The drink system has been a shambles…

The drink system has been a shambles for years. Other garden centres bring drinks to tables. There they serve drinks work till it's ridiculous the delays. Unless the new part changes that but doubt it. I also don't like the man on till. He is way over the top frivilous then on the other hand he can be snappy and loud. Not happy with him.

Just visited the garden centre today

Just visited the garden centre today, and having visited this garden centre for 15+ years, today so disappointed. It was cold, cramped, the restaurant was so noisy and cramped. The food very poor. 7 scampi few chips and a meagre portion of peas , my friend had a quiche with salad, tasteless. What has happened to this garden centre. Get your act together. Would be an idea if staff went to Gilberdyke or Hornsea, friendly, good food good ambience, and less inflated prices. Never going again.

Leave well alone.

This garden centre is now The British garden centre. The staff are terrible and the plants die within a few weeks. We have been customers of this centre for many years but never again. We spoke to a member of staff who informed us go to another shop he was leaving in 2 weeks because of the way it is now run.

Amazing

Visiting this garden centre is a truly amazing experience. The staff are always around to answer your questions and the manager of the plants is very knowledgeable.
Had the steak pie on this occasion I can highly recommend it. The desserts are beautiful but you need to share as they are very generous portions.
Spoke to Dan today and he was very helpful.

Expert knowledge of all plant life!!!

Well clearly they must be getting some things wrong as there seem to be a lot of very poor reviews but I can't fault them. Whilst Langlands is not the cheapest garden centre by any stretch, I know that you will never get more expert advice about plants anywhere than you will get from these guys as what they don't know about plants is simply not worth knowing! It's been a while since I bought anything here but historically the things that I have bought have always been great quality. Thank you

Awaiting a refund after 2 weeks

After waiting 44 minutes for my food to come and it being wrong I am still waiting for a refund 2 weeks after.
What a shambles of a management
You don’t deserve to be in business

After reading your response I can see that you haven’t looked into this properly. I didn’t bully anyone verbally or online at all and your cctv will prove that if you care to watch it.
I was there alone and not with my wife. Did you actually watch any cctv????
I didn’t demand the food and refund the waitress said she would refund it and make me another. It was only when she asked Tom he refused.
The principle of the matter is I waited 44 minutes to get the wrong meal to be told I could then have a replacement meal and refund this didn’t happen.
You either know the facts and are covering for your inept staff or you are lying.
As for deformation where and when was this supposed to have happened?
I refused to come back to your garden centre so making me not welcome just shows how you conduct your business.
I wholeheartedly agree the staff shouldn’t be abused and I never did.
If you would like yo discuss the matter you can call me or email me but I have a feeling this won’t happen either.
I am still awaiting my refund after 18 days.
To say the customer service I have received is second class is an understatement and not deformation.
I trust you will sort this out asap please

Reply from Langlands Garden Centres

Dear Mr Furness, Whilst I appreciate the time you spent on sharing your experience I need to point out these are not reviews.
Please, accept my apology for the delayed response. The management conducted a thorough investigation, including interviewing the assistant manager Tom and the store manager, and some of the other witnesses of the event, and took the CCTV footage into account. Whilst we understand there was a mistake made on the garden centre's behalf in bringing the incorrect version of your order, staff did offer to rectify this and also offered you and your wife complimentary beverages whilst you were waiting for your correct order to be made, which you refused and demanded to get the correct meal AND a refund as well.
In regards to the refund, it was processed through the till which our store manager provided you a copy of in his email and explained the delay is down to the merchant banks, however our IT department has informed us there is currently an issue with refunds so subsequently Worldpay has not processed the refund of £8.95 to you due to a technical issue not through our fault which is currently being looked at by the IT. So I can confirm you are indeed still entitled to this money returned, I will contact IT and get an update and put an urgency on this. Hopefully, this can all be done on-line as are you are no longer welcome.
We do not take bullying our staff on and offline light-heartedly and we have a strict anti-bullying policy, also the right and obligation to investigate harassment, bullying and defamation.
Regards,
Cecilia Hall

Went for something to eat at Langland…

Went for something to eat at Langland garden centre near shiptonthorpe York. Bought 2 sandwiches, 2 scones 1 with jam 1 with jam and cream pot of tea, £27 the cheese and spring onion sandwich was absolute rubbish and didn’t resemble cheese, obviously out of a pot of processed mayo mixed with tiny bits of cheese and don’t know where the onion was.the scones tasted of bicarbonate and crumbled into pieces and left a terrible taste in our mouths. Absolute poor standard of food for the price and for somewhere like Langlands won’t be eating there again

What a shame

Such a shame, I have been taking my mum here for years for a coffee and a Cherry scone ( which were renowned) the last few times we’ve been the scones are nowhere near as nice , they used to have full cherries in and now the cherries are chopped so small you can’t taste them at all which makes the scone very dry. Today we saw a few actually left on plates uneaten.
Such a shame as the staff are brilliant and so hard working but we probably will be finding somewhere else in future

I used to love the garden centre at…

I used to love the garden centre at Shiptonthorpe and visited regularly (every 2 weeks) with my sister & niece. We’d have breakfast, buy items from the deli area - cakes, scotch eggs, pies etc - and often pick up gifts, plants and shrubs.

Unfortunately quality and consistency significantly declined after the covid lockdown. As an example, Eggs Benedict were on the menu as being served with ham (as they should be), but were usually served with bacon instead with no explanation or apology. Items in the deli were often less fresh than in the past, or not available.

Prices have also been hiked numerous times in the last 12 months, to the point that it is now unaffordable. We last visited 2 weeks ago to find the cafe menu had changed yet again to accommodate huge price increases. A cup of tea is now £2.75, and that is literally for one cup as they don’t fill the teapot or provide extra hot water. The menu included 2 eggs with bloomer bread toast at £6.95 - we ordered poached eggs but they were served with one very small thin piece of toast from a sliced loaf. When we queried this we were told they’d run out of bloomer bread. Frankly, for £6.95, it was a rip off. Extras, such as a small pot of beans, were £1.45 each. Breakfast with drinks for 3 people that used to cost around £20 cost £34, and wasn’t very good.

They’ve also changed the layout of the garden centre, so instead of entering through a gift and sundries area you’re now greeted with packet seeds and weed killer etc. Just not as welcoming.

Needless to say we won’t bother going back and will be visiting other local garden centres, where the price increases have been more reasonable and quality is better and more consistent, instead.

Such a shame as Langlands had always been our ‘go to’ garden centre

No gravy

my wife and I had called in to langlands garden center for our Sunday lunch as we had done on many occasions,we ordered two beef dinners which came thirty minutes later the food was warm not hot the gravy was a transuant liquid certainly not gravy ,my wife complained about the gravy to the waitress who took away the gravy and never came back with any response my wife had to leave her Sunday as she could not eat without gravy.so we left as my wife is ill and she as to eat regularly because of her medical condition. Once back at home I telephone langlands asking to speak to the manager and was told that they would ring me back which of course they did not. I will never go back to that place again and will tell everyone I know about my bad experience

Top place

Called into the garden centre near Leeds on our way back from a weekend away, a good range of plants, sheds, furniture.
The prices seem reasonable worth a visit

What quality service is all about

Purchased the Kaemingk London black hanging egg chair online.

Great value including delivery.

Contacted by telephone on the afternoon I placed the order and offered delivery the next day if it was convenient.

Delivery accepted for next day, asked where we wanted components of chair placed, this was inside the house and done with courtesy.

Great communication throughout, excellent service and value for money.
