First time I am using TrustPilot but my experience today with Nordea was so infuriating that I had to come and describe what a disgusting bank Nordea is.
I am switching to Revolute after being a Nordea customer for 12 years. My dissatisfaction stems from what I can only describe as subpar customer service and a marked absence of professionalism exhibited by their staff. To elaborate, approximately 16 days prior, I executed an overseas transfer totalling 2600 EUR. As of now, the recipient has not received the deposit. After 2 weeks of assuming the receiving bank to be at fault for not locating the deposited amount, I contacted my bank Nordea. They said that they actually have not send the money yet, claiming system error while promising to send the money right away. However, after this reassurance, I waited 3 days and contacted them again since the money was still not sent according to the recipient.
Upon further inquiry, they claimed they were verifying the transaction's legitimacy. The thing is, they didn't bother telling me any of this for two weeks, so I had to keep calling to find out what's going on.
Funnily enough, the bank possesses records of two active email addresses associated with my account, either of which could have been used for communication regarding this matter. Instead, the bank opted for a lack of communication, thereby leaving me in an agitated state. It’s as if they feel entitled to hold onto my money like it is their personal money! The ridiculously terrible customer service (lack of communication) is a giant red flag. Transparency matters and ironically, the bank that blocks my overseas transfer claiming investigations for transparency purposes, lacks transparency towards their customers!

It is just an apsolute terror of a bank and country that is trying to make everything as much complicated as possible. Why do you not let people see their card numbers on the app? Is it again one of new security features? And then you try to solve the problem, you log in to the bank, log in via legendary MitId and try sending message to bank and then in order to confirm sending log in again to NemId and then a surprise, they now ask to scan some codes, you need 10minutes to understand how to disable it in order to log in into NemId with you password only and then a big surprise you need to wait for 60minutes in order for system to update.. Absolute horor!!

Having them pushing down my throat their support for so certain people and see it on my app is really not that great I should be able to chose what to support and what not to support with all respect

Really hard to get a straight answer out of them, when it comes to costs and what they are actually charging you. Who knows, could be my fault as I speak english. I'm very frustrated right now, and will definitely change bank, just for the level of service. I can only assume they have no customer retention program..or maybe private customers are just not that valuable to them (or maybe english speaking ones).
(As they still have my money, this review is not with the email linked to my account for fear of some retaliation)

I just want to share for everyone who want to apply for a house loan. They said to me first: I have proof for this:(it's a ridiculous amount of 400,000)
-for having the house loan you need to have 25,000 kr in your account. (It's written this olso on the website)
After having the amount of 25,000kr: we sorry about this it's was a new colleague she didn't know you need to have 75,000 kr in the account.
I go personally to the bank and they said to me if I have 50,000kr it's good.
Finally I succeeded to put in the account 90,000 kr and get rejected.
In the shortest time, my wife and I will no longer be your clients. The worst bank ever 😫 lossing my time .....
I don't need a bank that can't help me ...

Two and a half months since we first met with Nordea to open two private accounts as well as one for our business. We were informed by phone that we are approved two weeks ago, and told that they'd get back to us to finalize everything, and then NOTHING.
We are now in a situation where we need to issue invoices to two clients for more than 200,000 DKK, but are forced to do so via our company branch in Dubai because we STILL don't have our Danish company account set up. Needless to say this is causing a big headache in terms of VAT, tax reporting etc, all of which could have been easily avoided if only the bank moved faster.
The trainee who were handling our case is apparently on holiday - who knows when he'll be back 🤷🏽♀️
Come on, Nordea, you need to move much much faster than this!

One of the darkest periods in my life in all I can remember and have been through is being a customer at this bank, the physiology pain and hatred I went through from this bank in overwhelming, little or no regards for my being through twisted discrimination and animosity I experience I felt from them often made me physically sick and very clinical depressed, I would never recommend this bank to anyone, only to those I deeply hate, the worst period in my life.

Good morning,
I am a Nordea customer living outside of Denmark. Computers are not my primary skill...
And for international operations, this can be a problem.
Passing through Copenhagen, I was lucky enough to be able to speak at the counter of the Vesterbrogade agency with Mr. Adhurim.
I am very grateful to him for his long patience and help.
A complicated money transfer has long been a nightmare for me alone.
His simplicity, his time, his kindness, his advice and his technical efficiency finally managed to sort it out for me.
On my experience very few people do this.
Thanks to Mr. Adhurim, from Nordea bank in Vesterbrogade, Copenhagen.

