No care for animal welfare

My school used this company to do chick hatching. The company was very poor with responding to emails. We reached out a number of times to try and get information on what to expect upon arrival and they couldn't even give us a time they'd be arriving. Within the 2 weeks we had the eggs/chicks, we reached out to the company's advice line with questions. They answered the phone with "they're your chicks, what do you expect us to do?" Unfortunately we had two very poorly chicks. The company told us to "refer to the handbook". The handbook said to "dislocate their necks". I just cannot comprehend how a company who claims to care about animals actually expects a person to just casually kill an animal with their bare hands. No training, no care to see if the animal can be saved, nothing! The company also doesn't care what happens to the healthy chicks. They are not bothered about where they go and didn't question us when we said we found someone to take them. If you don't mind having to kill poorly animals, then this company is for you! If you have morals, I would 100% go with a more reputable company who care about their animals.

Living eggs - sad and traumatic experience

Living eggs has shown no care or compassion for the programme they run or the chicks that they supply for hatching. 8 out of our 10 eggs hatched but unfortunately 3 of the chicks had issues with leg deformities. This meant that they were unable to stand, move and pull their heads and bodies off the floor. These chicks where therefore unable to eat or drink by themselves and progressively got worse. I was desperate to help them but as I am not a bird expert, I needed some help.
I called the 'advice line' numerous times and was sadly not given any advice, help or compassion. They responded with ' what do you expect me to do, it's a Friday afternoon', 'they're your chicks now, they're in your care', 'you should have read the terms and conditions'. They offered no help, even after i expressed my fear and sadness of watching them suffer. I couldn't stand back and watch this. It was so so sad and this company did not care about the welfare of the eggs that they had given to us for this hatching experience. Our eggs were also delivered very late on the Monday afternoon - there was no urgency or consideration to how long the eggs where kept bouncing around in their care and therefore this could have affected the hatching.
After going back through the booklet, I found a page that said 'if you have a sick chick, you should put it down, the best way to do this is to dislocate its neck'.
THIS INFORMATION SHOULD BE STATED BEFORE YOU GET THE CHICKS! It should be stated that Living eggs do not care about the chicks and even though leg issues are apparently 'common' they would rather you kill them then try and help them. This is also a lot to expect from somebody to just dislocate 3 chicks necks and kill them, again, without any support from the company.
Moreover, Livingeggs also don't care where the chicks go at the end of the experience and they encourage us to find homes for them. They don't vet the homes or ask about them and so the chicks could be going anywhere. They really do not care about these animals - this company is sadly a huge money making scheme with no consideration of the negative impact they are making to these poor animals and the schools involved. I will never do this experience again.
