Awful. Signage and layout is a mess, check-in staff spent most of the time on the phone or consulting colleagues as they didn’t seem experienced. Facilities in T1 after security are shocking - whateve... See more

Confusing layout and poor signage
Confusing layout and poor signage, it is strangely disorientating. Long queues at duty free, felt sorry for travellers only buying a bottle of water queuing for ages, also couldn't find anywhere to charge mobile, eventually we did only after trekking round for ages. Poor and expensive food choices too. Staff grumpy and a bit rude. Overall a very poor experience given airport is modern and spacious.
Worst airport in the world
The worst airport ive ever been, absolutely soul destroying, its like its been designed by retards!! The food is awful, the toilets are miles away! Best thing for this airport is a bulldozer
Without doubt the most inefficient…
Without doubt the most inefficient international airport in the world!!!! Be prepared for 2-3 hours to get through security and passport control in both directions. To be sure to get your flight yiu wed to be there AT LEAST 3 hours before your flight. Terrible experience all round. Avoid if you can.
Checking in at T1 for Norwegian
Checking in at T1 for Norwegian. Same self check in machines as at GVA but unlike GVA was not able to use them for skis. Got different info from 3 different staff member. Eventually figured out I had to descend one floor and walk 10 minutes to Norwegian desk. Wait 30 min until desk opens. Time from arriving at airport to finishing check in, 90 minutes. Retrace my steps and attempt to follow extremely poor signposting to my gate. Very grumpy security staff. Some clearly very lazy given the queues and their inactivity. No means of giving feedback at security (I wonder why). Eventually make it to gate after 1 hour 45 minutes. Toilets are back down 3 sets of stairs and have queues. Compared with other European airports, poorly laid out, poorly signed, no thinking about the passenger experience and grumpy staff. Local Lidl is cheaper than the ‘duty free’.
Awful, avoid if you can
Unfortunately, I have to give one star to write the review otherwise they deserve no stars. Awful staff and this is not based on speaking to one person, from ground staff (here to help staff) to immigration officers. They are all rude, we almost missed our flight because they are so slow and disorganised and nobody is there to help you. I have never seen such bad treatment at an international airport especially when you are travelling with kids.
One of the worst international…
One of the worst international airports. Have been through this airport multiple times in the past 4 years and can honestly say it is appalling. Passport control upon entry to the country took in excess of 2 hours to clear ( similar on previous trips) As a bilingual person who speaks both German and English, it is difficult to find ground staff who speak either language. Trying to exit the country can take just as long with excessive security queues. Baggage claim is just as bad - you need to allow up to 4 hours to exit this airport if you intend to clear passport control, collect baggage and hire a car. Quicker to fly to Frankfurt and drive down.
truly a failed country
truly a failed country, how can noone in Munich airport speak proper english? how do you hire your personnel? economy of 80 million ppl and you can’t find ppl who can speak the most basic foreign language?
Low-fare airline service at a premium price
Everything went smooth at the airport security and we got to our gate in good time, about 45min before boarding. We took the time and stood before the gate desk, as there was a long flight ahead. The staff was at the gate the whole time we were there, eying us.
Boarding started and we went through the gate to towards the plane. At this point a gateperson noted my luggage and waved me back to check my luggage size. It did fit to the bin, but just barely. The gateperson argued my hand luggage was oversized and would need to be placed to the checked luggage (with additional payment). They claimed that there was no room in the plane, and my luggage would not fit (although I have used the same bag with tens of flights before).
So I ended up opening my luggage in front of all queuing passengers and removed two chocolate bars I had bought from the airport as a gift to home. After removing these, I placed the bag again to the luggage check bin and it fit perfectly. The gateperson gave up and allowed me to enter the plane with my luggage.
Rules are rules, of course, but gone are the days when Lufthansa was considered a premium airline and Munich an airport with service to match it.
Just be the worst airport we’ve been to…
Just be the worst airport we’ve been to in a while. Seems very unorganized, long walking back and forth from check-in to security to passport control. Poorly staffed too. Boarding our flight from a corridor. People trying to get around from different boarding areas and people try to board in a small corridor. Unseen before. Long waits. High prices (yeah that’s probably for most airports). Terminal 1 experience.
racial discrimination at Munich Airport
The tax refund officer at Munich Airport terminal 1 showed clear racial discrimination. He ignored my request for a stamp, sat there using his phone, and openly mocked me in German with his colleague. I clearly heard the word “Asian” even though I could not understand the rest. This experience was deeply humiliating. I will never return to this airport again
Unbelievable failed experience
It really doesn’t happen often: everything was a disaster. Poor management and logistics mean that I checked in in area B and because the security check is under construction, I had them to go back to area A. That seemed like a total nonsenses
Then, fast track took me longer than ever - the length of the belt is for 1 basket. Can you imagine the speed? Then I haven’t appreciated a very intense body search.
