I'm very disappointed with the room the curtains on both sides were all ripped very badly. If you were in bed you couldn't watch the TV, it was to low down. The staff were brilliant and at breakfast my wife got egg benadict that was cold even the plates were cold.

Very good, but expensive

The first visit of my wife and i to stay at Northcote hotel, and sample the restaurant, on a gourmet package overnight break.
The squab pigeon was outstanding, and the venison paired perfectly with the amarone. Good selection of fine wines by the glass.
The room, service and breakfast were all excellent.
However the value for money was not great, so 4* only, not 5*.

Stunning fine dining experience

This was, I believe, our first visit since covid. We've visited quite a few times, and stayed on several occasions, even though it's only 40 minutes away, just because it rounds out a wonderful experience.
This was no different. It was our 25th wedding anniversary, and we just opted for lunch.
The decor hasn't changed, but has stayed fresh and sharp. The staff were truly magnificent, as always, and really help to set the tone, which is just the perfect balance of formal yet relaxed and modern.
They all really do a great job.
The food, however... aaaahh the food.
It always used to be excellent. On this visit, though, it was simply beyond belief.
The depth and intensity of flavour delivered in every last morsel was just beyond compare. We've eaten several great (Michelin and so forth) restaurants, and I can honestly say that I don't think I've ever had anything better than the lunch I had yesterday. Really. It's hard to single out any one thing, but the chicken tortellini was absolutely mind blowing.
One thing to bear in mind is that this is genuine fine dining. Don't expect fancy pub grub. Don't expect large portions.
This is food as art. Don't get me wrong, I didn't come away hungry, but when your plate is mostly empty when it arrives - that's deliberate. At least one reviewer here seems to have been new to this concept, which is fine, but it's a shame they give one star for something that is a deliberate design choice, and is perfectly normal in fine dining.
At the moment, Northcote are simply displaying culinary art at its very best.
I wish I could give six stars.

Wow what is there not to like!

Wow what is there not to like! this is our 2nd visit and stay and we will be back for more. The food is exceptional not that we expected anything less, the room was lovely but more than any of that was the service and the team there. So much for them to be proud of, each member is friendly and very personable and they care about you and want you to have the best stay and experience.

My husband and I spent a fabulous night with taster menu at The Northcote on Saturday. It was superb to say the least. Staff were attentive but not over the top. Food was wonderful. The rooms are gorgeous! We’ve recommended it to friends at home. Wish it were closer to us!!

Pre Covid food poisoning.

Pre covid my partner and I had an overnight stay with dinner at Northcote. Unfortunately I contracted quite severe food poisoning from my main course (a trout dish). It was bad enough to require medical intervention. Due to the seriousness of the incident Craig Bancroft by way of compensation offered a complimentary package. Covid lockdown prevented us taking the offer and since covid restrictions I have had no reply to emails asking when we can take the offer. I feel ignored and seriously disappointed. As anyone would .

Good.

Good.

I ordered the gourmet box “classic menu box”.

Excellent packaging, arrived on time, logistics functioned perfectly.

The food was excellent and instructions were very clear.

Given a significant portion of the price must relate to packaging and logistics, I considered the overall price to be fair, neither cheap nor overpriced.

A lot of money for not very much

On Saturday 24 August we (8 people) celebrated my daughters 50th birthday with a meal from their Taster menu. I should like to say that I viewed this as a rip off! The story of the ‘Kings new clothes’ came to mind, it was blindingly, obviously, poor value for money! The people who looked after us were superb I must say, but the content of each course was minimalist! I could have bought the ingredients for less than £10 per person! I was still hungry when we left, even after filling up with bread between courses. I object to paying £200 per couple, approximately, and find it disturbing. I went along with as it was my daughter call
Needless to say I will not be attending this venue again!

I have been going to Northcote for over 15 years and it’s just wonderful.
Sadly they expanded a couple of years ago and that ‘finishing edge’ and ‘personal touch’ is no longer present along with the management. Shame because it is lovely food.
