We booked our Vow Renewal at the castle…

We booked our Vow Renewal at the castle exactly 34 years do the day, they made it so special for us the garter room was an amazing location and the staff, food and service were brilliant. They made our special day even better than we could of ever expected. We stayed in the King James Suite which was fantastic and many of our guests stayed in the courtyard. The whole team at Lumley Castle made this a perfect event that we will never forget. I would gladly recommend the Castle to everyone.

First class all round

My beloved father died just before the trip. The hotel DECLINED me a cancelation! Heartbreaking!

I will NEVER set foot in this hotel again. I asked to cancel, my trip, as my father died just before it. The hotel DECLINED, and took £250 from my account, and the £49 for the medieval banquet as well. As if the loss of my beloved father was not bad enough. Heartbreaking! Disgraceful! Disgusting!!!!!! Cold and Compassionless!!!!

Disappointing

Booked the castle restaurant for my 60th Birthday family meal 6 adults 2children, got seated next to the door so quite cold, got stung with the bottled water straight away then meals were served in very large bowls with very little food for the cost & amount was shocking, the children’s menu was quite poor, paid the bill then later realised they hadn’t taken off the deposit I had paid a month earlier, phoned up had to wait for manager to call me but no response for 4 hours so phoned again, get refunded from lady in Accounts 3-5 days but no apology from the restaurant Manager….
Disgusting!

The Colman & Hogg family visit to the medieval banquet and…

We attended the medieval banquet and had an overnight stay in one of the courtyard rooms.
The castle and grounds are amazing.
The medieval banquet was very entertaining, the cast were hilarious and put on a great show.
The food was lovely and I was full to busting by the time the show finished.
There was a large selection at breakfast and I asked if they could do me some fried bread to go with my full English, and they did, outstanding.
The check in and check out was a pleasant experience. Andrew S was polite, helpful and quite funny.
At times it was a bit cold, dusty and noisy, but it is a castle after all. We enjoyed our stay.

Afternoon tea shocking sandwiches…

Afternoon tea shocking sandwiches freezing cold, bread damp and some how hard at the same time. The tiny cakes were the same and the scones were stale. I phoned to complain twice and was told to phone back which I did, eventually I spoke to a very pleasant lady, I explained the problems she was apologetic and asked if they could ring me back I said yes I’m still waiting but I didn’t really expect anyone to.

Absolutely appalling service this morning from the customer service team. Rang to book valentines night with the. Asked questions and they refused to answer, particularly more so about the entertainment that is being provided. The woman on the phone was rude and told me they could not provide me any information until after i had booked. So essentially wanting me to pay for non refundable tickets, to find out information that should be public anyway? No thanks

Been trying to contact Lumley Castle…

Been trying to contact Lumley Castle for weeks to book an afternoon tea that we have a voucher for.
Phone line cuts off no response from emails and apparently hotel closed for January- voucher expires before it opens up, why would they sell vouchers knowing that they are going to be closed for a month?
Very very disappointed

Great murder mystery event

I struggled between four and five stars for this review. I organised a party of 20+ to attend a murder mystery night for my 60th. The overall night was a huge success, the food and service was good and the actors did a really good job and everyone loved the venue.
The hotel did its very best to accommodate one of my party, who is in a wheelchair bearing in mind this is a castle and wasn’t built for disabled access. However their hotel disabled room does require a little bit more thought by the hotel.
There are a lot of cobbles and uneven surfaces.
Our party all stayed in the Courtyard rooms which were very well presented but as stated, outside in the courtyard. I am just thankful it wasn’t raining that night as there is a fair amount of walking outside!

The Events team did their best to accommodate the party and it did work out well in the end but had I lived nearer it would have been easier to have called into the Hotel to talk directly to the team as it wasn’t easy to understand how it was going to work on the night through the email communications.

I know the hotel has recently recently changed hands, but I do hope it continues as it’s a great venue and I will certainly be looking to attend other events there.

