leaked carbon monoxide
I’m disabled and my Keaton boiler started to leak carbon monoxide, very scary for me. It’s not that old C35 and I have it checked yearly. SGN came and disconnected it as it was dangerous, British Gas came and did the same. British Gas have had to come back and it still is leaking, they are coming back again. I will have had no heating or hot water for 6 days, but I guess I’m lucky I’m alive.
Our KESTON QUDOS 28S was installed 7…
Our KESTON QUDOS 28S was installed 7 years ago. We have had several problems with the boiler but this February the fan failed! The quotation to replace the fan was £578.40! The engineer said that there were a number of other fault codes recorded and he felt that we should consider replacing the boiler!
We chose to accept a quote for a new boiler rather than repair the existing boiler for the following reasons
a) The number of problems with the existing boiler
b) The difference in price, £578 to repair the existing boiler v £3,117 to install a new boiler with a 10-year guarantee. (All prices include VAT)
c) The lack help from Keston when I rang to confirm that my 2-year warranty had finished. They were not willing to give me any prices or advice to check if I was getting a fair deal: I was only a customer!
I have since read the reports about Keston on this web site and felt that I should include my comments to help other potential customers make their decision.
To be fair, I understand that Keston have, since my purchase, been taken over by another company but I was disgusted that even the NEW sales team could show such a lack of interest in heping me and the ease of which they were able to hide behind their "safety?" clause where they were not willing to give me any help on prices: I was, aferall only a potential customer!
With the poor deal I had with the original boiler and their lack of interest in helping me now, as a potential customer, I agree with other reviews, KEEP AWAY FROM KESTON!
STAY AWAY from Keston boilers
Installed a Keston 340 in 2001-it had countless expensive problems for 8 years and then died. Replaced it with two C55 Kestons (big house) which after 10 years of NON STOP problems and spending over £3000 fixing them (PCB's, Heat exchangers, control boxes and various other parts) both have died. I swore against getting another Keston the first time, but was given no choice because of the flue and other things. There is absolutely NO WAY I will ever contemplate another Keston again-I would rather move than go anywhere near one! They are a piece of sh....and they have given me 20 years of aggravation and sleepless nights-not to speak of days and weeks with no heat!
Ridiculous
We just bought a new boiler from Keston. The engineers have installed the boiler two days ago, but is not working, because there is a manufacture problem . Since then we are trying to get someone from Keston company to come to have a look and to fix the issue, but the customer service is ridiculous. They have no consideration for their customers. We have a 7 month old baby and we have no heating and no hot water on this period of the year! stay away from this company and don't make the same mistake as us!
It is early days I know but......
It is early days I know but we have just installed a Keston Boiler in a flat that we lease out. The flat is in a development that was completed in 2005 and the existing boiler was due to be retired. Unfortunately as the flue passed through a 4in diameter hole in a steel beam and then passed through about 15mtrs of commonal area, we had only two choices. An electric system or a Keston. Edinburgh Boiler Co fitted the boiler, they seem to have done a great job, the tenant is delighted and as the boiler was fitted by a registered installer and we agreed to fit the magnetic filter, the guarantee was extended from 5 to 7 years. We also agreed to take the £9.35 per month service contract (which also covers the annual gas safety test) and this provides a further 2years of guarantee and no additional charges for parts of labour. So we have 9 years of cover for what appears to be an advanced and efficient system. What can possibly go wrong?
Keston System 30 - dangerous - prone to carbon monoxide leaks!
We installed Keston System 30 in a property that we rent to tenants. The installation took place in 2013 and it has passed its annual inspection. Last night the carbon monoxide alarm near the boiler went off at 10pm and the tenants called Cadent's emergency services to come and were told the boiler was dangerous and emitting carbon monoxide. The tenants were told that the specific model is known to develop carbon monoxide leaks. Very concerning!
Our Keston Quodos 37 began…
Our Keston Quodos 37 began malfunctioning almost exactly 5 years after installation. Even Keston's engineer told us it was a lousy boiler and recommended we replace it . However we've kept it running for a further 2 years till now when its packed up again. The problems have included loud roaring and knocking noises, fan and heat exchanger malfunction and leaks. Its been impossible to speak to anyone at Keston - their answering machine put the phone down a number of times before I could get through. When finally I did get on to someone they promised to have the right person in business support call back and they haven't three days later.
We will now replace the boiler with a German unit and my advice to anyone installing a boiler is not to touch Keston or Ideal under any circumstances on grounds of quality, reliability and service.
