Flat tyre no help
Got a flat tyre in the middle of the mountain, and were told there would be a tow truck arriving in 45 minutes, this was as 7 pm in Italy time and so far not a single word. If you're thinking about renting a car with Maggiore or Avis, think again :)
Scammers to avoid.
Scammers to avoid. It was kind clear to expect on a pickup day we were pushed to buy their insurance 25eur/day, then instantly droped 15eur/day etc. We had RentalCover insurance so skipped. After returning the car their charged 200eur for damage (aka scratch, we could not prove it's not ours). Whatever. The worst thing, we did not get proof and even invoice about it to claim from insurance company. Reading all comments, I believe it's a part of an unfair business.

A complete Fraud!!
2 Months after the car's return they still keep our deposit of 300€ without any explanation or a reason. I do not know if they will pay it back. That is totally unacceptable. This company is a big fraud.

Absolutely awful experience
Absolutely awful experience! We were going to a wedding for the weekend so rented a car from Rome airport. For starters the people who worked behind the desk were very abrupt and rude! They tried to charge me double the deposit I had agreed and told me they could not change it because it was an automated system!! So I paid it (luckily ended up getting it back). Then they told me I had to purchase their insurance even though I had purchased full protection through booking.com. We argued this till the woman gave up trying to sell it to us! To be fair we were given a really nice car with a full tank of fuel. Now fast forward to returning the car - there was a scratch on the wing mirror that we definitely didn’t do! We would own up if we had. We had taken a video prior to leaving with the car originally however due to the colour of the car the reflections of the floor make it very hard to see if the scratch was already there. They made us sign an agreement that we would pay €280 which 1. Is extortionate for a tiny little scratch 2. We didn’t want to sign but when you need to catch a flight what can you do?! Anyway fast forward 48 hours I wake up and they have sent an invoice for €273 however they end up taking £290 out my account!!! To top it off when I have contacted the insurance that I paid for - they are also arguing about refunding me because the reference for the transaction is my rental agreement number - no mention of the company anywhere!! I am going to keep fighting this until I get my money back.

Bari airport - Terrible experience
We booked the car through Vipcars where we took full insurance, but when we came to them they offered us full insurance for 80e for 4 days, but when I said that we already took it, it's not the same because if we don't take it, we'll have to pay for it to pay and then to be charged by vipcars. We must have stayed over 1 hour and 30 minutes for 2 cars. The price we had to pay was much higher and the deposit was different for the two same cars. There was not a full tank in the car. In the end we made a mistake, we poured the wrong fuel because the guy at the pump told us so. We didn't turn the car so as not to cause damage. The girl from the service desk told us that we would only have to pay for filling the tank, which is normal, but the next day they tried to charge us an additional 400e plus an initial deposit of 260e. For cleaning the tank 660e????? They didn't answer, and when I left a bad review, the boss called me at the same moment and wondered how, what, and at one point she started yelling. When I asked to get the invoice and to see why they took so much money, she hung up. So they could easily take off 2000s without me knowing why so much. I hope that it will fail and that people will not have problems with them. Terrible experience.
The Florence Airport and Maggiore nightmare
The Company claim in paperwork as do Auto Car that there is an office and car hire in Florence Airport Terminal. There is not! You have to queue ages in heat for shuttle bus to go to car hire. We took taxi to avoid this. Then fun starts. We waited 2 hours in a ticket system for attention and to get car. It's worse for Maggiore customers as being less they are not prioritised. It took us longer to get through customs, another inefficient slow, process and to get car than flight from Heathrow! If possible I'll avoid Florence Airport in future and if no choice,would get taxi location and hire car locally. I'll never use Maggiore or AUTO CAR again as provided incorrect information and very inefficient.
Rent a car- Bologna Airport (BLQ)
In April 2024, a car was rented and a deposit of 300 euros was left. After returning the car, the company does not return the deposit for more than four months, although according to the terms of the contract it must make a return within 30 days. The support service promises a refund, but nothing happens. Be careful of this situation, you may not get your money back!!!!

Hindsight is indeed a wonderful thing! Why didn’t we read Trustpilot reviews before booking our rental car at Sicily? We booked it via Avis, in our opinion an established and reputable company. However they use ‘Maggiore’, an Italian company which they acquired in 2015.
We paid £575 for 10 days car hire and received a voucher which we exchanged for the car. This included all insurances etc. We picked up the car at Catania airport and all was well with the car and our travels. We returned the car, unscathed and full of fuel, exactly as we had received it. We were given a sheet of paper to sign as a receipt and proceeded to catch our flight back to Bristol airport.
However, 2 days later £600 was taken from our bank account. Apparently we had signed agreeing to pay any extra charges, eg ‘location surcharge’ (This goes towards the rental of the Maggiore office building at the airport)
These unseen charges have doubled our rental cost. We have travelled all over the world, always using rental cars, and nothing like this has happened before.
Be warned - be very careful what you sign for, avoid Maggiore and by association avoid Avis. We certainly will never use Avis again and will do our best to spread the word!
There are plenty of honest car rental companies out there - choose carefully!!
Car rental you can’t rely on
Booked a car in Maggiore in March 2023 at Malpensa airport. Upon my arrival they couldn’t find my booking confirmation for a long time, then couldn’t find the car (obviously there were problems and company officers communicated among themselves in Italian which I couldn’t understand). In the end they took my credit card and said that it didn’t work so they couldn’t give me the car. I gave another card from another bank but it also didn’t work. I contacted both my banks immediately and they informed me that there weren’t any attempt to charge my card.
After this I went to another rentcar provider in the airport and took car without any pre-booking and my credit card surprisingly worked. I suppose that Maggiore just had rented out the car that I booked to someone else at better price.. that’s just my presumption but I wouldn’t recommend anyone to plan their trip with Maggiore.
In addition I contacted broker trough which I booked car in Maggiore, economycarrentals.com, to complain. After checking brokers answered me that Maggiore confirmed them my “no show”!!! Liars!

