I have recently finished my 12 week…

I have recently finished my 12 week pain management program at at the Nuffield gym Hull branch.
I was greeted warmly by reception staff on entering and leaving the building.
The facilities are very good and all areas are kept clean and fit for purpose.
The lady tasked with overseeing my health and wellbeing was a fantastic lady called Sarah Codd who took great care of everyone’s health and wellbeing in her students.
Her ability to teach, help & encourage her classes are second to none.
I would strongly advise anyone with pain and mobility issues to sign up for this course you won’t be disappointed and your health will definitely improve (if prepared to engage in all aspects of the classes).

If you go to the gym to improve your mental wellbeing do not join Nuffield.

My mental wellbeing is negatively impacted by being member of the gym. The customer relations is one of the worst I have encountered. The main and only reason why I am a member of this gym is to use the swimming pool for lane swimming which is the only cardio workout that is suitable for me. I am an advanced yoga practitioner and every single yoga class they offer is extremely easy and the instructors are not great. As a result, I am a member of a yoga centre and only maintain my membership of Nuffield for the pool. The pool is very often closed for hours or days because either the lifeguard did not show up or because something has failed. On the this most recent occasion it has been closed for days yet they did not think it helpful to send daily communications informing the members that the pool is closed. I have wasted an hour of my very little free time to get to the gym at 8:30 pm this evening , change into the swimming gear only to find out the pool is closed. How inconsiderate is it not to inform members with frequent communications and updates so that people do not waste their time coming on site? I never get a discount for all the days lost of facilities not being available and their swimming pool is unavailable very many times each month for long periods of time. It is a matter of a simple email not to cause disruption and aggravation by wasting people’s time.

Hi Georgia,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

We're sorry to hear about your experience and the frustration caused by the recent pool closures. We appreciate how disappointing it must be to make the journey to the club and only discover that the pool is unavailable after arriving.

We also recognise the importance of keeping members informed when key facilities are unexpectedly out of service, and we're sorry that the communication on this occasion did not meet your expectations.

Your comments regarding pool availability and member communications have been noted and will be shared with the relevant teams for review.

Thank you again for bringing your concerns to our attention.

With regards,

Ben

Staff are rude at reception

Staff are rude at reception, the showers and changing areas are mouldy and some of the equipment either doesn’t work or it’s broken - for over a year there are signs on equipment to say it’s out of order.

Excellent experience at Parkside

Excellent experience at Parkside Hospital. I had a robotic knee replacement. The staff on the floor who looked after me were particularly efficient and helpful, attentive and not intrusive. The post op physiotherapy was prompt and extremely useful.

Doctor Yoong Gastroenterologist

Doctor Yoong the Consultant Gastroenterologist was kind and took the time to listen to my concerns. He explained my treatment plan and diagnosis and answered every question that I had without making me feel rushed. He was calm thorough and reassuring. His attention to detail and genuine concern made all the difference. From the Receptionists to the Nurses and Radiologists everyone was welcoming and professional I truly felt valued and cared for.

I am preparing to have a total knee replacement at Nuffield, North Staffs and I cannot be happier with the support and information I have been given so far.
I am certainly not looking forward to the procedure, but I am much more at ease after my interactions with the nursing, physical therapy, and pharmacy staff.
They do an outstanding job.

Dr Alya Abdul-Wahab was exceptional

Dr Alya Abdul-Wahab was exceptional. She was warm, attentive and thoroughly professional, taking the time to listen carefully, explain her thinking clearly and ensure that I felt completely looked after. What particularly impressed me was her follow-up afterwards, including taking the time to call me personally. As someone who works professionally in psychology, I greatly value that combination of clinical expertise, communication and genuine care. Dr Abdul-Wahab is a true professional and a real credit to Nuffield Health.

Oops, they did it again

I wrote a review here before, about a manufactured confrontation, a ban with no evidence behind it, and a "thorough review" that turned out to be nothing of the sort. It's worth remembering how this started: a member moved to a different bench so someone else could use "theirs". That's it. That's the original "incident".

I said then that Nuffield lost any claim to integrity. It continues to make the case for me.

Here's what keeps happening, and here's the question that keeps not getting answered: why would an honest, competently run organisation behave this way?

Why fabricate an allegation rather than check one? Why call it a "thorough review" when no review, and no report, ever existed? Why tell a member that "further correspondence will not be answered" instead of answering it? Why let the one piece of objective evidence that could have settled the matter – CCTV – get destroyed after it had been formally requested, and call that an "administrative oversight"? Why refuse to correct a record you can't substantiate, rather than simply substantiate it? Why ignore a second, separate, statutory data request, past its legal deadline, without so much as an acknowledgement?

None of these are hard questions for an organisation with nothing to hide. Nuffield hasn't answered a single one. Not to me, and not, as far as I can tell, to itself.

My experience has been poor so far but…

My experience has been poor so far but I should state I haven’t actually seen anyone yet. When I made the original enquiry I was told they the secretaries needed to call me rather than me call them and they would be emailed my details to do so. Over a week passed and no call back. I chased, same result, nothing.
Finally
I asked for contact details of a manager and I got called a few hours later. I could answer but they left a direct dial number, which I called and sat on hold for a while (no message, no option to leave a message, just hold music). When it was finally answer the agent didn’t have any of my details and made me feel like I was the issue! First appointment is over 2 months away which isn’t great but given there isn’t any alternative I guess I have to live with that.
I’ll post a follow up once I’ve actually been seen but management should take note that the experience to date hasn’t been great.

They just asked for my contact details but without providing me with a method to give them! My name is clearly against this review, they have my contact details already.

They have now reached out for my details the right way.

Joint Pain Programme

I signed up for the joint pain programme at the Nuffield in Hemel Hempstead and I've finished my first 12 weeks that are lead by an instructor, i had the option of different classes and 2 different instructors and I chose Hayley's classes. I'm so glad I did because she is the most genuine, funny and lovely person and so down-to-earth. The way she adapts the exercises to help us if we're struggling is brilliant and at the start of the class she always asks if we're okay and what's particularly hurting that day and she takes a genuine interest and wants the best for us and doesn't push us beyond our limits. Class never feels boring or repetitive and I'm genuinely going to miss the classes after the 12 weeks as I've never been able to stick to exercise for this long without the knowledge on how to help myself. Also being able to access the gym floor and swimming has been helpful, being able to swim has helped me Immensely as I can do my exercises in the water. The motivation I get from the class is so beneficial as not only do I have disabilities and chronic pain I am also neurodiverse, none of this was too much for Hayley to help with/manage and being part of a group with similar problems is also beneficial because we could all relate to each other and I've made friends for life with other members. Our age range in our group was from 18 up to 60+ so nobody will ever feel too young or too old. I wish there was an option to extend the instructor lead classes beyond the first 12 weeks because being in constant pain and feeling unwell can leave you isolated but being part of this group helps take that away. I can't thank Hayley enough for how much she has helped me and my confidence over the last nearly 12 weeks, she is a credit to Nuffield and they're very lucky to have her on their team. This programme run by Nuffield and for free for the first 6 months and then discounted is top tier and bridges the gap for people in pain but unable to afford help, id been stuck for 7 years in the same cycle but now I'm finally making improvements.

The reception staff were not welcoming unfortunately which was very off putting on two occasions. Thankfully the consultant seemed more sympathetic and professional. The MRi lady was extremely kind and helpful.
I truly hope they can smile and be more welcoming, helpful and kind to visiting customers it's the least they can do.
