Travelling from Australia, it is striking how West End productions truly stand apart. The overall quality of the cast and staging is exceptionally high. Of course, no performance is entirely without its small slips or imperfections, yet this audience will have left captivated by the on-stage story, particularly the dynamic tension between Burr and Hamilton. Burr’s narration throughout is articulated with playful clarity, he orchestrates the story driving with pace and tone. Each Schuyler sister brought a distinct and creative energy to her role, with notes and compliments easily shared for each, however will pause for special mention to Penny, who delivered a deeply emotional performance, especially in her second role as Mrs Reynolds. On this night, however, one performance rose above the rest. Jefferson’s solos were strong, clear, and commanding. He filled the theatre with presence and fully embodied the larger than life aura of Jefferson’s character. After years, this is still a performance worthy of its original creator and the global fan base 9/10
