Be warned
Really disappointed at the service. It has been awful and dragged over the period of a year.
Last year, I asked Milborrow to quote and install a bioethanol fire. The sent someone around who said he was there to do an [unneeded] "gas check" and was unabl to provide such a service. He seemed to have no idea what we had asked for. We had to pay for this despite it not being needed and what we had asked for not being provided.
This year we again requested for details and installation of a bioethanol fireplace. I made it very clear that this was needed before Christmas and I was assured it would be possible. Again, someone came round who had no idea we had asked for this service. I had to talk them through the space that needed to be measured, show them the emails and specifications from Milborrow etc - none of which they had. Just to say this person was very pleasant and responsive so I noted that they had provided a good service.
I was told that we would be provided with the quote in a few days. Over a week later, still no quote. Rang up and was spoken to, in my opinion, quite condescendingly and finally given one later that evening. Now being told they cannot do installation until January. Really shocking and terrible.
My experience is that this company promised me something they have not honoured and cost me the opportunity of securing another provider.

We are very surprised you have resorted to online to air your frustrations.
Unfortunately not ringing true to our notes or records on our systems as to the chain of events. Trevor originally attended site on 11th November 2022 to sweep and confirm your old gas fireplace was capped suitably and measured up for a Bio Ethanol appliance that we then provided an estimate for these works once discussed options and details on; 3rd January 2023 - Estimate 23/18563 for Job 86373 we didn't have any response on this estimate sent all summer and autumn.
You have then re-established contact mid October 2023 (Our busy time of year) and we then re-visted on 13th November.
We then sent a new estimate 23/19634 on 21st November 2023. You then emailed on 23rd November asking for availability if booked and we are responded now booking into January 2024 for installations.
We never as a company guarantee installation pre-Christmas we say there is current availability but this is being booked in daily and is subject to manufacturers and suppliers as well with lead times.
I do not follow your statements of ongoing bad service and being de-prioritized we have delivered what we agreed and as requested and the lead times for works are out of our hands and fluctuate daily.
I apologize we cannot meet your schedule requirements and you feel you have lost the opportunity with another company. Should you wish to discuss further please contact us in the offices.
Terrible service level
Terrible service level. Cancelled on us twice with little notice.
1st visit booked for early October and they had to cancel, then couldn't rebook us for another two weeks. We waited in all day on the rescheduled appointment only to be called late afternoon and informed yet again they had to cancel last minute. Our fireplace is our main source of heating and after contacting them about this second cancellation we are informed that the best they could offer would be another long wait (2 weeks)! Very poor given both cancellations were on their side and the time wasting involved. Dreadful customer service experience sadly. Looking for an alternative, reliable service.

I have reviewed your booking J97713. I can only again apologies for the two occasions we have had to reschedule your appointment.
The initial booking was re-scheduled from 16th was due to staff sickness which as I am sure you can appreciate we also have little notice for. This was re-scheduled for the 28th unfortunately on this date the operative booked ran into problems with blockages on a previous job and we have to reschedule again due to him being delayed and overrunning his schedule.
We have re-booked you into the earliest gap of the 11th (having squeezed you into this gap) and have put you on the "bring forward list" I am afraid this time of year we are super super busy and it is very hard to schedule and re-schedule with problems and issues such as the two you have experienced. We do our upmost to manage and inform clients as soon as we are aware of issues.
We hope we can meet your expected level of service on the 11th and thank you for your patience and understanding under the circumstances.
Surprise Wedding appearance
It was a pleasure and delight to receive a genuine chimney sweep at our wedding to help foster good luck for the marriage, the sweep was very well received by our guests as was his feline companion.
Fantastic addition to our big day and helped make it all the more special for both Groom and Bride!

We found this company excellent. It dealt with the non working gas fire and it is now working as it should. The very helpful man who came also cleaned the chimney. No mess was made in any of the work and we were more than pleased with the quality of the work. The date for the work to be done was adhered to.

The 2 young lads that came, were however lovely and could not fault them or there helpful knowledge, so thank you guys!

My gripe is the 2 phone calls and 4 texts after wanting the money from my wife.
Paid in full 3 days later when i got home from being away with work, but somehow felt in the back of my mind it was not a company i would want to deal with again.