The area itself is nothing - like 90’s airport.
But the final bit was a proper disaster: boarding. Of course we were invited 50 mins before the flight, to then wait in the bus. The bus has brought us to the airplane where we were then waiting in the sleeve which is normally used for boarding from the terminal.
I honestly haven’t experienced this useless airport treatment for a long long time. I had to pinch myself that I am in Germany.
PS none of the elevators worked and I saw disabled people struggling with the stairs to go down and up to the aircraft.
Worst aiport ive been to in germany and…
Worst aiport ive been to in germany and ive been to 5. Security was very slow, They don't have a second gear to try get things moving faster. Its like they've emplyed a bunch of idiot's that dont care about there job.
Passport control was prity much the same. There was a window free for European passports and nobody in the que, and rather asking people from the non European que to come forward like they do in any other airport the guy just sits there drinking his water looking over not caring.
Toilet Signs ahead, womans on your left then for mens toilet said up ahead. Turns out there was none then womans toilet again then mans ahead, turned out to be true this time but you go down 4 levels of stairs to get to it then you wash your hands, and dry with paper towels provided but there is no bin for them, your expected to take it with you back up thr stairs then to look for a bin.
Joke of an aiport, i fly to germany every month and this is my first in munich and i can assure you I will never be back here again
Terminal 1 at Munich is the worst
Terminal 1 at Munich is the worst. Everything about it is terrible and they hire the rudest staff at security, so rude that they made a bad day even worse by barking commands at me and pretty much groping me during the search. If I could avoid this airport I would.
Munich Airport’s layout hopeless
It’s crazy but Munich Airport’s layout simply isn’t designed for late or tight cross-terminal transfers. My SAS flight CPH- MUC landed in Terminal 1 and was delayed, by 60 minutes because of a fog over Munich airport. There’s really no built-in system (like an internal shuttle or fast-track route) that could save me.
Unlike Frankfurt, Zurich, or Vienna — which have airside transfer corridors — Munich forces everyone to exit the terminal, run through a public area between terminals and re-enter the terminal 2 via security again. I can’t believe that travelling between 3 Schengen countries is so difficult (I was on my way from Munich to Italy with air dolimiti). I had hoped Lufthansa (being a SAS) partner would have at least arranged a shuttle bus from the airplane to its own satellite terminal. And Munich is supposed to be one of the most affluent cities in the world 😳😳😳
Embarrassingly bad airport for those of…
Embarrassingly bad airport for those of us that are German/Bavarian. Very poor / non-existant signage; unintuitive lettering of departure halls; total lack of large info boards telling one to which hall and which gate to go (most notably on emerging from car rental return, and on arrival in departure hall C); yesteryear/parochial security zones (cmon, we've not had to remove laptops from bags at 'proper' airports for some years now!); po-faced staff from start to end (stop acting like prison staff... you're also im customer service!). 50 minutes to load a plane as buses in scarce supply it seems... seriously? List of dissatisfaction goes on. But improvements are never forthcoming over the years which can only suggest airport management is in denial.
Lengthy delays being processed by Passport Control
We transited through Munich airport in September 2056 (before the Beer Fest) and we were required to go through Passport Control to enter Germany and take a domestic flight to Greece. After being on a long haul flight we lined up to be processed for over an hour, as initially there was only one booth opened to process hundreds of passengers. There were no instructions as to what to do, no staff to guide and assist passengers that needed to get to a gate for flights that were due to depart. After 45 minutes of waiting, 2 more booths were opened. We watched frantic people who missed connecting flights due to the length of time for processing, it was very distressing. Passengers tried to appeal to any staff that could be found, to assist them to get to their flights, they were told no they would miss their flight. I would avoid flying into Munich airport in the future due to this experience.
Munich airport
Very confusing to find where you are going, terrible door options when waiting for flight, long delays , bad Que systems , ques in front of escalators for example just an absolute mess can’t remember the last time I went to an airport this bad
Munich Airport, avoid.
We arrived at Munich Airport on a BA flight from Heathrow and were taken by bus to a side door which led to a flight of concrete steps and a non working escalator. It then took an hour to clear passport control, there were a large number of elderly people on the flight who found the experience very stressful. I am aware that being British meant we were not able to pass through the EU passport control but we did feel we were deliberately held up.
Baggage claim is the worst
Baggage claim is the worst, 50+ min wait time to claim your baggage and the personal at baggage claim/track are clueless and not even trying to help.
