I’ve been a Nordea (Denmark) client for almost 10 years now and I’ve never experienced anything close to a negative experience. Moreover, I want to point out that when I’ve inquired about a car loan, Andreas - the personal banking advisor that handled my case - did an incredible job helping me get this loan approved in no time, offering stellar service on behalf of Nordea. Thank you!

My experience with Nordea has been extremely disappointing, particularly in terms of their service:
As a non-Danish EU citizen, it took nearly 2 months for me to secure a bank account. Upon applying at the Aarhus branch, I received dubious calls attempting to set up appointments with cooperating insurance companies (Tryg). While the caller appeared to be a genuine bank employee, direct callbacks were impossible after the initial two calls. Additionally, there was a complete lack of clarity regarding the status of my account setup or an estimated timeframe for availability. Shockingly, the central call center (which I hesitate to call a service center) was unaware of the processing status in Aarhus and provided me with inaccurate information.
When I tried to open a trading account for stocks, an additional basic account was mistakenly established. Despite the hotline acknowledging the error and deeming the document for eBoks signature irrelevant, no progress was made in setting up the trading account. After a month of waiting and being assured that everything was proceeding smoothly, I discovered otherwise during another call today (couple of weeks later): The service employee revealed that no progress had been made since I declined the erroneous additional account. It was the third instance of receiving false information via the hotline.
After less than a year of being a customer, Nordea has already proven to be an unreliable partner, especially with investments on the horizon. It's time to find a bank that I can trust more.

I have tried to close my bank account for more than 2 years. They haven't taken care of it yet. But I don't have access to it anymore. it's impossible to contact them either.

I wrote them more than two weeks ago asking a small change in one of my accounts. There is no way for me to change this myself.
I haven't even received an answer. I can understand if something takes longer, but I haven't even got a reply.
I wrote them 2 more times since, trying to follow up on this, but nothing.
Honestly... 12 working days are not enough to reply to a mail?

UPDATE:
Nordea got back to me after nearly 3 weeks. They have been denying my request (a simple change in the ownership of a joint account) ever since. The reason why they can't help me changes from message to message. First they were "not allowed" to do that. After I asked who is disallowing it they changed the reason to "they can't offer it".
They are expecting us to close two accounts and create new ones, changing mortgages and dozens of betalingsservices ourselves, instead of them changing the ownership of the accounts. This would mean hours of work for us.
I have also reached out to the complaint department of Nordea. They promised a reply in 48 hours, but there has been obviously no reply from them since the 1st of Feb.
It is ridiculous how little Nordea cares about its customers.

Best service from Andreas at Nordea! It looks like Andreas knows what exceptional customer service means. It is almost hard to explain in words but he went out of his way understanding our situation and made things happen so fast that even my husband said it was unheard! Kudos to Nordea for having such an amazing dedicated people!

Extremely disappointed with their security and online services. Nordea decided to launch a mandatory online survey to get customers to update their personal and financial information - which would be all fine, if it wasn't because they block your account until you answer, and you can't really answer it because the survey submission doesn't work. I have been trying to do it for two weekends in a row, and each time there has been a different problem. Last weekend, the survey simply wouldn't show completely; this weekend, the survey shows a message saying some information is missing - but without saying exactly what is missing (nothing seems to be). Customer support answer was "we know there is a problem (there was one since last weekend) but there is nothing we can do now. I can give you the phone number of another colleague so you can call him tomorrow". So here I am, with Nordea not being able to provide me with the one fundamental thing banks are supposed give to its customers - which is safe access to their own money.
This is on top of regular issues with Nordea blocking my account and having to call them and hear from them how kind they are for unblocking it for free, any time I make online purchases above a spend limit I never chose nor agreed to.
Very disappointed with this part of their service and now strongly considering moving my account to another bank.

I've been a loyal Nordea customer for years, but the service quality has seriously declined. On January 4th, I noticed an incorrect debit for annual interest. This could not have been true as my bank account had never been overdrawn during 2023. Consequently, I wrote to Nordea on 4 January. I received no response and, therefore, sent a reminder on 09 January to my Nordea Adviser, who responded she was sorry for the delay and would revert quickly. After waiting 5 more days and not hearing back from Nordea. I called Nordea customer service on 14 January. The person I talked to deeply apologised and promised I would hear back from Nordea the next day, i.e., on January 15th. Again, no one contacted me back, and on 16 January I called again their customer service, who promised I would hear back from Nordea very soon. I also requested that a new, responsive and customer oriented adviser be assigned to me. On 18 January, Nordea informed me that the negative interests they debited were a mistake from their side (it was not reassuring to learn that such mistakes could be made by a bank!). Nordea confirmed they would fix the problem and assign a new adviser to me. While waiting to be notified of the name of my new advisor and to hear that the interest problem had been fixed, I realised that Nordea had credited back to my account the interest amount that they had debited by mistake without notifying me, let alone apologising for their mistake! Furthermore, I am still waiting to hear who my new adviser is, and to be contacted by him/her. Ten years ago I would have given Nordea 5 stars, today I only give 2 stars. Needless to say that I am now looking for an alternative bank after decades of loyalty to Nordea. If Nordea does not care for me, I won't care for Nordea

No Clear Policy, All are in trial and error method. After mitId approval again need to call to customer care to get my fund release. Which is blocker, I should think about there working hours before planning to send money to someone. They are living in pre internet era during 5G time.

terrible customer service, once you pass the bots you have to wait hours to get customer service. EDIT: sadly, the reply from mathias down below took 37 mins as opposed to the 4 hours it took me to reach a human being in customer service :(

Worst of the worst of the worst customer service. They never reply back to emails, its taking 2 months already to open a private account for me. A total failure bank. Most probably they will immidiately reply to this bad review.
Update: just like I said before, they most probably will reply faster to a bad review rather than to our emails.