Story of trying to open a Nordea basic bank account:
1) I don’t remember why, probably cos of a messy landing page design, but I ended up chatting to the chat bot to find out where to make an application online to open a new account. The link provided to “open account” by the bot led to a “page does not exist” message.
2) I call, and I’m advised that since I don’t have a Danish passport, I need to go physically to the branch. I am also asked if I have a job (?!?!) and I say I am looking for one
3) at the branch I am again asked if I have a job and then I get stopped there - If you don’t have a job, we cannot open a bank account for you. Of course this was not highlighted on the phone, so I was not saved by this disgrace of an experience. I am an EU citizen, residing in Denmark, and Nordea says there is “a European law” according to which they can’t accept customers without a job to be their clients.
The lady I spoke to was rude, laughed at me for being surprised, and advised me to use the card from “my country” for my daily expenses. When I requested for this answer to be put in writing so that I can further investigate the legality of this practice, I was encountered with a smirk and a question of “you? You are a lawyer?”. Oh, and yes, I’m still waiting for said email.
By the way I called Danske Bank and they are not aware of said European law. When I mentioned to the Nordea banker she was very surprised…….
Not only am I disappointed by the service - if you treat new customers like this, it can only be downhill from there, but also there was a total lack of courtesy and respect in the way I was talked to.
Farewell Nordea, I hope you learn to treat future and current customers better.
EDIT: Dear Christina, I don’t understand your follow up. I scheduled a time to be called, and your colleague did in fact get in touch with me on Friday 23rd June 2023 at 10:39, and we spoke for 11 minutes. So I am not sure why you say they did not manage to get through to me?
I am however waiting for a response in writing where you deny me access to a bank account on the grounds of being a jobseeking foreigner residing in Denmark, as specified in a “European law”. Your customer service confirmed this on the phone, but was unable to point to the specific policy, but they say “it’s there”.
So yes, I am waiting.
EDIT 2: Thanks, Christina, for editing your message and clarifying you needed me to reschedule a call with you.
Summary of "the good talk" with Lene leader of Nordea Roskilde:
1) they refuse to put anything in writing. Surprise surprise. Amazing how a bank can refuse a customer based on a 30 second chat - superior KYC process! - and be able not to give their decision and reasoning in writing.
2) "very sorry we didn't understand your husband was already a client. That would have changed things, of course" UNBELIEVABLE! I cannot believe that an unemployed woman would be allowed a bank account by Nordea, IF her husband was already a client.
3) I must have misunderstood the European Law part........ of course! Shameful...
OUTCOME: They refuse to put anything in writing, they offer me a bank account (because of my husband) and promise to do better in the future.
No, thanks.
Please Nordea, review "the European Law". Here are the details & some key points your might find useful. Maybe it's time to review your KYC processes to be... more legal?
Directive 2014/92/EU on the comparability of fees related to payment account.
Directive 2004/38
Member States like Denmark should guarantee that consumers like you who intend to open a payment account are not discriminated against on the basis of their nationality. While it is important for credit institutions to ensure that their customers are not using the financial system for illegal purposes such as fraud, money laundering or terrorism financing, they should not impose barriers to consumers who want to benefit from the advantages of the internal market by opening and using payment accounts on a cross-border basis.
Consumers who are legally resident in the Union should not be discriminated against by reason of their nationality or place of residence, or on any other ground referred to in Article 21 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union (the Charter ) when applying for, or accessing, a payment account within the Union. Furthermore, access to payment accounts with basic features should be ensured by Member States irrespective of the consumers financial circumstances, such as their employment status, level of income, credit history or personal bankruptcy.

Not long ago, Nordea made a big fuss about how they have retracted their investments from companies that don't fulfill their ESG standards. Despite that it was documented that this was seemingly just lies to please loud mouthed NGOs, as one of these companies had indeed passed their requirements, Nordea stuck to their story.
Same Nordea is, according to themselves, still invested in companies that contribute to Russian state finances and, based on their comments, their only concern is seemingly how this company (possibly one of multiple investments) will be affected by boikots - not whether this is an ethical investment.
Sometimes it's better to have no standards at all than double standards!
Summary:
Over all experience is extremely satisfying. They are friendly, and quite understanding. They are also very capable and experienced within their respective fields.
Products:

- House loan
- Car loan
- Investment portfolio
Good things:
- Low interest rates
- Great customer support

Things to improve:
- Mobile app invoice payment doesn’t work from savings accounts
Would recommend to a friend?
Yes

None of the bank's communication lines are working. The online chat is never answered and waiting line for calls is atleast 80 minutes each time. they also have no option to call back- which most places have. communication is a nightmare!

