Recommendations based on Commission

Recommendations based on their commission only.
After requesting the best electricity and gas deals for my address, I spoke with someone on the phone. My current rates were better.
Two weeks later the phone calls every day started to tell me there was now a cheaper rate with British Gas available. They told me I have to leave my EV tariff with Octopus (not one of their providers) to go to standard tariff with British Gas only whilst my account is set up. I can transfer straight over to the EV tariff quoted.
Upon setting up my new account, I was told 5 working days, now I have been told another 8 working days. All whilst I am having to pay day rates to charge my car. Conveniently for them, their tariffs are now increasing before my extra 8 working days are up.
I submitted a complaint to be told 14 working days for that.
Do not believe the advice this website gives you. I am now paying more than I was and I am locked in tariffs with exit fees.

EDIT:
Money saving expert have said they don’t operate this service, yet because I live in a new build I had to leave my number with them for a call back. This is who called me back and gave me this service. When googling the number it comes right back to money saving expert.

Hi Bec,

We very sorry to hear of the trouble you've been having, however we can confirm that you have not switched through MoneySavingExpert.com.

MSE is an online-only service and do not operate any call centres, nor do we partner with any firms offering this service. Additionally, we are unable to compare or switch EV tariffs through our online Cheap Energy Club platform.

We wish you all the best in getting this sorted and hope that this helps to clarify.

Edit to add: Hi Bec, following your edit, we just want to reiterate that this is not a service MSE offers - we don't do any kind of call-backs. If you could send an email to furtherhelp@moneysavingexpert.com with the number you called, we can look into this further, but the number that called you is definitely not ours.

Kind regards,
MSE User Relations team

Forum is interesting

I joined the MSE Forum a while back and am intrigued by the issues raised by members and the range of replies given by other "Forumites".
Some issues are moral dilemmas. Some involve legal matters. Sadly, some Forumites seem to be underqualified to give advice, but others are well informed. Issues raised are often ones I had never thought about - including legal entitlements others may have over your property [even when that is freehold].
Well worth joining the Forum, but keep eyes open!

Informative and helpful - 5*

I have always found the information on site helpful and must have saved hundreds if not thousands over the years, and earned even more as vouchers or cashback!!

I have only had to contact the MSE team once when i wasn't sure how the Cheap Energy Club cashback worked, and I got a really quick and helpful response from the team.

Thank you MSE!

Guide for financial planning

Money Saving Expert is one of my favorite websites for financial information. It has helped me resolve numerous disputes with various companies. For example, I had an issue with a delayed flight, and I used a service they offered called Resolver. As a result, I managed to obtain £2,100 in compensation from the airline. Unfortunately, Resolver is no longer available, but it was one of the excellent services provided by Money Saving Expert.

I use Money Saving Expert to find the best cash ISA deals, fixed deposit offers, and mortgage options. I always check the site for all my financial needs. I recommend this website to everyone, including those looking for information on mobile phones, energy plans, broadband, and more. Thank you.

I always clear my credit card every month. I recently used it to pay £6000 for part payment for a used car which I cleared on the due date. Now I am being refused credit as the £6000 is still showing on my credit score. I hope it will revert back to normal. This has never happened to me before even though I use my credit card for most purchases and have never had any outstanding balance past the due payment date. Quite shocked.

Hi Naomi,

We're sorry to hear the balance is still showing on your credit report; lenders typically report balance changes every 4-6 weeks so it won't be updated straightaway on your report. However, if it's been longer or you don't think something is showing correctly, you can raise a dispute with TransUnion (the credit reference agency who power Credit Club) via the buttons in your report.

If you need any support with this, please email CreditClub@MoneySavingExpert.com and we'd be happy to help.

Kind regards,

Dodgy Advice from Cheap Energy Club AVOID

Joined Cheap Energy Club as MSE has been a trusted consumer focused organisation for years. Recently received a note about moving to British Gas for an amazing deal so decided to switch. MSE we're aware of my current deal as the comparison quoted my existing tariff with EON next. Completed the switch on their adviceonly to be charged £100 exit fees. Complained and got a response from someone called the MONY group (ironically titled) stating it was my fault and I should have known. I'm now £100 out of pocket and on a more expensive tariff with EON next. What a waste of time, effort and money!
Unfortunately this company (Mony Group) continue to lie, at the time the comparison was listed MY CORRECT TARIFF WAS LISTED AND I WAS MISADVISED. Dreadful dreadful organisation AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!

Reply from MoneySavingExpert.com

Hi Kris,

We're sorry to hear you've been charged exit fees. We've looked into this further, and can see that at the time of your application you listed your tariff as your supplier's standard variable. This tariff doesn't have exit fees, so if you believe you have been charged incorrectly please reach out to your supplier.

If the tariff wasn't listed correctly, unfortunately we we wouldn't have been able to display the exit fees - you have a 14 day cooling off period from the date you submit your application if you change your mind.

Money Saving Expert Forum

Money Saving Expert Forum was invaluable in helping me navigate my way through a dispute with a parking company. A week before my date in court, the case against me was 'thrown out'. Another scam parking fine has been beaten! It was stressful but worth it and I was guided by the advice in the forum throughout the whole process

Total harassement

Total harassement. Total BS. They keep calling and calling and calling, even when numbers are blocked. Should be stripped of any license to operate.

And if the below is true, then what are you doing to stop other organisations masquerading as you and wasting customers time (your comments show no interest in this matter)..

Great advice from MSE…

We are a couple in our early seventies with some pre existing medical conditions which are all well managed and had no travel insurance medical claims .
Despite this, looking directly at travel insurance charges the quotes were around £1500 for annual insurance and the cheapest was £950 but did not cover cruises.
Looked at the MSE site and it suggests we consider the best bank account packages and I am very glad we did.
We have Nationwide accounts and by upgrading to their flex plus account (£18 per month, £218 per year) we get travel insurance, vehicle breakdown insurance and mobile phone insurance cover. We did have to contact Aviva re our medical conditions and had to pay an additional £259 but compared to other quotes and the additional benefits it is less than half the cheapest quote.

We also switched over to outfox the market a year ago and again this saved us money, thank you moneysavingexpert.com

Avoid this comparison website!

Avoid this comparison website. I took out a contract which offered £60 voucher so that the contract ended up significantly cheaper in net cost but I haven't received my voucher after months. The voucher provided claimed that my contract wasn't tracked and MSE weren't able to do anything about it, as if consumers don't mind making the wrong choices.

Be very careful about moneysavingexpert energy club

Be very careful about moneysavingexpert energy club. The new marketing from MSM suggests that the combined power of MSM subscribers secures improved tariffs to that which you would secure on your own. I provided all the required information on the MSM site to compare the deal MSM offered with my existing annual energy fix. The conclusion was that MSM analysis said that I would save about £240 per year by switching to another provider. When I dug into the detail of the analysis, MSM used higher Kw/hr and higher standing charge than the tariff I am on (despite me providing my correct existing tarrif). The actual real comparison was that I would pay more by switching AND pay an exit fee of £50 to my existing provider. I'm surprised that Martin Lewis continues to endorse MSM.
