Not only are they the worse car rental company I’ve ever used, it’s probably the worse company I’ve ever dealt with. I had the misfortune of using them last year whilst picking up a hire car at Fa... See more

The car drove fine. But we experienced a very bad experience a few hours after pick-up: a part on the car fell off. They blamed me for not checking that the parts where firmly attached to the car befo... See more

Do not rent with them
Do not rent with them, they give lower class of car than advertised, old car 37000 km on clock, dirty and then charge for cleaning before hire starts, after retufn they constantly debit your card without any correspondence regarding fines
I’m a Brazilian I used to leave in…
I’m a Brazilian I used to leave in Curitiba. In a nutshell do not trust this company I’ve my a contract for R$975 reais and they overcharged me R$1550 without any explanation.
Now I cannot reach them because their customer service doesn’t answer any of my questions.
Horrível o serviço de pós venda de vocês. Nenhum comprometimento com o cliente.
They do not return the security deposit…
They do not return the security deposit and make undue charges for extra things on our cards.
Movida are charging additional costs
As others have said Movida are continuously charging additional costs way after my car was returned. Usually with a car rental company they will explain the charges and additional costs upfront but these guys definitely don’t do that. I’m being charged for all sorts of stuff from cleaning the car plus other thing I have absolutely no idea about out. I was also charged excess protection when I specifically said I didn’t want it as I have a separate insurance for that but they said it’s in the contract I signed and I had to pay for it and that was said to me on the return of the car which is not acceptable. Also the car wasn’t the type I had asked for. I would be very careful if you have to use this company especially if you’re not fluent in Portuguese and I recommend trying another company with better reviews.
Totally disorganized, unfriendly, unhelpful, slow and negligent
The car ran out of oil a couple of days into our trip. We were forced to put oil in at a gas station, which they challenged on return saying we should have waited for them to deliver us a new car (although we called to check before putting it in). They had already wasted 2 hours when picking up the car (I already had a booking with them, but their process is horribly slow and they needed information I had already provided) and a further hour on the phone to modify the booking (mostly circling around in hold queues waiting for someone who could speak English). They also forgot to validate our parking ticket wasting further time on pickup (Eldorado Shopping, Sao Paulo). In Sao Carlos they tried to double charge us on fuel (we paid for the full tank at the start). Their system is completely disorganized and their staff were impolite on return (Sao Carlos). None of the attendants spoke English.
The worst Car Rental Company in Brazil
The worst Car Rental Company in Brazil! They are the most "corrupt" Company I found in Brazil. One month after our reservation, they continuously keep coming up with extra charges, and they still need to refund my deposit for the car rental! We have spent so much money with them for a month, and they do not care! I called them several times, and they hung up and are extremely slow, inefficient and corrupt! Zero customer service. For your safety, do not use their services!
Registration as a foreigner not possible
Registration as a foreigner on their website is not possible. Had a reservation and went to their office but they could not register me either as it would not accept my passport number. The worst part there is literally no customer support at all.
Beware
When renting a car in Brazil with Movida, be prepared to be treated as a potential swindler. Even if one pays rental in advance, including insurance against theft, one is asked to provide an address, and a phone number. Movida will also pdf your passport, your driver’s license, and force you to have a face picture taken. They justify such procedures saying that they need protection against swindlers and thieves. Privacy and anti-hacking laws are highly flawed in Brazil. If their system is hacked, vital information (including a face picture) might put their clients in serious trouble. Rent with Movida at your own risk, which is considerably high given their demands.
Mixed emotions, last minute rise in price and broken battery
I made a reservation to rent a car trough Movidas Chat-function. It all went quite well, i asked for a complete insurance and an extra one specifically for windows and tires since i know those aren't included normally (i verified with her 3!!! times if she added it). She gave me a price, i agreed and made the reservation.
On pickup however i discovered she didn't include that extra insurance, so on pickup they raised the price with 12brl/day. I asked for a transcript of the chat which they couldn't give me. So i had the pay up since we needed the car.
2 days into our trip (in the middle of nowhere, 2 kids in the car, no reception, getting dark, you know the traditional), the car wouldn't start anymore (i had noticed the days before the car took longer than normal to start and when picking up the car at movida the clock was blinking 00:00 so probably already reset due to battery problems before). We pushed the car for 20mins trying to start it, when by miracle it finally started. When we got to our rented house we had wifi but no phonereception, unfortunately Movida has no way to contact their assistance trough whatsapp or any other online means, only trough their 0800 number. So we called our friends on whatsapp to call their 0800 number and check the options. (even their chat isnt willing to help, they just say: call our 0800, neglecting the fact that we couldnt)
The next day the car started an we went to exchange the car in another city (3hour drive) since we had more more days to go i wouldn't risk getting stuck again. The car exchange went fluently, a little paperwork and we got the same model and were able to continue our trip without worries.
So all in all a mixed experience. I would rent with them again, but each time i learn more what to look out for.
Tips: always make a transcript or recording of your chat to prevent issues (although i doubt they would accept it even if its in front of them). If you feel something is wrong with the car, go back and exchange it, you'll lose maybe a half hour but still better than losing multiple days.
Aaarghh!
Ahh... where to begin? GIG airport pick up. 1:15 hours net time at counter for a simple registration for a prebooked car! The people behind us had to wait during that time, plus the time for their own registration! How do they even make money? Minimal English spoken by the agent. The car provided for 83 (!) days' rental (Fiat Mobi) was not in good condition: No radio antenna. The gas consumption in liters per kilometer was enormous for such a tiny car, there must have been a problem with the motor. The roof racks had been removed, leaving 4 holes, from which rain water dripped down to the passengers, enriched with rust. We could not replace it because we were traveling far away. I grant a second star here only because we returned the car a few weeks early at the station in Barra de Tijuca and that was a different experience entirely: Friendly, English speaking staff, no waiting, they even arranged a refund for the unused days (which I have not received yet, but I imagine it will arrive).
Be careful with the fuel gauge
Be careful with the fuel gauge. If you find that the tank never fills up completely call them in advance and notify the issue. Otherwise they'll try to have you pay the refill fee.
For all I know they might rig all of their cars fuel gauges to never show completely full to trick the customers into paying the extra fee.
I insisted and eventually they let me go without additional fees, but I think this is mostly due to the fact that I was talking to a nice person.
Horrible experience
Horrible experience! My location was suppose to cost me 2500 reals. I got charge 4800$! The worst part is they charge my credit card 9600$!! They charge me 2 transactions. I am been trying to talk to customer service and every time i call they said someone will call me back... 2 days later nothing is solved. I growing very impatient with this company! Their price is also higher then everyone else. I do not recommend and please research on other car rental places
Rip off
I rented a car and 2 months later recieved a charge for a car I didn't rent.I rented a white fiat mobi and was charged for running a red light in a black sante fe not sure how you could be so blind as to not be able to tell the difference so I complained and they charged me again instead of crediting my account.
Top class car rental in Brazil
Had a reservation for 14 days, from Rio Galeao. Car was a nice and clean Hyundai HB20s, 1,6 flex engine, automatic. Did over 1500 km with no issues.
Return flight cancelled due to the pandemic so couldn't return back to Rio. Dropped the car at a different branch at no extra cost considering the circumstances.
Very happy with the service provided. Staff was very helpful and friendly both in Rio and Vitoria da Conquista.
