Awful journey from start to finish, my dentist literally contradicts himself constantly, what I was told at the start is completely different now I’m at the end of my journey, I’m now waiting in my retainer which I’ve now been told I have to wear 247 for 6 months then every night for the rest of my life. Wearing at night not an issue but had no idea I had to then wear the one retainer for 6 months, what’s the point in having them whitened at this stage! Went to pick my retainer up to be told they haven’t received it! Now wearing the last of my refinement aligners which don’t fit properly now my attachments have come off!!! Not happy with the finished result at all, tried filling in a form to contact Invisalign direct but keeps coming up with an era message! Complained several times to the manager at the dental practice I go to and got no where!!! Total waste of money/time and stress!!! Would have been better off going down the smile direct route!!!

Invisalign hidden costs

I was quoted £4k for my treatment and right near the end when they so the final shaping and whitening, I was told I needed to pay an additional £1800.

The treatment lasted a year and at no point was there any mention of further costs on top of the 4000, in fact I queried if the final adjustments were additional costs and I was told no.

Anyone else had this happen?

My front teeth are ruined

My front teeth are ruined, had IPR several times and the shape of my front teeth are horrible, no care was taken by my dentist, I'm very unhappy, and the outcome isn't what I expected, wish I had metal braces now. Also my teeth are rough because the glue is still stuck on my teeth after the attachments were taken off. Very very dissatisfied. My treatment is complete now and I should be happy, which I'm not.

They don’t help when you require it

Over £3000 down the drain. They say they’re not medically trained on emails to get advice from my practitioner, my practitioner tells me to contact Invisalign. I’m expected to go through another course of Invisalign as I needed extra trays and now I’m being refused them.

I deeply regret ...

I deeply regret not going for metal braces. My teeth have worn down significantly during their use. Their use with little progress has caused me two years of distress. It's exhausting. If I could make the decision again I would go with metal braces. Just over £3500 poorly spent. Once I resave enough, I'll go with metal braces.

After my 2 and a half years of…

After my 2 and a half years of treatment due to overbite, I can say I am very happy with the results. For the first time in my life I have been able to smile with my teeth on pictures! However, there a few things to be aware of that I have experienced on my journey. Due to the fact that I had mine during the 1st and 2nd lockdown I could not visit the dentist every 6months. My teeth were moving and I had a few gaps for a while, I was trying to brush my teeth after every meal, but it was impossible during busy days at work (I was brushing them a min of twice a day). But due to food being stuck in the gaps for prolonged hours I have had two fillings done, one almost a root canal, pretty painfull...So if you have them visit your Dentist for check ups/hygiene cleans regularly!!! Which is extra cost, another thing to consider. Also the first year mainly I had huge discomfort for having 'active/moving' teeth, I could not bite hard food easily like meat and I had migraines...have paracetamol with you always, drink loads of water and get some rest too, but do not remove the braces for too long if in pain while teeth are Active.
Lastly, most of the time I had to file the corners of the retainers as they were scratching my gums, sometimes was bleeding. You can buy dental wax cheap from Boots which helps a lot too:)
All the pain and struggle in the end was worth it!