Applied for a bank account a while ago and still haven’t received it and therefore haven’t gotten my salary since September. I understand that the process is taking long, but I mean it shouldn’t take this long. Especially since I have Nordea in Sweden too..
Nice staff tho

I honestly can't understand why other people are complaining. I am a new customer with Nordea, applied for a car loan. They moved very fast, something like a week and a half to open an account for me and my wife (you need to be their customer to get a loan) + approved the loan. Everybody that I spoke to was very nice, they were professional, moved fast, solved the small issues that appeared along the way, right now I just hope that it stays like this in the future. Also, everybody spoke English which is a big ++. Thank you Trine :)

My recent visit to Nordea's office in Vesterport left me utterly frustrated and disappointed. The encounter highlighted a glaring lack of understanding and professionalism on the part of their staff, particularly when it comes to assisting international individuals.
Upon entering the bank, I approached a staff member to inquire about setting up a bank account. Instead of receiving helpful guidance, I was met with a series of baffling questions. When I mentioned that I didn't currently have a job, the staff member incredulously asked me why I needed a bank account.
Allow me to clarify this point for Nordea: In Denmark, having a bank account is essential for everyday life. It's not merely a luxury; it's a necessity. Without a Danish bank account, one cannot access services like MobilePay, receive SU (educational grant), or benefit from rental subsidies (Nemkonto). These are fundamental aspects of living and studying in Denmark.
When I explained my situation, emphasizing that I am a student living off savings and family support while actively seeking employment, the response I received was perplexing. The staff member informed me that there is a supposed rule preventing international individuals from opening accounts unless they are employed. This rule contradicts common sense and practicality. In Denmark, many job applications require applicants to have a bank account to facilitate payment, making this "rule" self-defeating.
What's even more frustrating is the lack of clarity regarding this supposed rule. When I inquired if this policy was common across all Danish banks, the staff member couldn't provide a straightforward answer, which left me even more bewildered.
In essence, my visit to Nordea's Vesterport office was not only unhelpful but also deeply unprofessional. It is imperative for a bank of Nordea's stature to have staff members who are knowledgeable, courteous, and capable of assisting diverse customers effectively. Sadly, my experience fell far short of these expectations.
I sincerely hope Nordea takes this feedback to heart and reevaluates its approach to serving international customers, as this experience was not only frustrating but also detrimental to their reputation.

I wanted to open a Business Bank Account, as I am stably working as a Cleaner since a year and I needed a Danish Bank account. The manager refused to help me with it, and I am not going to mention now all the reasons but nor did I get help with any kind of solution but I rather felt kicked out of the Bank for being self employed. So if you are self employed and you don't have a private bank account since years by them you don't get a Business account. And if you want a private Account, you don't get that because you are self employed. So Nordea is not for you. And they even expect you to fail within the first couple of years of being self employment because that's what most of the people do anyway. So they are not going to take the risk of serving you! Don't even think about it! Thanks for the nothing Nordea.

My first account in Denmark was at Nordea (colleagues recommended). Later I've changed to an "internet bank" that offered some services which had a better value but eventually it had financial problems and the bank that acquired it also had financial problems and the next bank that acquired it had financial problems, so it changed the name several times and the final owner didn't offer any better services any longer. In fact, when it came to the point, I was thinking about buying my own apartment they told me that I need to stop using better services and products from other financial institutions and start accumulating deposit in their bank proving that I can actually save up for the monthly payments. That would be fine BUT they wanted to "observe" me for the whole year before considering for the mortgage loan. I didn't want to wait that long. I recalled that one of my former colleagues, a foreigner could buy an apartment with help of Nordea and contacted them again. They looked into my finances and agreed to "observe" just for 3 months which was reasonable and I've got eventually my "loan guarantee" which I however didn't use as I've changed my mind. Yes, some other "banks in smartphone" might offer some new products but they often fail to provide basic bank service like having possibility to have receipt for a payment (I had to take the screen print from my phone as that was the only way to have a proof of payment!). I never had a problem with a standard bank service or product. I've also noticed that the bank invested in hiring a lot of call center officers as I never had to wait for longer than a couple of minutes when calling from within my mobile bank. During the last long Easter holidays I had an urgent task of establishing the Bank Guarantee with a short deadline and Josephine was kind to assist me so it was done in good time without causing me trouble for not meeting the deadline. It was nice to notice that they've expanded and recently opened a new office around the corner from my Amager place. ATMs with possibility to put cash on my account or buy USD or EUR are just a bike ride away. So my spouse got recently also the first account in Denmark at Nordea as well! Hiccups happen sometimes. But same Josephine has just handled a recent misunderstanding very professionally. So, I'm happy with this bank as the main bank for me and my spouse. No plans to change!
