Our experience with Navy Federal’s home equity loan process was frustrating, and it was almost entirely due to the loan processing stage.
Nikki was, unfortunately, the worst mortgage loan processor we’ve ever worked with. The biggest issue was the lack of communication. We were never given realistic expectations for how long the process would take, and getting updates was nearly impossible. It felt like our loan sat for about six weeks, and during what seemed like at least half of that time, Nikki was on leave. When she returned, we were told she had been out for personal reasons, including her son’s graduation party, which only added to the delays.
Throughout the process, we repeatedly called and emailed trying to get updates, but our messages often went unanswered. It was incredibly frustrating not knowing where our loan stood or what was happening.
Once our loan was transferred to Crystal the experience completely changed. Crystal was excellent. She communicated promptly, called whenever she needed additional information, and kept us informed throughout the remainder of the process. After reaching conditional approval, everything moved much more efficiently.
While we are grateful for Crystal’s professionalism and communication, our experience with Nikki left such a negative impression that I would seriously hesitate to use another Navy Federal home equity product if she were assigned to process our loan again. The difference between the two processors was night and day.

For being a member, I am shocked at the low level of card I have and my insanely low credit limit. My credit is in the 700s, and I have premium credit cards, like Amex Platinum. I'm insulted by what I have from Navy Federal, especially as a veteran.

Very helpful in the planning and it is going well, also asked a question about borrowing money from 401 and he explained all the ups and downs.

The friendly employees. How quickly clients are serviced. Cleanliness of the space. Knowledge of the staff in the facility. There could be a few extra employees to help the massive influx of patrons.

This bank offers great credit card options, no balance transfer fees ever. I was able to consolidate everything and have the lowest interest rate around. I also have a HELOC with them. Super easy process, didn't have to leave my house. Everything was done online from application to closing. 24hr customer service is great as well, not to mention they have your back if a merchant rips you off. I had a furniture company cheat me. Big ticket. They investigated and sided with me. Great to know someone has your back against predatory companies. 5 star all the way!

I just think the fees are too high, especially when they know members have so many insufficient fund fees I mean really this is juggling out here. The phase cut it down like a Christmas tree in the forest a week before Christmas what else that’s it the fees, when all the Miller trying to do is pay bills and keep from starving it’s gotta be a better way right now. I feel like the Bank treat me like it’s just a big Check Cashing Store. That’s how I feel right now. Thanks for letting me vent.

I will be honest, i would never use Navy Fed to purchase a home again. I can not give my whole story but i did have 4 different closing dates. I had 6 diferent loan processors. We closed two weeks late. Almost issues was because of Navy federal.

It was a quick and easy process. We were able to get the best rate possible through NFCU. It was a wonderful experience.

I expected a lower interest rate. Other than that I am happy with the service and my experience with NFCU.

I love the ease of which I applied for and was approved for the loan. I also love the fact that when I went to pick up my check, everything was complete within minutes. Customer service was great.

Excellent service, always there for phone guidance. Everything went smoothly and closed ahead of our expectations.

I appreciate all the hard work the team put in with making the home buying process possible

It was extremely hard to get ahold of all the agents. They never answered their phone, returned calls from left voicemails, or replied to emails.. Closing week was so incredibly stressful, I would not recommend NavyFed as a lender to anyone looking to purchase a house. They have great rates but at what cost and headache…