I've been a customer at Nordea Denmark for around 12 years. I have my personal and one-person company accounts there. During that time I have been a good customer. I don’t have a lot of money going through those accounts and I have no loans with Nordea, so Nordea doesn’t make much money off of me, but I’m a steady customer that keeps her accounts in balance.
Recently I applied to Nordea to open an account for an association I am part of starting. I submitted all the documents that were already approved by Virk.dk. Nordea rejected the documents on the ground that they disagreed with the way the articles of association was drafted. I asked for more details about in which way the document was written incorrectly. The Nordea representative was reluctant, but agreed to call back with more info. He returned to tell me some vague reasons. I said I more than happy to change the document and the arrangement of the board to meet the bank's requirements, and he told me straight up not to bother because Nordea does not consider reapplications of associations. This to start is a very bad policy, and I understood between the lines right there that Nordea preferred to not have me as a customer. Associations are such a fundamental part of the Danish society, and as they are designed to be something regular citizens can start, it seems only natural and common that we will make mistakes in founding documents. For those reasons alone, Nordea should have offered to give me advice and encouraged me to resubmit an improved application.
A month later or so, I received a call from Nordea saying that they would shut down all my accounts if I received one more deposit in my business account related to the association. I explained to them that my company is an event management company and that it (I) am tasked with handling all the project management for the association, which is an annual event. I asked Nordea if I had done anything illegal, and the rep said that I wasn't doing anything illegal, but it was still against the Nordea policy for me to use my business account for association activities. I offered to have the board of the association write a letter confirming that they had agreed on this arrangement between my business and the association. The rep continued to talk to me like I was guilty of something, no matter how I tried to re-explain the situation. There were several times he spoke to me as if he was trying to catch me in a lie. Of course, I felt threatened, because I was being told that I would have all my accounts shut down if there was one more payment received related to the association event (which I knew would most certainly happen within the week as the event was at that time occurring). The rep then sent me a letter requesting me to provide documentation for about 10 transactions to prove that what I was saying was true (he did not request the letter from the board). I considered doing this, but then realized that this was an absurd waste of my time, as the invoices and receipts would only show the VAT number of my business on the transactions and that the transactions were related to the associations event. This would in no way prove that my company had the right to handle these transactions. So I could predict that I would be ‘proven guilty’, based on a premise that did not include the specifics of my situation. So instead of sending the documents I simply moved all my banking to a new bank. I understand that there are sensible and legal reasons for banks to do background checks on the movement of money between different types of accounts, especially to prevent money laundering. There was nothing in my case or in my customer history that would imply that I had done something illegal. This was a gross overuse of power on the part of Nordea, on a long-time customer who is working with small amounts of money that are applied to cultural events for the Danish society. My educated guess is that the background reasons for Nordea to behave like this is really because it’s more profitable for Nordea to get rid of customers like me, while also claiming that they are fighting financial crime by picking on small fish like me, rather than the big guys that matter. I’m disgusted by the customer service of Nordea, but not surprised.

I am not surprised to see 2.8 rating for this bank and lots of 1 stars due to their s***** customer service. I made some overseas payments in last months and last week I received a letter asking I should give explanation for those payments within a week. I later made a call to clarify that it seemed weired that bank is asking about why and whom I have made those payments to but the representative rather than explaining said I must do it as it is required and he can’t say anything more. I further inquired about how to provide those and agreed to do so.
Now the last date to provide info was Friday but due to my visit abroad I couldn’t get time for said task. I neither got any reminder nor I had been informed why that information is needed and what could happen in case of not providing that information. But today when I saw an unknown payment in my account and when I called regarding that, the customer service representative after knowing the purpose of the call started behaving rudely and refused to provide me the service. He said because I didn’t provide that information so I will not be provided any service. I explained him that I am abroad and he can see it from my card transactions so as soon as I reach home I will give all the required details. But atm I am sitting with this query which he can resolve but he completely denied me of any service without sending me any prior information and notice pertaining that. I am extremely disappointed because of getting this low level and sick customer service. I am just wondering if I would have been in emergency situation I would be left like this forcing me to full fill the banks requirements or facing penalty that also without informing!
Well I think intentionally you are missing the point here.
I was not trying to make a payment. It is ok to hold my payment until I do not provide the information. It is about REFUSING TO PROVIDE ME ANY SERVICE and that also without informing me about it.

We recently bought an apartment in Denmark and had a very positive experience with Nordea. I would definitely recommend Nordea if you consider buying a property.
Our advisor, Oliver Peters has been very professional, service minded and highly knowledgeable about all the details in the purchasing process. He guided us through the different options and answered all our questions thoroughly. We appreciated his financial advice and the good discussion and sparring to decide about the type of loan that suits our economy. Thank you for a great service!
Best regards,
Katerina & Kostas
