Walking in the Dolomites of Alta Badia was a once in a lifetime experience. Each day’s hike differed from the previous day’s hike. Each hike was beautiful in its own unique way.The accommodations were very comfortable. The food was amazing. There was nothing that could be improved upon.
Macs Adventure does a fabulous job booking accommodations that are not only well located along the way but also very comfortable. We have found during all 4 of our Macs treks that the owners of the bookings are very familiar with Macs and treat their hikers very well. All transfers on the WHW were perfectly timed. No waiting at all. We are currently booking an additional trek with Macs for 2023.
The Yorkshire Dales are beautiful. The route comprised the best parts of them. Macs support was top-notch.
This was our very first walking trip and we were lucky enough to pick Macs Adventure. They made it our best vacation ever with their help with accommodations, restaurants, and route guidance. Their App was amazing and they even booked taxis for us in remote areas. We had perfect weather, visited many historic sites, great views, and met some amazing people. Thanks Macs! We can't wait until our next trip!!!
First the phone map app was great. No paper maps or written instructions to fuss with. The 4-star hotel in Mirepoix was fantastic, my room was literally fit for a king and everyone treated me extremely well - especially the man (Bernard?) who drove me to some start-up points in his vintage Citroen. Finally the walks were all wonderful especially the walk to Montsegur. A high point literally and emotionally. Learned a lot of history about the Cathars also! It was such a good experience that I'm doing another Macs walk this Spring - Stage 1 of the Camino. I talked a friend into doing it with me!
This was our fourth Macs Adventure Hiking trip.We booked this moderate tour due to my recent achilles surgery - so I needed fewer daily miles than usual. Although there were a few days of intermittent rain, every day was beautiful - especially the boat rides on the Lakes in between the village trails. There is just something magical about lakes surrounded by mountains, and the delightful little towns and villages...so fun to explore. Everyone seemed happy to be out and about. Beautiful photo opportunities around every bend. We spent one afternoon enjoying the Hallstatt Salt Mine Tour - loved it! A great trip - as always with Macs.
The intimacy of the whole adventure. Small boat with only 17 passengers, 5 Crew and 2 Guides. All were so personal, happy, passenger oriented. Coupled with the beautiful island hopping and biking experience this trip couldn’t have been better. One of the last true bargains in adventure even for a 72 year old man!!!
Excellent service including keeping us up to date beforehand, comprehensive info to help plan our trip, wonderful accommodation and efficient baggage transfer. Would definitely recommend.
Words cannot possibly convey the lifetime of memories this trip brought. Jaw dropping. Our accommodations were great and all services were exactly as easy as advertised. Customer service was wonderful and everything in Switzerland just works so easily. We will be booking with Mac's again and looking forward to it. To give one small example of the wonder of this trip, I would normally take about 100 photographs on a week long trip and took over 1100 on this trip! Trails were easily marked and safe. Loved every moment!
Fantastic trip, well organised, met lovely people, nothing too much trouble for crew. Definitely do the trip again. Always felt safe, can’t speak too highly of everyone involved with the trip.
The information we were given from out initial enquiry to undertaking the walk was accurate and any questions were dealt with promptly. The accommodation was excellent, our luggage was always waiting for us and the walking was exactly as described - challenging in places but well worth the effort! Macs Adventures provided an excellent service throughout.
Well, first let me say that we lucked out with the weather...we had clear skies and perfect bike riding temperatures for the whole week (as opposed to the next week when those poor folks had pouring rain on one 1. Our specialist at Macs was amazing...so patient as some changes had to be made to our group and very knowledgeable. Our only hick-up at on the first day when the water levels prevented our barge from leaving from Passau. The email we got said busses would shuttle us to the new departure city and gave us 2 times for catching the shuttle. Fortunately we decided to go on the first shuttle which was good because it was actually the last shuttle. We would have been pretty frustrated if we'd chosen the 2nd one and discovered we'd missed it altogether. The barge was so much nicer than we had anticipated--the rooms were good, the staff was pleasant, the food was great (except the bagged lunches which left much to be desired. After day one, we all started taking bread, cheeses, meats, and fruit from the breakfast buffet to eat for our lunches), and the views as we sailed were fabulous. Our bikes were decent...they fit well, were well maintained, and waiting for us off the boat every morning. The trail maps were very good so we never got lost and each day we were surprised at how pleasant the trails were and how quickly the miles flew by. Every day the tour director did a presentation on the next day's ride and shared insights on what to expect. Because people on this tour came from all over the world, we were told he'd do one presentation in German and one in English. So, here's my one complaint...a couple of days he did them both at the same time--first he'd speak in German and then in English (he was very proficient in both languages) only the German listeners got twice the amount of information as the English listeners. He'd go on and on in German but then give us 2 sentences in English. And even when he did two separate sessions, he'd always do the German session first and he often appeared tired/bored/hurried when he then did the English session. Obviously he told us enough in English, but I would have appreciated a bit more enthusiasm. I did appreciate that he rode the route himself every day and left long enough after the rest of us to available if we had had problems on the trail. It was nice to have 2 days off the bikes (with options to ride if we had wanted to) to explore Budapest and Vienna. We did take advantage of the shore excursions that were available. They were so-so...it's always the luck of the draw with how good those kinds of tour guides will be. By far, this was a fun and well-planned adventure. The daily rides were a perfect length to have some time to explore the towns where the barge was waiting for us. I would definitely encourage others to experience this adventure!
Excellent route through some of Britain’s finest lanscapes. Excellent selection of lodgings by Macs and the luggage logistics was faultless.
We have utilized Mac's Adventure several times to organize our hiking adventures. We do the hiking they do the logistics. Recently, we hiked the Lech River Trail in Austria, it was great. Mac's coordinates everything from booking our accommodations, a detailed daily itinerary, hard copy and digital trail maps as well as luggage transfer. Their service makes our hiking experience worry free and exceptional.
We had a lovely trip. We were 2 couples who have traveled together before. Lots of fun, some challenging days, and lots of beautiful changing scenery. Accommodations were always good and meals delicious often served family style.
Macs Adventure provided the detailed itinerary and lodging arrangements for our extended trip around Scotland during September 2022. It was a great way to experience the entire country in a brief time period. There always was great communication and I would recommend this trip for anyone looking to immerse themselves in this magical country and its magnificent culture.....
This was the second time that I have used Macs Adventures. On both occasions, they have been absolutely superb;easy to book online, keeping me updated with arrangements, and the information pack with the map and information was very full and thorough. I walked the Dales way in September, and also used their app during the walk. It is possible if so inclined to use this without having to use any navigational skills, and therefore appreciate more the surrounding scenery. Luggage collection and transfer very efficient, no complaints about the accommodation booked. Part of the walk necessitated a taxi transfer and there were no problems.
All in all a very enjoyable holiday. This is the second time that I have used Macs Adventures, and would wholeheartedly recommend, and will definitely use them again in the future.
I have decided not to book with this company. I was looking at a holiday costing £840, they wanted a £380 single supplement.
If you add in flights and all the extras you would have paid £2000 for a 7 day break. If this was a 5 star break I would sort of understood, but it was a walking holiday, self guided.
I was shocked to read the bad review on here an sparked me to leave this great review for them. We booked a trip for the TMB July 2023 our contact responded back fast, answered all my questions. She did an amazing job booking out stops. We had amazing maps, books, reading material sent to our house. We also have a macs app to use with very detailed walking instructions with suggestions on lunch stops, history on the area.. you name it.. I would recommend them! I am a real person you can check out my Tripadvisor reviews under marieknowsbest.
