If I could give them less than 1-star

If I could give them less than 1-star, I would. Absolutely appalled. I’ve purchased 3 pairs of Detention lace-up school shoes for my son in 2025. The first pair deteriorated within the first month of wear at which point we took them back in store to get a refund. We were then told that a refund could not be issued and so instead, they replaced them.

4 days after they were replaced, I noticed the state of my sons shoes and he was then accused of unknowingly swapping them with another child at school because they looked several years old (worn & torn). I then replaced the shoes on Sunday 13/07 and SIX hours later when he wore them home from school on Monday (14/07) afternoon, they were so deteriorated that I was in utter disbelief.

Immediately I sent an email to the refund team (Monday 14/07, 18:31hrs). Their response? An accusation that I’d fabricated the amount of time the shoes had been in use for. Even after providing the receipt. Not an ounce of accountability, but instead a statistic to prove that they are not in fact a faulty item because the return & complaint amount is only 1%.

I cannot be the 1% consumer to receive 3 pairs of FAULTY shoes consecutively in 2025 alone.

They are unwilling to provide a reasonable solution in the meantime, other than “a refund cannot be issued until our product team have reviewed the shoe, however from the images and the wearing of the sole these shoes have been worn for longer than a 6 hour school day.”

Their customer service is abysmal, and their product quality is equally as bad. I have now spent collectively $160 + the purchase of a different brands shoes so that my son can have warm, dry, fit-for-purpose footwear.

#1Shoes are scammers

Worst experience ever.
My daughter saved up to buy new running shoes (online), it arrived on time, she wore them twice and both times during running she ended up taking them off because they felt funny, we get home noticed one shoe was size 3 the other a 4. Thats alright, emailed #1Shoes and Deborah was going to fix the situation. She didn't, I emailed 2 more times no reply, lost my cool all of a sudden Deborah replied, I don't care now it's been 3 months, bad review for you. Scumbag scammers. Don't trust them, never going back.

Really bad and poor customer service

Really bad and poor customer service . I brought a shoes for my son on 28th Dec and I brought wrong size and my son just worn it in the store even I didn’t check properly. It has some scratches on bottom of shoes. Today went to there store to change the size and they declined to change it because they think he worn it like a years now . The Manager talking tone was very disrespectful not helpful at all. And just blame on me that it’s my fault . How disgusting they are . I would never recommend to anyone to do shopping from them not helpful. I normally did shopping but from this customer I would never do shopping again from them and also not recommend to anyone. Just waste of money.

Unhelpful management

Unhelpful management.
I bought a pair of Hush Puppies boots from Tower Junction shop & also a pair of shoes under the 2nd pair, half price deal. I only wore the boots once a week, but after a few months the rubber soles of the boots were worn away.
I took them back to the shop & spoke to the manager who tried her best to raise her middle finger to me.
When it became obvious I wasn’t going away she eventually offered a refund.
I suggested it would be cheaper & better for the environment for them to have the boots re soled, rather than put in the landfill, but she wouldn’t entertain the idea.
When I decided to take the refund she then ripped me off, saying the 2nd pair half price deal was spread across both pairs, (so not actually 2nd pair half price) meaning I wasn’t refunded the full amount I paid for the boots.
Be warned, there’s no after sales service at No1 shoes, in fact they’ll do everything they can to be unhelpful once they’ve got your money.

Bad service and not helpful

Bad service and not helpful. Brought pair of shoes, only worn about 12 times and sides by soles coming apart. Paid a lot of money for them, but because I didn’t have receipt and did not know when I brought them, they said nothing they could. Obviously a manufacture fault. If you spend a lot of money, you should expect them to last for a while. Beware when buying shoes here if you dont have any receipt or proof of purchase. Bad, bad service

Coastlands The Number One Shoe Store.

I was recently in The Number One shoe store in Coastlands Paraparaumu where I purchased a pair of Skechers and was served by James, whom I found to be very pleasant, friendly and helpful, making me a very satisfied customer, and my shopping experience that much nicer. So thank you James for that. 😉

Disappointed

Disappointed
My elderly mother who isn’t that mobile went to Eastgate store, where she was offered no help, luckily I wasn’t far behind her. She needed help with sizing, and I also had to go to the counter to ask for a shoe horn. if I hadn’t been there she wouldn’t have managed to buy the shoes she did. A bit disappointed

No warning Shoe Sizing runs big, costs you

Shoes size for the Glacier Gumboots run big and number one shoes do not inform customer on website. it means the shoes end up costing 3 lots of postage (purchase first time, return post + purchase 3rd time). Postage cost ended up being $30 for a single pair of shoes. crazy !!

They said you could return for exchange and they absorb, but when the sizing is off that does not work. As there is no guarantee the next up / down size is your size, so you have try and compare e.g. meaning you need both pairs with you.

School shoes don't even last one term

School shoes don't even last one term. Do not buy and invest in quality school shoes that will last. Sports shoes are also overpriced. Managed to get branded sports shoes from Rebel sport less than Number 1 shoes brands.

Terrible experience

Terrible experience, purchased shoes online and their system had a glitch and processed them at full price not the discounted one. They admitted it was their fault but said they can’t refund me the difference online and that i had to go all the way into town to take back the shoes and re buy them at the discounted price. How ridiculous
Some people aren’t able due to disabilities to get into town and shop online only. (They couldn’t care less when i informed them of this)
Definitely not a business that supports their disabled customers.
