The worst company for rent a car!!They overcharged us after we returned the car for some damage we did not cause!!!We sent them our photos we took when we delivered the car, they apologized for their mistake....and we still wait to refund the money!!!For more than 6 months!!!They wrote that they had an issue in their system for refunds and we would wait for a month, over than six months gave passed and still waiting!!!Maggiore Bergamo-Italy, I do not want to here anything for this company!!!They have to return more than 500 euros!!!Ticket TA8277067 from March still open. They do not even react to my mails.
Additional cost: Fuel Up Front Option added to bill
Booked a car 23/10 (1 week) and decided to purchase extra insurance of 25 EUR/day + upgrade of car for 20 EUR/day. Later when I checked my credit card, Maggiore had billed me for: Fuel Up Front Option of 62 EUR. This makes no sense as the car was full of petrol when I returned the car. I have contacted them both on email and called them but no response. I have ticket nr: 89450438. Would appreciate if Maggiore could respond
I would like to share my worst rental experience
I would like to share my dissatisfaction regarding my recent car rental experience, as I believe there were several issues that were not handled properly.
We reserved and paid for a vehicle in a higher segment (Volkswagen T-Roc), but were given a lower-segment vehicle instead. We raised this concern at the time, but it was not accepted. I understand that the exact same model might not always be available; however, providing a lower-segment car for the same price is not acceptable. For clarity, the Volkswagen T-Roc is a C-segment vehicle, while the Citroën C3 is categorized as a B-segment vehicle, meaning they are not equivalent.
Our reservation was specifically for a diesel vehicle. During pickup, we were informed that the car was diesel, but upon receiving it in the parking area, we discovered that it was actually petrol. This affected our travel planning and resulted in higher fuel expenses.
When we asked to add an additional driver, the fee requested was extremely high.
We also requested additional insurance, but the cost was even higher than the rental fee itself, so we decided not to proceed.
Unfortunately, this rental experience made us feel misled, and certainly did not meet our expectations.
I am sharing this feedback with the hope that you will address it seriously and provide a satisfactory explanation or solution. Otherwise, I will consider sharing my experience on other public platforms as well.
No refund after breakdown
Hire car broke down. Although the company replaced it, we had to take a taxi to the airport to pick it up, which cost 120 euros. They promised to refund this a month ago but we are still waiting and customer services does not reply to messages.
Scam and lies
Scam and lies. We rented a car where the air condition was broken, though this was the first thing we asked about when making the rental agreement. We called the emergency number provided which was a dead end number. Upon returning the car, the staff were horrified and the station manager promised us that they had initiated a partial refund and that they would recommend a full refund, but that needed to be approved by head office. We have yet to receive any money back, over a month later, and their customer service are ignoring our emails. I expected more from a branch of Avis.

We have just had a 2 week car hire and had a lovely fiat 500, was great service and nice car … very pleasant service and car. Read lots of negative reviews which we felt a bit concerned about. But did the usual video and pics of the car to cover ourselves and it was all fine. Would definitely recommend this company. Was just as good as the expensive car
hire companies!
Thanks ☺️
Chasing refund for three months
Rented a car from them then cancelled three weeks before as my plans changed. No issues cancelling but I’ve been chasing them for refund since mid July. On the phone they say a senior manager needs to approve it and that it’ll happen any moment now bit nothing happens. I’ve now racked up £100 in credit card charges waiting for refund. Suggest you avoid them in the future.
Horrendous bunch of thieves…
Horrendous bunch of thieves. DO NOT USE. We had a tiny dent, less than 1cm with no scratch of paint. According to their terms, this should be wear and tear and not subject to a charge. However they charged us the maximum they could, 330 euro. AND they took the charge TWICE, so a total of 660 euros. They refuse to refund the money and we are going to have to take them to court.
Save the pain and look else where!
Initial Experience
The initial car pickup process was straightforward with no issues.
The Incident
Unfortunately, I was involved in a collision that damaged the vehicle, though it remained drivable. According to Maggiore's policy, incidents must be reported within 24 hours.
Customer Service Failures
Local Branch Contact Attempts:
I called the pickup branch multiple times over three consecutive days. Each time, staff told me to "call back tomorrow" without providing any assistance or taking a proper incident report.