Fantastic

We booked a courtroom stay but they said we were upgraded, but one of the rooms was up the scariest part with an awful spiral stairway. So we asked for different room and got a state room which was huge and I slept ALL NIGHT ! went to divas on the dance floor night and the singer was good but didn’t know half the words. The food was absolutely delish ❤️
The only down fall is the bar it’s very very tiny and everyone had to wait to go in the room standing up.
Prices were expensive but what do you expect in a castle so we didn’t mind.
Overall I had a fantastic night just the bar area was a let down but you can’t please everyone
Also we love the reception fella he is an absolute credit to your place

Not special

Went to the restaurant for lunch on Sunday, a group of four. Arrived on time, shown to our table and ordered drinks. Friendly staff and all seemed OK, but glasses badly stained and the sunlight showed layers of dust on everything.
When the food arrived it was presented well but plates were cold and my partner had fish, which was cold when served.
The beef was good but not exceptional and the veg was fine, with good crispy roast potatoes, and extra veg served separately. Unfortunately the Yorkshire puddings were light and crispy but had a bitter burnt taste.
Puddings were nice but not special.
Overall the meal was not good value, as a better lunch could be obtained at any of the chain restaurants.

Making a killing.

A disappointing night at the Murder mystery evening.

It started with the outrageous prices they charge for drinks (£16 for a gin and mixer).

They've squeezed too many tables into a small space meaning that there's a constant rumble of people trying to move around to let people in and out to visit the toilet or get drinks.

Finally - the sound was so bad that it was difficult to make any sense of what was happening.

I don't suppose my comments will make any difference, people were packed in like sardines and paying OTT prices so I suppose the butler wasn't the only one making a killing.

(no spoiler, it wasn't the butler. or was it!)

No-one ever answers the phone!

I received a voucher for Grand Afternoon Tea for two as a gift. But trying to book the blimmin' tea is like trying to get blood from a stone. Not only does no-one EVER answer the phone, but when I try to book on their web site and enter the pre-paid voucher code, it is still asking me to enter my credit card details so they can take an additional 20 quid off me - surely the afternoon tea has already been paid for in full? I'm sure the afternoon tea is delicious but based on my experience so far I am not impressed.
EDIT: Called in person & made the booking. Had our afternoon tea yesterday. It was lovely. Therefore upgraded my 2-star review to 4-stars. Would have been 5 but for the frustration of trying to contact them.

We stayed as a treat celebrating my wifes 50th. She researched that if you
joined this express club you could have vouchers. The idea being you were allowed to use only one voucher. My wife chose free cocktails, but when we went to the desk we couldn't have them ( suprise suprise) as we had the "wrong package" in other words we havent spent enough on the stay. I thought this was a bit cheeky, we had also phoned a few times and never had anyone say anything. We stayed in the courtyard rooms for the murder mystery. They dont explain either where you go or how it works. We asked loads of times and found it in the end. The stairs to the room were steep and there was a ceiling beam in the room that was low and we both banged our heads on it! Dissapointing stay. Shame, we were looking forward to it. You have been warned!!

I took my mum and her grandsons for afternoon tea to celebrate her birthday.

I found the food to be quite stale and inedible. However, my son who is vegan claims his vegan tea was tasty.

I found the staff to be ok, a smile wouldn't go a miss though and the waitress wasn't too impressed when I showed her the lipstick stained glass on our table.

I wouldn't recommend the afternoon tea, mainly because the food wasn't pleasant.

Disgusting attitude

A friend of mines mum was due to have afternoon tea to celebrate her 80th birthday. Unfortunately she has cancer and had to rush into hospital. Lumley Castle are refusing to allow the tea to be re-arranged !!!! Cannot believe this uncaring attitude which will cost the lady around £300.

Had grand high tea for 4 £120 was very basic and in the cost of living crisis could have had 2 weeks worth of shopping- the grounds are lovely but the building is very tired and furniture full of Staines, glasses were filthy and not a lot of effort made! We have come home very blotted and feel very sick not impressed and would not recommend absolutely disgusting and ruined my birthday
