I received emails that my domain was about to expire. Not wanting this to happen, I logged in and my password wasn't working. I clicked the reset password and the page refreshed telling me to check my email. Never received the reset email, repeated this process multiple times. I did online chat to resolve my issue, the agent told me I didn't have a current account with them even though I was receiving emails. They insisted on this, even though it seemed very confusing. My domain expired, still couldn't reset password. So I called, this time after 40 minutes of back and forth they reset my password and told me I had to buy back my domain for $80 and they don't know what previous agent was talking about. Supervisor essentially accused me of lying, saying it was impossible that I reset my password and didn't get email. What a waste of my time, and now without my domain. I can't believe this even happened after multiple attempts of trying to get into my account AND talking to a customer service agent.
Their support is basically nonexistent. I told them I wanted to move my site from a Grid server to a DV server (which I only wanted to do because they have an extremely old php on the Grid and wont update it). I am not a developer and I made that clear. Long story short they just sent me links to articles on how to move the site, but missed a giant step in the process and it broke my site. They then said they could fix it for $100 but it would take 7-10 days. I have tried to reverse what I did with no luck so now I am forced to pay them and wait with no business for a week plus.
Our company has been hosting websites with Media Temple since 2012. The service has slowly degraded over the years to the point it just isn't viable hosting websites with them anymore. I've been working in this industry for over 20 years and you'd be hard pushed to find worse customer service, they just couldn't care less. It's like the people you speak to there have all lost the will to live. A sinking ship it would seem. There are many better hosting companies out there, I'd recommend to anyone to avoid Media Temple at all costs.
My domain expired in November, I wasn't able to access my account because apparently was closed (I don't know why and either they know). I couldn't contact support because I wasn't able to log in to my account. I had to send an email with my ID and a form to verify my identity and recover my account (which it toke a couple of days) and then renew my domain. once I did this I was able to contact an agent and renew my expired domain, I was told that I have to pay the domain fee and they were going to wave me the 80 USD fee for the recovery because of the pandemic.
this was back in December. January my domain wasn't working. I contact support which is very difficult because they put you in line to wait around 20 to 25 minutes, but his chat service doesn't have a chime or notification sound. so we never coincide, by the time I checked the chat, it was already disconnected. I had to stay in front of the monitor just watching the window to wait for an agent to be connected. also sometimes if the browser renews the tab, the connection in the chat was lost.
the thing is that apparently back in December the domain wasn't renewed because I did not confirm with the agent that the payment was already made. As stupid as this may sound, the domain now is lost This "premium" service has nothing of premium in it.
I lost my domain, and they simply told me it can't be fixed and I have to wait from 60 to 100 days to buy it again if available. and they just told me this in January, weeks after this process started.
I have been a customer of mt for more than 10 years now. I can not complain about the support but grid server is a trash! Very slow server! Not satisfied. Hope to take away my sites as soon as possible.
I was almost hesitant to put this review here as I'm seeing that many people rating the mt™ very low.
My experience is different and perhaps give you a slightly different perspective - I have been a satisfied customer of mt™ for more than 7 years now. I have run more than 12 domains for SME's enterprise and have no problem or deal with any issue or challenge we have come across. None of that should put me off from using these guys as a SAS service.
The availability of services was incomparable to others. Mine and my partner's site runs as they should without any major glitch.
Tech support responding immediately and sent me the summary of our conversation once we finish resolving the upgrade or further integration.
Ok, I'm not a technical type as per se. I know what is SSL, how to install DB and manage users. So those who looking for some #terminal #matrix #access thing I'm not it and I can not refer to it.
I'm a very happy customer and will recommend this service to any of my client.
I spend more time on chat than I want to. Most replies are copy paste and full of links for me to follow and find the solution myself. Unless it's a sales pitch, then I have their full attention.
I have been a loyal customer for over 10 years. A month ago they deleted my account altogether because i wasn't able to pay my hosting bill in time. The reason being i was in the hospital due to a serious health complication.
After i got home i received an email that my account had been deleted.
I sent mediatemple 3 emails to ask if there would be a possibility to restore my account, i mean every hosting company holds backups! I received no reply. Then i tried calling and the service agent hung up on me!
I know i should had paid in time but due to circumstances that was impossible. I kindly asked if they could restore my account with a back up, nothing more.
How can you treat a loyal customer of 10+ years that way? At least reply to my question and don't hang up on me.
Worthless and rude customer service.
Oh yeah, and their tech service is a joke as well! Every time something was wrong they would blame it on me, incompetent tech support to say at least.
Stay away from mediatemple. They don't value you as a customer, even if you've been with them for 10+ years.
I have been using them for 12 years! Downtime is so so high and there is no customer support at all. The only support that we have is a copy-paste text without listening to users frustrations. They do not provide any good solutions for us. They used to be number 1 in the market. Hard to understand how they end up here?
Terrible!
Mediatemple’s service appears to be in complete meltdown and has experienced multiple outages over the past few months and at least 4 major outages in February alone, totaling nearly 10 hours. We paid for their Move-a-site service and they refused to refund the fees even though the service is unusable. Details appear below.

Too much down time for our liking
Support was very patchy. on a good day you would get great tchnical support however there were many days where we were treated poorly, tickets misread and multiple tickets or calls needed to get things sorted
The Railgun cloudflare integration is helpfull and the control penal well thought out but high prices the relentless selling of add on services at $70 a time (no refunds if it doesn't work either!) and patchy service drove us away.
I'm on the MT grid service. I host about 10 websites from one account, and they're always relatively fast (one is a bit slow at times, but I'm pretty sure that's an problem with my 3rd party DNS).
The free CouldFlare railgun support is particularly interesting.