Good Morning Mr Bucking and Mrs Wiget,
Your J89193 was email estimated as you have stated £125.00 - £250.00 + VAT your "small terrace house" although maybe narrow is very tall as is the chimney stack that protrudes even further out your roof, coupled with 3 x Velux windows and ridge finials next door made access quite awkward to achieve safely. Followed by as you are aware from your emails to us the top of the stack was caged which required removing and then reinstating after completing the test. Hence the charges being the top end of estimated works due to the additional works and not being a straightforward access for two operatives.
As per terms the works were completed on 23rd of January and payment was due upon completion of works. Which you were present for, so not sure about your statements about being "away with work" we have followed up for fair payment owed for works completed which was paid via BACS on 3rd of February nearly 2 weeks later.
If you were unable to pay or away with work how is that our responsibility to be telepathic? Communication of when payment would of been made would have resolved this amicably, rather than taking to an online keyboard to negatively promote our company. Chasing customers for fair monies and payment owed, on an estimate you accepted in writing and the workmanship by your own words; "lovely and could not fault them or there helpful knowledge, so thank you guys!" it really does baffle us trying to complete works fairly and to high standard.

We can highly recommend Milborrow Chimney, everything they said they would do happened. The work carried out was excellent and so clean ( not easy dealing with soot and bird nests ) The open fire over Christmaa was magical and also cost saving on our heating bill.

Excellent service and good value
Take no notice of the few negative reviews on trust pilot! I have used Milborrow Chimney Sweeps several times. They are always very easy to deal with, helpful on the phone when booking or making an inquiry, arrive on time, do the job quickly and with zero mess, and at a very reasonable charge. This year they kindly squeezed us in just before Christmas on request. Not much more to ask for really. Thanks very much.

Avoid at all costs. Because that is what you will be in for. All costs. I was quoted £1500 for installing a stove but somehow received a final bill for £3276. Their employees are clearly there to find dodgy ways of increasing the bill. Pretentious owners who treat all their customers as cash cows.

Was lovely to see you in Court yesterday where you were ordered by the court to pay the full amount owed and expenses for the works completed. Which was funny enough 100% as per the estimate sent to you and formally accepted by yourself in writing. As the judge said yesterday I suggest you again to re-read said estimate with a calculator to get to the total amount invoiced. Which is what we look forward to having in full and final settlement of your works as ordered by the court together with our expenses for our wasted time.
It is very refreshing for us that the Judge be as confused as we were in a formally estimated job and exactly matching invoice to be questioned.

The Job to clean the chimney only took…
The Job to clean the chimney only took 5 mins - 15 mins in total to set up and pack up. Yet the cost of £72 still applies. A rude receptionist who threatened court action as the payment was a few days after the job. You can get cheaper elsewhere, with a better customer service.

Brilliant service James and Hadyn
James and Haydn were called out to clean our chimney and to save a pigeon which had sadly fallen down. They were truly professional and so kind. They successfully saved the pigeon too! True gentlemen and always a brilliant company to do business with. I highly recommend them to anyone.

I needed a chimney sweeping. Following the reply from MILBORROW, I can only repeat that the second sweep completeted the job, and declared the liner undamaged.
I needed a chimney sweeping. Milborrow had an online advert, ( claiming royal patronage!)....& could attend swiftly..( we wanted a fire over Xmas!)
A man duly arrived....but very quickly told me my chimney flue was “ compromised”.... requiring complete renewal.
We spent Xmas without a fire, and received a quote for ( approx) £2000....feeling a little wary...( the story about having had a mystery chimney fire didn’t quite add up!).... we found another sweep....who turned up, swept the chimney without problem...inspected the flue, and declared it in perfect order!! ...all done in 1/2 hr , and charged £60!...
I would add that trying to leave a review on CHECKATRADE.... turned out to be futile!....somehow MILBORROW could not be found??!!
( all my claims can be verified....and after complaining to their management, was told their charge( £70) was fair, and they refused any refund. )
I would strongly advise anyone to avoid ....or check carefully....any work done by this company.
They are big!!....two sweeps I’ve since spoken to both confirm unpleasant experience of this company.
( ask ANY local tradesmen??)

We do get cross when reviews are written without the whole story of what occurred and ask that you withdraw your 1 star review. Our sweep attended the property to sweep the chimney and removed a stove full of soot in three rods sent up the chimney. The situation was discussed with yourself and your partner that your chimney had not been swept for some time and not surprised that it was now a problem as discussed during our visit. There was a blockage approx 3.5m up the chimney which we could not get past and as discussed between the Operative, Office and yourself the flue liner is now compromised and further investigation and works required. A chimney fire can destroy a stainless steel liner. The manufacturers would advise that if you have a chimney fire and a blockage is located, a new liner would be advised. Unfortunately, this problem has been caused through lack of maintenance. Another sweep has now been back at your property without knowing the whole story and cannot confirm the flue lining is ok after clearing the blockage. The flue is now cleared, but is it safe? We are concerned for your safety, if the flue liner collapses and/or you have another chimney fire could fumes enter your property. The decision was yours to go elsewhere, but safety is paramount when it comes to Chimney Fires. Ben, G MD
