We purchased a property in Dalkeith…
We purchased a property in Dalkeith that had been empty for many years and it needed a lot of the walls fixed as there was extensive damp to pretty much all the walls at ground floor level. Kingston provided a survey report and a drawing identifying where the damp works were needed. They came in, removed all the damp plaster, installed a new Damp Proof Course, fitted membranes to the walls, and re-plastered the affected areas. Their team of workmen were very good and I will use them again as we are very happy with the finished job.
We wanted our under-stairs storage area…
We wanted our under-stairs storage area turned into a dry storage space in Bell Place, Edinburgh. Kingston completed the job and we were amazed at how good the job turned out. We recommended them to our neighbors who also got their under-stairs area waterproofed and lined as well.

We discovered wet rot to our floor boards and damp on the walls of our rental property in Gullane. Stuart came out and showed us why the damp and rot were there due to high external ground levels. He sent us a report and price to do the works which was clear and understandable, and the cost was within our budget as well. They came and fixed the issues; the job was done in 2 days. Will use this company again.

A guarantee was required by our mortgage provider for woodworm affecting our roof timbers. We got Kingston to quote pre-purchase for our house in Grantshouse. Post-purchase they treated the roof timbers and provided a certificate of guarantee. Easy company to deal with and would recommend.

We were recommended Kingston Preservation via our Builder as he had worked with them for many years. They worked hand in hand with our Builder to carry out extensive Damp treatments and tanking works to our entire basement the process took 3 weeks they showed us how each step of the project worked from the Strip out to the installation of a new Damp proof course and membrane figments then the final plastering all done neatly professionally and at a good price.

The home report we got done marked the damp as a 3. We contacted Kingston Preservation to ask if they could help. They provided a report identifying the areas needing treatment. They then did the job and provided a certificate of guarantee, which enabled the home report to be reduced to a 1. This was a great assistance to us in selling our property. Very professional service—would recommend and use again.

We noticed damp on the walls in our Holiday Let Flat in North Berwick. Timing to do the job in between lets was critical as there as there was only a three-day window to get the works done. Kingston completed the job on time. Very clean workmen, and their plasterer was also very good. We could have no hesitation in using this company again.

Excellent company!
My house had suffered with damp for years but I had never been financially in a position to do anything about it. Kingston Preservation offered a very competitive quote following a thorough inspection of the premises. The work was carried out at the end of June 2023 and the team were courteous, respectful of the house and it's furnishings, extremely diligent and efficient and had completed the job within two days and to an excellent standard. I didn't want to write a review till a few months had gone by, but we have had continual wet weather and torrential rain storms since and I am delighted to say the walls area all still bone dry! Can't recommend this company enough. Excellent job. Thank you!
This company will never let you down
This is the 3rd occasion that we have called Kingston Preservation to carry out major works to our property located at Edinburgh’s New Town.
Our property is on a Short Let Listing and is being managed by a reputable Letting Agency in Edinburgh.
We were in Dubai for a family visit when our Agency notified us that there is a very heavy smell of dampness from the living room.
We immediately contacted Kinston Preservation (Stuart) from Dubai and explained the situation. Stuart took immediate ownership of this critical issue, coordinated with the Agency to gain access to the property.
Stuart carried out an in-depth survey of the property and suspected a burst pipe in the bathroom as the source of the severe dampness on the affected living room wall.
He proposed a two phase approach for dealing with this issue. Phase 1 involved identification and elimination of root cause and Phase 2 involved carrying out the remedial work to return the property back to its original state.
We had to cancel the booking for March and April. Stuart understood the urgency of this issue, mobilised his resources with a target to complete the work as soon as possible.
Stuart managed to complete Phase 1 of the repair work very quickly and stopped any further damage to our property.
As the drying up process on the damp wall was slow, Stuart’s proposed solution was to remove the old plaster, fit damp proof membrane, fit 12.5 plaster board on top of the membrane and plaster the wall. I accepted his proposal and he manged to mobilise his resources and completed the whole work in two days at a very reasonable cost.
We have on all occasions been impressed and very satisfied with the work carried out by Stuart and his team at Kingston Preservation. Notably, their rapid response and highly professional approach; commitment to quality workmanship; trust and reliability and ‘can-do’ attitude.
Thanks to Stuart and his team for coming to the rescue at such short notice with yet another critical issue.
Avoid at all costs
Waterproofing of 4 basement cellars completed in late 2017. Leaks in 3/4 within a matter of weeks.
Numerous workmen visited to fix the problem - only after repeated calls, however, and with each new worker blaming the previous one for the leaks not being fixed.
Calls and letters were eventually ignored and we now have completely unusable cellars, the contents of which were ruined by mould.
Our neighbour also used the company to work on their cellars, some of which have also leaked and calls to rectify ignored.
Useless cellars, useless guarantee, useless company.
Also interesting that similar negative reviews from pre-2020 seem to have disappeared…

TERRIBLE!
My experience is the same as others I have read here and on Facebook. 15 year guaranty/warranty isn't worth paper it's written on. I've lost track of the number of times they have returned to rectify one cellar (the other is fine) and it's still damp. Stuart McAlpine does not return calls. He responded to one text message on 1/9 to say they were all on furlough, which couldn't be true because one of his workmen picked up keys from me in order to make good on the reappearing damp. He hasn't returned my keys or responded to my requests for them. Police and Trading Standards next.

Poor quality work & worthless guarantee
Kingston Preservation “damp proofed” our cellar a few years ago. We now have so much mould on walls and stored items that we will have to stop using the space. Despite numerous phone calls, emails and messages, they have not replied. The guarantee is useless. Charlatans.
UPDATE May 23 - No response to multiple messages but have spoken to Kingston staff working at other sites in the area and been promised that our work would be rectified but nothing has happened.
