Awful

Awful, just awful. I rarely leave golf reviews but for Lingfield to be accepting money for people to play this course at the moment isn't right. As we got a Hot Deal we got off lightly but it's not any green fee price at the moment. Usually a very good course but today the greens were extremely sandy and barren, fairways nothing but patchy mud and little grass and in all honestly it felt like you were trying to play in a ploughed field not a golf course. Back 9 slightly better than front 9 but that's not saying much. Yes all courses are in need of some rain at the moment and work sometimes need to be done but this felt like no greenkeepers are employed at Lingfield anymore. At the very least put down course condition on the website so people can make a decision. Hope it improves as it was a good course.

A Winter Raceday ruined …

A group of us having paid £85 per head to include lunch in the Main Grandstand Restaurant were ushered into a makeshift hospitality suite. NOTE - one our party was an invalid and the exterior lift was not working. It was cold - we were told we could sit anywhere ? The bar had no draft beer the bottles that were available were not cold - Guinness was in cans - we were told we would get a bacon roll ??? None arrived !! Those that complained were eventually moved to the Main Restaurant where there were plenty of tables available. Although there was a Christmas Dinner Carvery we were advised that we would be served personally. Over an hour later still no lunch we were told we would be getting Beef. When it eventually arrived Braised Beef in a Sauce half of our party couldn't eat it. They were eventually served a Chicken dinner which they said was the leftovers and not very nice and most left it. By now the kitchen was pretty much closed but we were offered a Pudding or Cheese and Biscuits. We then waited for so long that we told them not to bother - the last race just about to go off. We left feeling seriously let down even though it has to be said that the staff were very professional and tried to make us feel better throughout. Management need to take this complaint seriously but I doubt if we will be back ?

Expensive and not for families

29th March 2024 was advertised as an Easter Family event of Horse Racing and family entertainment, it was a huge let down and had nothing linked to Easter and was anti Family.

Having already paid a high amount for tickets (yes Kids go free - plus), you arrive to multiple security staff with the sole purpose of being unwelcoming and stopping families in their tracks. Those bringing chairs were sent back to their cars. Those with picnics of food and drink were told to either to take it back to their cars or leave it there. On pointing out that all we had brought was snacks and squash drinks for our under 6 we were told that they had been given tough rules to stick to that no food and drink was allowed in. At a time of cost of living crisis, this is awful. You expect to pay for food and drink but to be forced to pay outrageous amounts to feed your family is one thing but on top of this they did not collect the confiscated food to be taken to a food bank… they threw it all in wheelie bin!!

It was busy, and queues are expected but this was manic and they should have limited ticket sales. Obviously they did not as needed to cram in as many as possible to make as much money on the gate and through food/drink sales. This caused lengthy queues at all times for the limited number of toilets.
The main areas were packed and unwelcoming to families who stayed to the outer edges or by the small amount of family entertainment put on. No Easter themed events or decorations. You wouldn’t know it was Easter.
The limited rides for young children (not aimed at 8+) was poor.
Most drink kiosks did not sell squash or other non fizzy drinks, managed to eventually find 2 locations but one sold out when I bought their last stock at midday. Still 5 plus hours to keep
Children hydrated.
So having had to give up family picnics, to feed a family of 4 you needed to pay over the odds for food and drink, making this an unwelcoming and expensive family day out.
Horse racing at this Lingfield event was aimed at those that can afford to attend or leave their family behind.

Stick to the betting shop!

Rum 'n' Reggae
Searched like a prisoner at the door. Food was very poor and extortionately expensive and to cap it all the band played for 40 minutes and the bar closed at 10pm. Couldn't even buy an ice cream.
A lousy day out and won't be doing it again

Had a great day at the races … hotel…

Had a great day at the races … hotel stay not so great! Had to be moved room because tv wasn’t working. In new room the bed was very ‘lumpy’, I’ve come home with a very stiff back! Dip in middle of mattress too, obviously doesn’t get turned, now needs replacing. Also no drinking water in the room, something I would expect when paying £239 for one night!

Worst I’ve stayed in

Really poor attitude of guest service staff. They just don’t care. Outdated hotel. Really noisy bar and rooms directly above it the patio means you can’t enjoy the peaceful area. Wasp nest meant you can’t enjoy the balcony.
I’ve never left a hotel without staying the whole allotted time before, but did with this one. This wins the prize for worst ever I’ve stayed in.
Seriously, don’t bother

Never again

Booked a race day for my partners 40th birthday and they decided to cancel it 2 days before we are due to go! Not only that when I asked for a refund they tried to get me to transfer it to another day ( my partner won’t be 40 another day). I also got told my refund will take 7-10 days to process which means I can’t book anything else! Furious is not the word. Will never book anything with these again.
