Went into this job with high…

Went into this job with high expectations, expecting it to be an opportunity to change people’s lives, realised very quickly that wasn’t possible. Every idea was shut down and ignored. Witnessed bullying that again was dismissed. Poor practice and forms of neglect that shouldn’t have happened. Being put in situations that you felt you had no voice or choice in. Constantly having work added to you that you hadn’t even been shown how to do fully. Towards the end it got that bad you weren’t sure if you’d have to stay over night or not due to lack of staff and the fact the rotas were never completed to full capacity. Just to clarify I have now started a better job which pays extra for more responsibility. I genuinely feel sorry for the people who have to live at these premises because quite frankly it needs shutting down.

Management has no structure

Management is poor, they don’t seem to have a clue what’s going on in the remote IT department. Training is terrible. There’s no real structure. I think the company is great what they do. They just need people working who knows what they are doing & have good communication what is expected and what needs to do be done. Ruthless company to work for especially for a charity. I did not expect this.

Only for robots way of working.

In my experience, the organisation was rigid and discouraged independent thinking in the IT department, they want people to work as robots. Management (jane) zero support & communication felt weak, the environment seemed disorganised, and some practices came across unethical to me. Overall I wouldn't recommend this organisation to work for, no motivation, mickey mouse 10 minute training & no proper communication.

Wow!!!

Wow!!!! The Godmachester shop was the most organised and incredible charity shop I’ve ever been in. The staff were also unbelievably friendly and helpful. Will definitely be shopping again there very soon!!!

I was a volunteer at mencap for 6 months before applying for a store assistant job . I work for Godmanchester . Having seen some recent reviews that I thought were completely unfair I thought I would add my experience with the team . From the moment I started volunteering I was greeted with a warm welcome this was from other members of staff and volunteers. I continued to work 45 hours as a volunteer as I enjoyed it so much . Every volunteer is treated with the up-most respect and care, someone is always there to lend a supportive hand . Because of this experience I then decided to apply for a job as store assistant . Having 4 children with additional needs myself made me want to support Mencap more . I am the happiest I have been and look forward to seeing everyone . I still do volunteering hours on top of my store assistant Part time job . Thank you to everyone who has made this a great place to be for everyone involved .

Avoid! Branch amazing, upper management a disgrace.

I worked in The Godmanchester Branch. I loved my colleagues and what the company stood for! At branch level it was an incredible place to be. My below comments have nothing to do with any member of staff or the brand itself but way above.
I found middle management to be bullies and the way they treated people with a learning disability was disgusting! When I called them out I was evidently pushed out of the company. All they care about it making money and the amount they (higher management), throw away without checking is simply criminal! Whilst the staff on the ground work so hard to get through every donation!
I do not recommend working on the retail
Side of the business.

Applied for a job..

Applied for a job... sorry, I tried to apply for a job here but the site is an absolute state, no matter my answer to one of their questions, it always states it's invalid.

Upon seeing the other reviews of this place I'm really not bothered anymore.

Mencap stands out as one of the most…

Mencap stands out as one of the most disappointing companies I have encountered in my 35 years of professional experience, despite my brief tenure there. My time with them has been nothing short of exasperating.

They repeatedly fail to pay wages promptly and utterly disregard UK employment law. It took an astonishing three months, along with a plethora of phone calls and emails, just to receive my wages. Their excuse? They claimed I lacked a payroll number, treating it as if it were my responsibility to resolve. The HR team, unfortunately, is not only unhelpful but also rude and remarkably unprofessional.
At this moment, I find myself pursuing my outstanding final wages, which should have been disbursed in February. As we move into March, I am left in the dark about when this woefully unprofessional company will finally meet its obligations. My advice is for any true professional to steer clear of this company

I phoned Mencap Trust Company today to ask for advice about setting up a trust for a relative who has difficulty managing his financial affairs. The person I spoke to was extremely helpful, explaining the trustee services they can provide, and how those operate.

Restructering Rebranding Mencap

After 2018 South Yorkshire Housing Association desolved our Community Group from our Community Centre in block where I lived and all the funds were stopped and they moved Mencap in taking over all the Facilities of the Community Centre.

I was diagnosed with High Functioning Autism in 2011 and I was not sure whether I was going to get Support but I was fast tracked by Council Short Term Support to Mencap Support in 2019.

One of the Previous Mencap Support Worker said some disturbing details to me about Cousin that got murdered in 1997 Sheffield Unsolved Case.

I am having to pay around £250 a month for support out of my benefits which I can't afford plus Mencap expect to pay extra for Meals and Activities that they run in the Community Centre.

I think that Mencap should be rebranded restructed under a different name Mencap is so outdated and should be called Royal or British Learning Disabilities Association.
