Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the product, specifically compost, finding it to be of poor quality. Customers frequently reported issues such as the compost being soaking wet, having an unpleasant odor, and containing foreign objects like plastic, glass, stones, and twigs. Many also experienced poor germination and growth of their plants, with some even losing plants or having to repot them with different soil. Some people also felt that the compost lacked water-holding capacity, requiring more frequent watering and resulting in dark, staining liquid draining from pots. Reviewers expressed strong disappointment and stated they would not purchase these products again.

Rubbish in a Bag

Rubbish in a Bag.
Miracle Gro compost was a trusted product. I purchased 6 bags from Wicks and all bags are no better than mulch , it looks like the product failed the composting process and hasn’t broken down. The bags are soaking wet as if they have been submerged or the composting process was waterlogged, the moisture is very black and stains hands. The smell is also off more like Farm Manure, the seeds I planted in this product all failed. In all my years I’ve never seen anything so bad it makes DIY store product look great.

Do not use

Miracle Grow M P Compost. Although I sieved the compost and watered with dilute liquid seaweed the germination was very poor as was any (if any) further growth. What survived I had to transfer to a different brand.

Bought Lemington essential compost

Bought Lemington essential compost, the most awful compost I ever used. It is rough, there is mold on it, does not hold the water and stinks. Will never buy again, wasted money. This goes into the green bin right away.

This is truly the worst product I’ve…

This is truly the worst product I’ve bought. My house is covered in gnats. And there was all sorted of insects in the bag too. Terrible product. I’m now trying to treat all my plants to get rid of them. The next thing I’ll have to do is clean out all my pots and again and start all over at this rate

Good grief; how bad are they?

Good grief; 92% one star reviews; they must be terrible. My beef is the ridiculous claim that their 43x63x8 cm bags hold 40 litres of compost. The maths suggests 21 litres. So are we all being conned? No doubt they will say that the material is compressed… however no matter how loose the compost is made it will never expand to 40 litres… except under some special Levington magic I suppose.

Levington and Tomorite: avoid

Lovethegarden represents Levington and Tomorite compost brands. Having contacted them about substandard product, they declared that their horticulturalist found nothing wrong.

They must have special powers to do so from a distance.

So: avoid Levington composts. Avoid Tomorite grow bags. They are not fit for purpose. Spread the word.

Do not believe the lies!

Whenever so called horticulturalists sell online they use terminology like " Grass greener in 5 days" . Well, that's just pure lies. In 2 months it's stayed the same. Try sending what you have left to them and get a refund. You have no chance in Hell ! When they STEAL money from all of us for the lies they publish online who's to blame ? Us or the authorities ? The horticultural World sell with LIES .

Utterly horrible soaking wet lumpy muck full of thousands of worms and grubs.

Used Miracle Grow for many years but now it is the worst compost I have ever bought! Utterly horrible soaking wet lumpy muck full of thousands of worms and grubs. Smells disgusting like poo and riddled with pieces of glass, blue plastic bags and thick sticks. Useless for seeds or hanging baskets.
Obviously straight from the council recycling centre just like the cheapest supermarket stuff only 4 times the price. Never ever going to buy Miracle Grow again. Not worth half a star!

Miracle Gro Compost not the sam ise this year

I have used Miracle Gro compost for years with no problems & it has produced lovely tomatoes & flowers in tubs & hanging baskets. As usual I bought numerous bags of compost this years to find the texture is different. It has no water holding capacity. Is straw like so that water passes straight through. Therefore I need to water more often than usual. Even worse the water that comes out from pots & baskets is a dark black liquor which stains walls, flags etc. Sorry but I will not be purchasing your compost next year which I regret having used it for so many years.

Levingtons compost

Like others on this site, I bought Levingtons compost and found bits of plastic in it. I wrote to Levingtons - yes, guess what, no email address, complaints process or phone number on their web site; I wonder why? - and asked for a refund. A month later and you'll not be surprised to learn I haven't had a reply. Avoid them like the plague.

Miracle Gro Patch Magic

I bought Miracle Gro Patch Magic two 1Kg tubs to repair a few bald patches on my lawn. Followed the instructions to the letter with frequent waterings and plenty of care. Absolute waste of money. Nothing grew, nothing noticeable anyway. Need to try again with another product - there'll be another review to follow, hopefully a positive one.

Never again

I brought the miracle grow potting compost for my house plants, I had an infestation of fungas gnats, could not get rid of them no matter what I tried, had to repot all my plants with new soil, same thing happened, lost a few of my plants, read a lot of reviews with people saying the same, repotted them again with a different compost have
had no problems since. Would not use this product again

Wish I could leave zero stars

Wish I could leave zero stars!
I contacted this company via the website to complain about multiple pieces of plastic in the topsoil I purchased. Email automatic response said they would reply within 2 working days. It has now been 8 working days and no reply! Appalling, would never purchase such a poor quality product, from a company that clearly doesn’t care, again.

Full of stones!

I bought Levingtons Peat Free multi purpose compost and it has A LOT of stones in it. I wish I could attach photos! Not at all happy. Also, I cannot see how to complain to them - no email contact. Really unhappy.

A Poor Compost From A Leading Brand.

This compost is the worst I've experienced in over 40years of gardening.
However, if your dream compost is one that full of large twigs, small stones, plastic, small nails and broken glass, then this is the one for you.
