A First Class Service

Called in with my wife who wanted to draw out some money from her account (she has mobilty problems and cannot stand for long). As soon as this was known by the Teller (Claire Reedman) she pointed out seats where we could sit and then did all the necessary and brought the money too us. She also suggested we may wish to look at a third party mandate in case my wife is unable to get to the MHBS. Gave us an explanstion and all the necessary forms and information so we could consider and follow up if we wished. A really good customer experience you don't often get these days - full marks!

Exceptional service

On behalf of parents; We visited the Harborough branch on wednesday and were assisted with our query by Claire Reedman. Her friendliness and support were exceptional and her experience was clearly demonstrated in her patience and advice. We couldn't have asked for better customer service.

A pleasure to deal with

Call was picked up promptly

Emma.....(i think it was) was polite....professional....answered both my queries quickly and helpfully

She also sounded very "jolly" and was a pleasure to deal with

If only all banks treated their customers like this!

MHBS - real people, real service.

I needed to check something and I was called by Emma who was really helpful.
Our experience with large businesses that communicate via chatbots or call centres and now AI is dreadful and this is why we choose smaller, more personal suppliers wherever possible. On-line everything is just fine - until you need help or have a problem.

Great customer service

After having had an account with MHBS for many years our branch of The Royal British Legion reluctantly have to close the account. The assistance given by Emma over the telephone in explaining what we need to do was very helpful and has made the process very simple.

My Experience not very good sadly

Extremely disappointed at how Market Harborough handled my attempt to open a fixed rate savings account online.
I have opened numerous accounts over the years, and have never had a problem with any organisation.
Opened the account online and was expecting the usual welcome email, together with details of how to fund the account.
I received an email asking for photo ID and a copy of my linked bank statement.
My photo ID uploaded ok, but the capture of bank statement kept coming up with an error message. So I sent a pdf of my bank statement.
I was then sent another email asking for another copy of my bank statement. Again nothing worked, all I got was an error message, so I phoned and spoke to a very nice, well spoken lady, who said she would send me yet another link to upload the statement.
I received the email, clicked the link, and it said "information request has been submitted", so I assumed that the previous upload had been received.
I received no email for a few days, so I emailed customer services asking what the issue was and please could I have an update.
Market Harborough did not respond.
I telephoned again and asked for clarification. I spoke to the same lady, who although was polite, was extremely robotic and offered zero feedback. I explained that i had recently sold a property and had a substantial amount to invest and because the rates were good, I was keen to proceed with Market Harborough. I asked what the issue was, was it the upload, was it they were facilitating so many applications that things were taking time, or was it anything else ? She offered zero information and said someone would contact me from the account opening team.
I heard nothing for about 7-10 days and then received a generic email saying the application was no longer proceeding. No explanation, no nothing.
I accept that errors can occur, or there maybe some discrepancy, but having spoken twice on the phone it would have been nice to have been told what the issue was, which I am sure could have been rectified. I have had accounts for over 40 years with many banks etc and have never had a problem ever with opening an account, until now.
I sent a further email requesting to know why the account could not be facilitated, to which I have yet to receive the courtesy of a reply.
I can't say to anyone do not work with this building society, as the reviews are extremely good and the interest rates are also very good, which makes my experience even more surprising.
I will amend this review accordingly once I receive a reply, if I actually get one.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We’re really sorry to hear how frustrating this has been, and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention.

Occasionally, if required documents aren’t successfully received by our system within a set timeframe, an application may close automatically. From what you’ve described, it appears the system may have indicated that your bank statement was submitted, even though the file didn’t upload correctly. We understand how confusing and disappointing this must have been, particularly as you made the effort to provide the information and follow up.

We’d welcome the opportunity to look into this further and understand exactly what happened. If you’re happy to do so, please contact us directly on 01858 412412 or email us at customersfirst@mhbs.co.uk so we can investigate and ensure you receive the level of service you should expect from us. Kind regards MHBS Team