Central Customer Service:
I also tried calling Maggiore's main customer service line, specifically requesting English-speaking support. However, I was repeatedly connected to representatives who could not communicate in English and hung up on me multiple times.
Return and Billing Issues
Upon returning the vehicle, they inspected the damage and applied a £1,500 excess charge. During the initial payment attempt, they informed me the transaction had failed and promised to email payment details and a receipt.
Fraudulent Charges
After returning to the UK, my credit card company's fraud department contacted me. They revealed that Maggiore had attempted to charge my card over 20 times, with two successful transactions of £1,500 each - meaning I was charged twice for the same excess.
Despite multiple requests, I have still not received any payment receipts, which I need for my excess insurance claim.
Verdict
AVOID THIS COMPANY. The combination of poor customer service, communication barriers, and what appears to be fraudulent billing practices makes Maggiore unsuitable for UK travelers. I question how any UK-based car hire broker can recommend a company that appears to regularly overcharge British customers.
Key Issues:
Inadequate incident reporting process
Language barriers with customer service
Duplicate charging (£3,000 instead of £1,500)
No payment documentation provided
Possible fraudulent billing practices
We rented a car from Maggiore from Roma to Roma
We rented a car from Maggiore from Rome to Rome We returned the car without a single scratch or scuff with the gas tank full. Without informing us or sending us an invoice, Maggiore charged our credit card about 1400 euros for scratch damage and an empty gas tank. It is impossible to assert our rights, this company is cheating. As proof, they send us the photos of the car they took 5 days later. Avoid renting a car from Maggiore at all costs!!
€1,347 STOLEN - Forged Signatures - CRIMINAL FRAUD
I rented two cars from Maggiore Italy (April-June 2025) and was systematically defrauded of €1,347 through double-billing and FORGED SIGNATURES on documents I never signed.
CONTRACTS: 140453353 & 137317983
THE SCAM:
- Prepaid €1,217 for first rental - they charged €2,233.33 instead
- Charged TWICE for: one-way fee (€70), airport surcharge (€305), insurance (€289.95)
- Fake "upgrade" fee of €150 - received the exact car class I booked
- They FORGED MY SIGNATURE on billing documents
Total stolen: €1,347 from agreed €2,032 = charged €3,379
Management (Rita Rossi, Anna Kuliga, James Adams, Gianluca Testa) ignored all complaints.
CRIMINAL CHARGES FILED:
✓ ECC-Net complaint submitted
✓ Italian police report for forgery
✓ Bank chargeback initiated
WARNING: This is not incompetence - it's organized fraud. They forge signatures. They steal money. Avoid at all costs.
Avoid Maggiore, They Will Charge You After Return with No Proof
I was charged €939 for a windshield chip with no proof, no review, and no response to my dispute. Maggiore took the money days later – after ignoring all my photos and objections.
This company is a disaster for travelers: they don't inspect properly, ignore evidence, and withdraw money without warning.
Maggiore is not a rental company – it's a trap. Avoid at all costs.
Shocking
Shocking, long waits to collect car and constant up sell.
EasyJet need to look at these reviews and stop recommending them. Absolute shower.
Not happy !😡
Maggiore Scam
All was well renting the car, pick up was fine and all good. On return the agent decided that a couple of scuffs on 2 alloys were caused by me, which they weren't, and a simple wiping would cost over €1,000. Absolute scammers, steer well clear as they're a disgrace.
Oh and when I asked the guy was he joking, his response was that's unfortunate that you paid for a cupra, if it was a fiat the scam amount would be way less, it's nearly funny if it wasn't illegal.

I rented the car from Maggiore Malpensa for 14 days. The ”service” at the airport was so bad. And they gave us 100 tkms driven so damaged hidious car. I made this reservation by rentalcars.com. I really wonder WHY rentalcars.com keeps these poor firms in their selection!
Hard to get partial deposit back (3 months so far)
We booked through a UK broker for holiday car hire, the car and staff were amazing, language barriers were non existent, so we were very pleased….
Our issue was when we returned the car, a few days later a random amount came out on the card we had used for the deposit….
