Bought 11 ps5 controllers for £320 arrived damaged and missing parts, all the 11 controllers not worth £25

Awful. False advertising at its worst! Son scammed out of large sum, for Pokémon cards - boxed - and when received this afternoon, he was dismayed to realise that EVERY single packet (18 packets) had been opened and all good cards ripped out. Head Office seriously need to learn customer management. ‘Sold as seen’ does not include ‘excluding vital information’!!!!!
And to add insult to injury the ‘sealed’ game had been tampered with and all good cards removed but the bags had been partially resealed 😡
Trading Standards have been contacted. Misrepresentation is not acceptable

Bought a broken air fryer and was told it’s sold as seen. It’s not worth buying from them as price might be equivalent to retail price and you may be sold a broken item. It’s better you buy from retail shops. Buying for JP is over hyped not worth the hazzle.

PLEASE NOTE THE STANDARD REPLY, even when the auction was an online auction and not in person!!!
We offer all potential buyers the opportunity to attend the auction and view the lots in person. Sales with viewing are sold as seen and we would always recommend you take advantage of this viewing period so you can be satisfied that the Lot meets your personal expectations.
We offer our customers additional photos if there is enough time remaining on the auction.

Persephone from customer services was really helpful.

I would approach with caution, if you buy anything electrical take into consideration that it might not work when you are bidding. You have no distance buyer rights or consumer rights. Probably best to just avoid using the auction unless you can visit and take a physical look at items.

Terrible auction. I ordered the vacuum cleaner which came used and some parts were missing. Now I ordered a cream and the bottle came empty. How come it can be acceptable.. Guys, don't waste your money on it. I am very disappointed.

Its 100% a chance if you get a good working or worth while item, only pay what you are prepared to lose, the descriptions highlight only the item and I’m yet to see a description that states any faults, customer service are no use as they just say sold as seen, in most cases you are better off buying from a retailer, might be worth the risk if it’s an expensive item you win for a cheap price, bear in mind you could be buying a faulty return and you’ve paid for the item, the buyers fee, vat and delivery, in most cases it’s only slightly cheaper

Customer care after sale is really amazing. I have been purchasing from John Pye more than 8 years. Chesterfield customer care team really helped me and I would really appreciate that customer care executive May was really helpful. Thanks

I am very disappointed with my experience. I paid for a product that arrived broken, which makes the whole purchase a complete waste of money. The quality and service are far below expectations.
It feels like I’ve just thrown my money away. I would not recommend this site to anyone and strongly advise others to stay away to avoid the same situation.

Raised an issue regarding a damaged item, item damaged maybe during packaging as shown fine on auction pictures. Emailed Chesterfield, received a prompt reply from May, issue resolved immediately and return and refund arranged. Chesterfield could do with training the staff at Edinburgh on what customer service is.

Purchased an HP printer at online Chesterfield auction March 2026, item description failed to state printer cartridge jammed and that the item useless because of this.
John Pye replied not their problem, buyer beware.
Probably the last time buying from them, not the first problem with them.

I wouldn’t recommend buying anything electrical online from them. Descriptions aren’t great and lack the details . We purchased a lawn mower with no cable . Also a microwave delivered smashed. DPD driver asked when dropping it off what it was as you could hear broken glass . We said microwave . We’re told to open and call JP . We did 10 mins after it was delivered. Then told fill in an online form. Then told to send pictures. Now told they need to raise it with DPD and will be in touch. It may only be £20 but seriously I’ve probably spent more time in the phone and answering/waiting for emails !
And there you have it ! My reply says it all . Their CS ran me ragged and then the reply says Thanks for review contact our CS if you need anything else. The damage is done. The customer lost .

Overall Experience
I have purchased 100+ lots from John Pye Auctions. While collection-only purchases have generally been satisfactory, my overall experience—particularly with delivery—has been highly disappointing and exposes significant operational and customer service deficiencies. My experience with the Nottingham and Chesterfield sites has been particularly poor, whereas Edinburgh has been more reliable (albeit with some transit damage).
Inconsistent Listings and Rigid Processes
There is a persistent inconsistency in listings—similar or identical items are arbitrarily designated as “collection” or “delivery only,” without clear rationale. When attending site, I requested to collect additional lots (10+) won concurrently but was refused purely on this basis.
I also made follow-up requests via email to consolidate and collect these items—an approach that is clearly more efficient and cost-effective—but this was refused without justification. Despite this rigidity, the same items are now being delivered piecemeal, with some still outstanding after over a month. This approach is both inefficient and unreasonable.
Delivery Issues and Handling Concerns
Delivery performance has been poor. Items have arrived damaged, indicating inadequate handling, and the fragmented delivery process further increases risk.
Delivery via DPD is a major concern. Customer service is largely inaccessible, delivery attempts are sometimes inaccurately recorded, and basic delivery instructions (such as designated pick-up points) are not followed. While John Pye can engage with DPD, customers cannot—leaving buyers without recourse. In my view, given DPD’s widely reported service issues, the continued reliance on this courier is questionable.
Product Representation and Misleading RRP
Product representation is also problematic. For example, I purchased 4 Chest freezers (only 2 working) and 3 air fryers (2 not working). Despite this, items are listed with RRP values reflecting new products, which is misleading for used or non-functional goods.
Although “viewing” is offered, testing is not possible, rendering the process largely ineffective for electrical items where functionality is critical.
Conclusion
Overall, this reflects poor coordination, weak accountability, inflexible processes, and misleading listing practices. Combined with inefficient delivery management and a lack of customer-centric solutions, the service falls well below expectations. Buyers need to be wary and vigilant.
I cannot recommend John Pye Auctions based on this experience. I believe they can do better if they want to.
Ryan G was extremely helpful and sorted out my enquiry very quickly.