I've had a Keston C25 boiler for about…
I've had a Keston C25 boiler for about 10 years and is about to be retired. Over that time it has had some issues but nothing too serious that couldn't be easily fixed. I've had other boilers in the past that were much more troublesome. I think a lot of the reasons they got a bad name was because of a shortage of people who know/understand them well enough to maintain them. They were extremely advanced and ahead of their time. In terms of reliability and efficiency, I can't really knock it. The old girl has a bad heat exchanger and I'm just about to order a new... wait for it.... Keston Ideal Logic C30 ERP. Can't comment on the company. No dealings with them. Asking someone to locate the serial number and refusing a visit just because the cover had been removed in order to locate it, I believe to be sharp practice, so shame on you Keston or Ideal or whoever you are. This scoring is based on my experience of the boiler only :)
My C40 lasted 7 years
My C40 lasted 7 years, which ties in with what the plumber who replaced it says he usually has to remove them at. Problems were with controls when it kept indicating "circulation" issues, when there weren't actually any circulation problems. Also one side of the heat exchanger became corroded due to a gasket failing - this in itself didn't stop it running but was a concern as to how much longer it would last, even without the controls issues. I would never get another.
Very unreliable
Very unreliable. Ideal Standard (who have taken them over ) charge extortionate fees for call out. They,ve got you by the balls because no one makes an equivalent twin flue boiler. Complete rip off.
Had one a few years ago
Had one a few years ago. Had to ditch it after 3 problematic years. Total crock and awful (non-existent) customer service. Keston must have upped their game since, otherwise they’d have disappeared by now.
Our boiler has been a nightmare
Our boiler has been a nightmare. Keston apparently can’t repair it if there is a problem with the heat exchanger but insist on charging £300+ to even come to see it. The error message is beyond their understanding also. Last engineer we had out advised us that Keston boilers are poorly made and irreparable -and he works on them !!! Don’t touch them.
Appalling Service
I paid a fixed cost of £320 in November 17 to have my inoperable boiler repaired. Come January 18, the fault returns. Keston 'Customer Service' kindly advised me that, although parts are guaranteed for 12 months, their work isn't, and in fact is only guaranteed for 30 days. In short, the same repair will cost me a minimum of £125 for the call out. Seems its in their terms & conditions, undoubtedly under 'we reserve the right to repeatedly charge you until you run out of money'. Finally, just to add insult to injury, they couldn't get an engineer out for 10 days! Clearly not a company that values its customers. Save money, avoid Keston at all costs.
I will never buy a Keston boiler again …
I will never buy a Keston boiler again due to their appalling after sales service. I have a Qudos 28h condensing boiler that no independent engineer will touch so I'm forced to go to Keston when it breaks down which it has many times over the last 8 years since it was installed. Keston/Ideal boilers take a fixed fee of £289 upfront (so it's a gamble whether you get a good or bad deal depending on what the fault is). The engineer is then supposed to call between 8&9am on the day of appointment (usually about a week's wait, not great when you have no heating or hot water). On the last two occasions that call didn't come. I had to chase Keston myself because I didn't hear anything and my appointment got pushed back several days. It took three rescheduled appointments each time to actually get someone here. The excuses included unforseen circumstances, personal problems, a system error, a van breaking down and the engineer couldn't find a parking space.
We have had two Keston C35 combi …
We have had two Keston C35 combi boilers and both systems have been hugely unreliable over many years. Why buy a second Keston after a bad experience with the first, you ask? Because the system was installed in our kitchen where the flue run is too long for a conventional single-flue boiler. We also struggle to get competent heating engineers prepared to work on the Keston. We have had enough of years of intermittent cold showers and are about to rip out the whole installation and start again with another boiler brand located in another part of the house.

Very bad experience with the boiler and engineer who requires a legal parking space
Very bad experience with the boiler. In its six months, it was broken and we have been living without heating and hot water. It is still under warranty but the engineer who we could book for 5 days later came today and decided not to attend because he could not find a parking space. This is just outrageous. The worst I have ever experienced.
Appalling customer service, rubbish boilers, stay away!
So the fan of my Keston C36 Combi boiler has broken. I've called Keston so they can provide out of warranty service and fix it.I was asked for a serial number as my boiler was apparently not registered even though it has been installed by Keston. Fine. I couldn't find a serial number - I was told my boiler won't be registered without it. I finally found it INSIDE the boiler. Keston engineer put the label inside. I told Keston I've got the serial number on which I was told I removed the cover of the boiler hence Keston engineers won't come! In short - I've been refused Keston service because of Keston engineer placed the sticker INSIDE the boiler! I was punished for Keston mistake! Incredible. I've read online that Keston is absolutely rubbish.I knew they boilers are among the worst. Now I know their customer service is as bad as boilers! STAY AWAY AND SAVE YOURSELF MONEY, NERVES AND TIME!