I have paid for an insurance, I have proof of the conditions on the card before I take it. now they are charging me 700€ for scratch in the car that was previous done, no by myself. customer service stop answering me after I had shown the proof of insurance payment and previous damages.

It is pretty confusing to me to read all the bad reviews. Just returned from Bergamo. Booked a car with the Maggiore rental. No negative impressions. Both pick up and drop off went smoothly. No damages found. No issues reported. Deposit returned.

Stole money from my credit card
Maggiore deducted money from my credit card weeks after the rental period ended without giving me notice. When I sent an e-mail requesting information about this withdrawal on my card they answered quickly that I would recieve a speeding ticket from the police in my mail box and they had deducted a feed for expiditing the letter from the police.
It's been 8 months now and I have not received any ticket from the police and Maggiore hasn't answered any of the 5 e-mails or phone calls I've made.

Thieves, the only name this company deserves. Rented a car from 30.03.2024 - 6.04.2024 at Fiumicino Airport. Just two minutes after dropping the car at the car park, 900 euros were stolen from my credit card, without prior notification, for an existing damage (proved and guaranteed with photo). Every thing orchestrated from their employe named Dario, a real trap. I will file a sue against Maggiore Company and against the person in charge named Dario in the penal court of Roma for an extortion and after that I will sue them in the civil court and I will not give up until justice is served.

Unbelievable the way this company carry on. A few years ago my wife asked me to go and pick the car up as we were staying in Rome. She said all insurance and everything has been paid for so when I went to the desk at Rome station the lady I delt with asked me if I needed any more insurance and I said no. She then asked me to sign in various places. As I speak Italian, I explained to her but I didn’t need any more Insurance and she said okay that’s fine. She said, please sign here, here, and here so then I went along the road to pick the car up. It was only when I got back to the UK that I noticed my credit card was debited another £100 this company are crooks and they should not be allowed to trade as a hire company. Please avoid at all costs
I would not rent from Maggiore again
I would not rent from Maggiore again. They were very relaxed about the car on pick up and didn't want to come out and look at it with me when I picked it up, but then checked it in great detail upon drop off. After finding a scratch that I disputed, they took money from my credit card without letting me know. I've emailed them three times and still, (10 days later), haven't heard anything about why I'm being charged or how they've calculated it. They've also, (seemingly), charged me a late drop off fee, despite me returning the car exactly on time. On the invoice they say I returned the car a day late, but again, there is no communication from them at all. Terrible experience.
Never Rent through Maggiore or Avvis
After having the car damaged whilst parked I returned the car to Fiumicino Airport. They looked at the damage and agreed a price of Euro 1890.86 (which in the end turned out to be Euro 1931.79 equal to £1658.06). They said they would forward photos of the damage and the damage report immediately. 3 days later still waiting. They debited my credit card for £1572.76 with a reference of Maggiore ROI. Next day I check my CC account and they have debited another £1658.06 but this time through Avis rent a car! Now I have a CC debit of £3230.82 when my cc limit is £2000! This impacts my credit score. Their contract states that the maximum they can charge you for any damage is Euro 2300 (approx £2000). Impossible to telephone their office at the airport on +39 066510678 or 0665011508. No way of obtaining the photos of the damage they promissed. Fortunately, I have a Premium Insurance through AXA (having booked the rental through easyJet) but to reclaim this access through them requires documents and proof. I travel all around the world and I have to say that dealing with Italy is the worst experience there is. Customer service - well it seems they know nothing about it. Will never rent through them again and will certainly NEVER recommend them either. If I could give them minus stars then they'd certainly get a -10 from me! Worst experience ever.

There was a long, over an hour wait to pick the ca we booked. Only one person on the desk, and a long line of customers.
I asked to be charged full to full on the fuel, but was invoiced for petrol up front despite returning the car full. The car we rented was gasoline and LPG, but this was not explained and I filled up with both before returning the car, costing me an extra 50 euros. When I got the final invoice they added on 200 euros for scratches to a wheel, which I definitely did not cause, and would have been very difficult to identify on an initial inspection. Overall a very unsatisfactory experience.