Maggiore claimed this was for fuel, however as we had taken photos of the car before and after our trip we were able to show that the fuel in the car was the same at start and end of hire…. Maggiore agreed this was an error on their end and said they would refund the money to the card.
That was 3 months ago now, and every time we contact Maggiore (or Avis as I’ve now found out), they have a fist full of excuses as what’s caused the delay…. These excuses range from their computer is down, they have global payment issues, they are looking into it…. Or sometimes just zero response….:
To me it leaves me thinking that they might not be used to people questioning payments and either have no process in place to issue reimbursement, or just hope that if they give people the run around then the issue will just go away….
In my last email that is now over two weeks ago I said that I would leave a review reflecting our experience if the money wasn’t returned by this date, so it’s with regret that we’ve had to post this 3 star review for an otherwise flawless experience.
Hope this helps other customers to be reminded to get pictures of condition of the vehicle and fuel levels when they pick up and drop off their cars.
Kind regards.

I rented a car and returned it in the same condition as it was before. They said me it is OK. But after returning the car they charged my bank account. as if the car had been damaged somehow. But it happened quite a while ago
Strange check in process and awfulc car return scam
We rented a car in Venice Airport throught expedia with this company. It was odd that at the rental moment they dont check the car in front of you noting all the scratches and things, they just gave us the keys and we got going, we took pictures of the car because it was in a very poor condition.
Later i got an email with the damages of the car that was supposed to be done in front of me, they just sent an email.
We got back to the airport, they claimed their office is open until midnight but when we arrived they only had the car return open til 7pm, we arrived around 8 so we had to leave the keys with another lady who was working at the counter, she said the next day her college will finish the contract, we didn't get any contract so far, they have not return our deposit and we are getting unknown charged of 14 usd from the rental compnay without any reason or explanation.
Their phone number doesn't work, they dont have a customer service email so this is getting really frustrating
Please don't rent with this scammers as they will destroy your holiday with incompetence
I am extremely disappointed with my…
I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience with Maggiore and feel compelled to submit a formal complaint regarding the handling of my rental and customer service.
When I picked up the car on April 23rd, I was rushed due to the imminent closing of the rental office and the urgency of leaving my 15-year-old daughter alone with our luggage. I was tired, in a hurry, without my glasses, and trying my best to understand everything in Italian. Despite thinking I had confirmed my preferred options online beforehand, I later discovered that full comprehensive insurance had been added to my rental agreement — something I did not knowingly agree to.
As soon as I realized the mistake that same night, I attempted to contact Maggiore repeatedly — I emailed three times and called three times the very next morning asking for the charge to be corrected or at least reduced from the second day onward. My concerns were dismissed, and I was told there was nothing that could be done, even though I had acted promptly. I was simply referred to your policy without any meaningful resolution or willingness to investigate the miscommunication.
The additional €700 charge for insurance — more than the rental itself — had a significant impact on my travel budget and greatly affected my vacation in Italy. I feel this was not only unfair but that I was taken advantage of in a vulnerable moment. Your customer service, both at the branch and via email, showed no willingness to help despite my repeated, immediate efforts to resolve the issue.
I requested that Maggiore formally review this case and respond with a fair resolution.
I was told I should get a lawyer if I need to as I should have returned the car earlier if not happy with the error. I should point out that when I asked for help on day one that was never explained as an option. I was also not told this when I returned the car.
I was also not explained how the HYBRID car works, I had to do that on my own and it took me a few days. It was a bit complex but the car was very economical if used correctly, which like I said I took days to work out.
Based on this experience, I will not be recommending Maggiore to friends or family, and I am currently exploring options to escalate this issue further if necessary.
Incredibly poor service
Incredibly poor service. Damage not logged initially at pick-up (had to get this done) and then alleged damage added on return. We were unable to prove we were not responsible and had to accept charges. Car was subjected to a VERY detailed check on return, and then the next customer was simply waved through with no check whatsoever.
No damage invoice sent when contract was closed (as promised) and no response to three emails after end of rental. They charged my credit care 13 times for the same amount and then reversed 10 of them BUT kept money for alleged damage without any explanation.
It is now one month since I complained to Rental Car .com (UK agent) and they cannot get any response from this company either. DO NOT RENT under any circumstances as you will get stung!
