Easy to book with and picked up from the airport within 15 minutes straight forward rental exactly what I wanted car was full of fuel and when we dropped it back off all driven back to airport fantastic service

Everything worked perfectly. The car was well equipped, pick-up and drop-off worked quickly.

Hassle free shuttle to car and back took out full insurance with them full peace of mind when driving hassle free drop of even though it was 5 in the morning

Great communication and fantastic service, easy to find shuttle bus just outside airport to take you to your car .drop off in the same place and shuttle bus was there to take us back to the airport. Really easy to find would definitely use them again and highly recommend 👌

Booked a 4x4 from Lava cars, as they included insurance's and seemed competitive. The communication before collecting the car was excellent, including a video of how to find your way through the airport to the curtesy bus. The whole hire process was straight forward, without any hassles. It's worth pre-entering license and payment details prior to speed up car collection. It's probably worth using the N1 petrol station by Lava cars as they seem a cheaper than stations in Reykjavík.

Easy pick up from the airport, to picking up the car all within 20mins, quick sign of the paperwork, check the car and on the road within 10 mins of collecting the keys, very affordable & professional all around from the staff, friendly and with a smile on their face's.
will be booking again for 2026 Summer trip.

The company is very well organised you get a quick pick up and drop off at the airport no waiting at all. We had a Dacia Duster what you see on line is what you get, no hidden extras all insurance was included and the price was by far the best that i could find in Iceland.

Pre-arrival driving tips were very useful, I chose Lava because they had good info about winter driving online. Airport shuttle came to find us quickly after I phoned. Video instructions are not helpful when travelling with limited phone. I felt the car had not been checked thoroughly because of couple minor issues. But we were very happy with the choice of car for our trip. Pick up & drop off were efficient. Staff seemed to be working very hard, one person doing everything including shuttle & phone.

After much research, we booked with Lava Car Rentals for our week in Iceland. Took full insurance coverage (shouldn't even be an option really as it is the wisest decision you can make for your Iceland trip). SUV (Dacia Duster) was great, seamless pickup and delivery (via quick door to door shuttle service from airport to nearby Lava office). Friendly staff. 100% recommend.

Great service and the team. The car was clear and prepared for our trip. We took a Tesla, be sure you have enough battery charge before start your trip.

It will be good, if the company will build up some kind of carports, it will save time for the customers and will not require to clear the snow winter time (we lost 30-50 minutes).

I ended up choosing Lava because they were one of the very few places that said that a passport isn't needed for renting. I was mostly happy with my decision but didn't have any huge problems with the car so I don't know how they work in that case.
A few nits, though
- the pick up shuttle from the airport took a bit longer than advertised
- the car's manual was only in German for some reason so I had to google certain things
- the high beams were either not up to their task (too dim) or not correctly set up

Vehicle was top and with studded tires ... after 15 minutes the shuttle bus arrived at the airport to pick us up and unfortunately no one answered the phone when we tried to reach the shuttle driver... the vehicle was in great condition when we cleared it of snow and found it in the parking lot.. :-)

Best rental company from my experience so far. You do not need a credit to make the booking and can pay additional cost so you don’t need to pay any additional cost when you collect the car. We opted for the full premium option which was a great decision, because when we brought the car back it somehow how an accident happened while the car was parked. But we were all covered which was relief. The service pickup and drop was also straightforward too.

Reliable local car rental company . The car was clean and almost new. the rental price are good. I suggest this company if you plan a visit in Iceland.

OK local car hire. The shuttle arrived after about 20 minutes for pick up and drop off. It took longer picking the car up than hoped, despite having provided all the information and payment prior to arrival to support a speedy collection. The reason for this was not having the car I had rented. I was ‘upgraded’ to a bigger car and hybrid. I wasn’t asked if this was ok. I was unsure about driving a bigger car and was not told how to charge the plug in hybrid (so ended up driving it on petrol only). I was not shown the car, or how it worked, but told it was ‘somewhere over there’. The car itself was great overall and my fears about getting it into the tight garage were unfounded (although it was a bit stressful each time).

I think the company are good with helpful communications prior to arriving. It's true there is a shuttle bus from the airport to their pick up area though somehow, even though I followed their video and stood in the right place, I had to go back into the airport after 20 minutes to get WiFi so I could phone and say I was waiting. Not sure if this was my or their error.
I would have liked a little bit more handover re: the car because I am not an experienced driver abroad and have a manual 22 yr old car in UK so the modern bells and whistles ones are a bit daunting at first. I did get help eventually after I asked.
Overall, would still recommend this company.

I had a great experience with Lava Car Rental from start to finish. Prices were better than other companies, airport pick-up was prompt, and communication before and during my rental period was terrific. I would definitely rent through Lava again.

Friendly staff, who were extremely helpful. Booked a budget car and was upgraded and car was clean and was perfect for our needs. Shuttle to and from airport was quick and checking in and out was fast and smooth, no hard sell of extras. Would definitely recommend!
