Overpowering ammonia smell
Overpowering ammonia smell. This is not fit for growing in. It may be made from organic matter but smells like that matter is from dog waste. Nothing is growing in it, it is killing seedlings off and attracting flies.
Killed all our seedlings
I wish that we had read these reviews before using this compost to plant out our sweet pea seedlings. They were thriving until we potted them on using this compost. Within a day they had all wilted, we tried to revive them but to no avail. They are all now dead.
I don't even know where to start..avoid…
I don't even know where to start..avoid buying this so called compost at all costs!
I bought few bags from Range to plant my hydrangeas and other plants in my new made flower bed.
First when I was opening the bag I noticed that the compost is very grey/mold colour and it smells really bad of animal faeces but I carried on planting thinking it's normal for organic compost to be like that.
My the time I finished and watered my newly made flower beds the smell was so bad I couldn't sit in the garden for more than 10 minutes! I am not exaggerating!
Next afternoon came back to check on my plants only to find out the soil is full of disgusting yellow dung flies! There are thousands of them right now on my plants and in my flower bed laying eggs and swarming in the soil. I just don't know what to do, to remove my expensive plants that I planted and remove the disgusting compost or to wait and see what happens next. The flies are truly disgusting, I suspect there were eggs or larvae already in the compost.
I honestly don't know how are they allowed to sell something like that it should be illegal as my flower beds are now infested and infected with god knows what and the smell is horrendous.
I am going back to the Range to place a complaint about it and I hope that no-one buys this so called organic compost full of s... t and infestation.
I have never complained about compost…
I have never complained about compost before, I reported 24 tomato seedlings at the weekend in this compost, two varieties of which I have no seeds left. Every plant is dead, The ones in the homegrown compost in a tray are still alive. This compost smells so bad like a combination of horse manure and petrol. It was a grey colour in parts in the bag. This was purchased from the Range.
Fine but STINKS
It does just fine to.top up beds and outdoor pots but it's absolutely stinks! Of all my years home gardening and allotment I've never come across a smellier compost. How does it even get like this????
This compost and topsoil has been great…
This compost and topsoil has been great for topping up my new garden allotment beds. We put in 5 very large beds and managed to get them really full using manure from the local stables and about 30 bags of supagrow to top it all off. On one of the beds I also added 4 bags of topsoil to give the soil more structure. We managed all of this for next to nothing, and it was a great growing season.
Hope you see more bags in stock this year at Wilko!

Just waste not compost
For those who want to complain about this compost, it's no use to email their customer service or sales department. Instead, try the Of&G organic website and look for the PAS certification. There is an email address there for the certification body and maybe they will investigate the issues with this compost.

Have had SupaGrow compost and topsoil…
Have had SupaGrow compost and topsoil quite a number of times. This year's batch of compost is absolutely dreadful. Smells very like leylandi cuttings and is FULL of plastic, stones, sticks, polystyrene and broken glass. Will not be buying this product again. Will be looking for receipts to see if I can return what hasn't been opened. Put some in the garden with flower seeds and nothing has germinated. Shocking and unacceptable quality supposed to be "organic".

Plants died…
All my tomato seedings which were growing well in seed compost died the day after I potted them o n into the potting compost I bought from the range. I then did an experiment. Six seeds into my seed sowing mix potted on 3 into the Range compost mix and 3 into an alternative compost from another compost( it was B &,Q) which normally wouldn't use. The Range ones died within 2 days an the others are thriving. I have now lost all my specialist F1 tomatoes which I cannot replace

The worst compost I have ever come…
The worst compost I have ever come across. It killed various seedlings that I potted on using it (cosmos, chilli plants, zinnia, phlox) and killed off all the radish I put in it in a raised bed.
When discarding the seedlings, the smell of the compost with horrific. It was thick and smelt of sewage.
There were also random bits of glass and metal in the compost.
Please avoid this product!!

I terrible stench
I bought 4 bags of the organic compost from the range as it was very reasonable, however it absolutely stinks. What is in this stuff! Going to have to take it back as I can’t have that around my dog. Very disappointed. I would appreciate confirmation from Supagrow that this is safe for people & animals to be around.

Awful stuff
Awful stuff. From the stench that comes from it for the first few days down to the mixture and the growth if plants. It doesn't hold moisture doesn't feel like compost at all and has killed several plants of mine. Highly disappointed and won't be buying again and do not reccomend anyone else to purchase it just because it's cheap! It's worth spending that bit more.

Truly awful compost
Just as many others have pointed out this really isn't very good soil. Luckily I hadn't actually planted many plants at all yet and therefore may have saved myself a lot of money but I noticed my one plant that normally is super easy and particularly low maintenance most years suddenly looks very lifeless as soon as I had planted it in this soil. I therefore investigated and had come across these reviews, it's obviously not an isolated event. Please do not buy this soil just because it is cheap.

This killed my plants too
Unfortunately like the previous reviewer's experience, this also killed my plants. I recently purchased 4 bags of this compost last weekend and was excited to pot on my plants that I had nurtured from seed. Within days they've dried and died. All my hard work has been undone. I suspect there are sterilising chemicals in this compost to keep it weed free that is also kiling plants, rendering it 'NOT fit for purpose'. The texture of the soil appeared good, I used a sieve and there werent many bits however the colour was much darker than usual compost. I wish I had checked reviews before buying. To the manufacturer: I still have the bags and can provide batch numbers and photographic evidence if it helps.

Zero star rating
Zero star rating. Purchased a bulk order last year. On opening the bags there was an awful smell, a mixture of fire ashes and chemicals. Killed the plants I potted on ( including some expensive ferns ). Horrible texture, no body at all. Vile stuff, I don't know how this stuff is still on sale. Avoid at all costs
