Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 51 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many customers found the website and app to be poorly designed, with issues like outdated interfaces, slow loading times, and buffering videos. Reviewers also expressed significant frustration with the learning system, particularly the course challenges and mastery requirements, which they felt were unforgiving and led to repetitive work. The educational content itself was often criticized for being unclear, unhelpful, and not engaging, with some finding the videos too long and boring. However, some customers also noted that the platform offers a wide range of subjects, is accessible, and provides good explanations that help in understanding concepts. A few other people also felt that the supplementary questions were well-designed and appreciated the high standards for achieving mastery.

BAD BAD BAD!!

BAD BAD BAD!!! How to turn young people off school and education!!
My 10 year old son is set Khan academy for his homework every week. The videos are far too long, use techniques which are too long winded. The chat in between is tedious. My son switches off from it straight away - he HATES it. My older son was Ok with it but if you are not strongly academic it is terrible. And the fact is it is American and we are in the UK means students are learning the wrong spellings of things. When the tutors write things they put capital letters in the wrong places too. The names and scenarios they use are not easy to digest either. It's soul destroying when he gets one wrong and has to start again. Khan Academy please think about the range of students you are providing for. I am a teacher of 20 years and I would NEVER teach in the way you do. Appalling!

Not enough

I like how it is free and that they have an AI. However, they don't have courses for elementary science and history, and they need language courses. It isn't very interactive, and I think there should be games. There needs to be 11th and 12th grade language arts.

Perfect Experience

Beautiful and helpful website. I love how Khan Academy lets education be free to those who access it. I used to take it as not very helpful, but now I appreciate how it works, especially compared to the alternatives. Khan Academy has everything, for everyone, and it's free to use. What else can you ask for? It gives detailed explanations for you while also letting you challenge yourself. Gold star company, these people are rare treasures to the educational field.

It is a very good website if you are…

It is a very good website if you are studying for a degree. You can quickly read and reference the materials to support your points.
It isn't very interactive, with a few practice activities at the end of each unit.
That being said, it is free of charge, so take it as it is, a good free resource to use.

It's good

It's a bit boring, but the coding lessons are the best!
And in the videos, they explain it easily. IXL is garbage compared to this.

Content-rich, but non-interactive content

So, let me get straight to the point: Khan Academy's content library has lots of content, which is great for people who enjoy free learning and want to learn a lot of stuff. But what's bad about it? Well, this website enforces learning in a boring and non-interactive way. There are only videos and articles for learning, and this BORES ME TO DEATH. Can y'all just make learning more fun by adding real-time feedback and simple explanations to your courses to make learning efficient? Or allow users to form a REAL learning habit with game-like progress tracking and friendly reminders? And you know what's worse? You keep removing badges from the website, and all the gamified features (Earning energy points to customise the avatar and the profile background) were all removed!! Please listen to my feedback, and improve your website, so learning can be efficient and fun!

Upgrading Skills for Grad School

I've been using Khan Academy for a few months to upgrade my skills before applying to grad school, as I missed some calculus, stats, and economics courses in my undergrad.
I really like that Khan Academy is helping me to understand the concepts and build my knowledge and skills, without having to pay hundreds of dollars for upgrading courses. The caveat here is that this is purely for knowledge, and no credits are available (but pairing Khan Academy for learning with Sophia or StraighterLine speed-runs to get transfer credits may be a good wallet-friendly route).
So far, I only have two quibbles: first, the "Get Ready for College Calculus" is mainly a path cobbled together from modules that, in their normal places, flow together, but assembled in such a way that occasionally a quiz will test something whose module wasn't included. Second, I haven't found any way to download my learning history or any proof of my skills (so I may end up doing a speed-run through a paid, accredited platform anyway).
I give Khan Academy four stars for being a solid learning platform, and if the upskilling helps get me into my chosen grad school program, I'll definitely bump this rating to five stars.

UPDATE (27 April 2026): Halfway through my graduate studies, and I'm pleased to report that Khan Academy did in fact help me get into my preferred program. They've earned that fifth star.

Khan Academy - Portuguese Version

I am using the Portguese version of Khan which is funnily enough funded by the company I work for, but I'm using it for my personal use, and it has been an amazing journey so far I've learned so much, it's making my long-term goals seem reachable so I've to thank that platform for that.

They also skip some K-12 topics. Exact details vary per country.

They have a typical approach to children. Not black and white papers.

They leave no room for undetected abuse and misuse by a non-anonymous team.

When you get one wrong

When you get one wrong, you have to redo the entire 30 plus question. The way they teach is the most inefficient way and complicated. The way they teach is not applicable in real life. I HATE THIS PROGRAM. NEVER USE THIS.

Khan Academy, Please be nice.

Khan Academy is good and all, but nothing makes you want to come back after, in fact, I would like to stay away! I am studying 7th-grade math for 6th-grade compacted math, and they push me down when I get something wrong!

Can't use it correctly to assign work

Can't use it correctly to assign work. For half of the students it doesn't show up. When looking at multiple classes in some areas on Khan, it won't show you what class but it does tell you how many students. Think about how useless and dumb that is. Assignments with goals won't show up under assignments. This is confusing to everyone. It's like a double secret sneaky sneakster way to manage simple data. It was good when it was just math a decade ago. But they've overreached and need to hire a professional educator and web designer to redo their classroom management side of their site. Simple data management. As few clicks as possible to assign content. All "assigned" content should show up under "assignments" whether or not it has Mastery Goals. I gave up. I only have 40 years experience with computers. It isn't enough to use Khanacademy.
