I had an eye test at the Richmond branch. There’s a sign outside advertising “free eye tests,” which I thought was good - I assumed there was no obligation to buy glasses there. I then took a loo... See more

Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service, I wouldn't recommend.
I booked an appointment for contact lenses over 2 weeks in advance, they cancelled it a couple of days before because looking at my prescription they needed to order the lenses. But they had my prescription for over 2 weeks so could have done this before. They told me it would be a week for them to arrive. It instead took a month, without any updates even though I chased and got no answers to my email. At that point I was thinking about going elsewhere but they emailed saying they had my lenses so I didn't want to cause any issues as they had ordered them and went. When I initially enquired about contact lenses I was told the trial cover the first month of lenses only to be told at my appointment that it only covered 7 days. The staff then acted like I was lying. Clearly a lot of training needed.

Hi Emeline,

Thanks for your feedback here, and sorry to hear about your experience with Ollie Quinn, especially with respect to the lack of communication you have mentioned here.

EDIT: Thank you also for taking my call earlier, and for your understanding regarding the issues you faced. I'm very sorry for both the miscommunication you received, as well as the unsatisfactory delay in communication and the experience you had in store. I will raise these with the manager at the location you went to, as well as our regional manager to make sure these issues do not arise again.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any other comments or questions at all.

Kind regards,
Team OQ

£145 glasses fell apart in 18 months…

£145 glasses fell apart in 18 months and they offered no way to repair - sounds like they expected their glasses to break that quickly. Avoid. Really disappointing.

EDIT: Worth adding that Ollie Quinn tried to have this review removed by claiming it was defamatory, and it was restored by Trustpilot. That's the kind of business they are!

EDIT 2: Because I can't reply to the comment, you sell the same exact glasses for £145, and were going to charge me that (before discount) for a replacement - so they are, factually, £145 glasses. If you don't think they are, then don't sell them for £145.

You did not, from the email you sent me, offer to discount them as a "goodwill gesture" - you said "Because these sunglasses are now discontinued, we are able to sell them with a 50% discount if you would like to replace them."i.e. they are already discounted? Regardless, why would I pay £72.50 for a pair of glasses that are going to fall apart again that quickly? You surely understand that a consumer expects you to be able to repair a product that is that expensive?

Also - "Sounds like they expected..." is very different from "They expected..." or "They clearly expected..." - defamation is a statement of fact and that is clearly a subjective interpretation by me. Calling negative, but ultimately fair reviews defamation is a bad look for your business.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for your review, we are always appreciative of feedback as it helps us constantly improve. The reason we flagged this review as defamatory was because of the comment 'sounds like they expected their glasses to break that quickly' which is simply untrue and defamatory to write in public forum.

Furthermore, your review states that you paid £145, when we can see on our system that you paid £105. We also offered to replace these sunglasses despite them being outside of warranty for 50% off as a goodwill gesture.

Kind regards,
Team OQ

Poor quality lenses and reluctant customer care

Very disappointed in the quality and service from Ollie Quinn. I purchased glasses from them in the summer of 2023 and whilst the store staff were friendly, there were problems with the way they adjusted the glasses and issues with debris in between the lenses and the frames, present when I first went to collect the glasses. I raised this with the staff and they tried to rectify the problem, but at the time it very much felt like they weren't sure how to sort it and were just guessing! Most of the debris was removed but not quite all.

Fast forward to 2024 and I notice there's a small fuzzy point in my vision, present when wearing either pair of OQ glasses, in slightly different spots. I clean the glasses using the cleaner and cloth provided to me by OQ, but there's a little mark on the lens as if the coating is coming off. The glasses had primarily been worn for driving, so hardly full time use, plus I used both pairs equally. I always kept them in the OQ cases when not being worn. I got in touch with Ollie Quinn, attached photos of the issue and although they were quick to respond, it was suggested that I had perhaps kept a stone or key in the case with the glasses! I was quite taken aback and offended by this suggestion, particularly as I'd already made it very clear how they'd been cared for appropriately and as directed.

I appreciate that they have a 1 year warranty, but for the lenses on both pairs of glasses to be degrading so soon and after very light wear is really not good enough. Ollie Quinn have said I can send the glasses to them to inspect (at my cost), but won't guarantee to replace or repair the lenses free of charge without determining the cause of damage first. Given their tone in early emails to me, suggesting that I'd not stored or looked after the glasses appropriately, I have very little faith in them agreeing that it is indeed a manufacturing/quality issue.

Update Feb 2025: the coating on the lenses of one of the pairs is now degrading in another spot! I'm appalled by the quality.

Hi Charlotte,

Thanks for your review, we always appreciate feedback as it helps us constantly improve.

After reviewing your customer service inquiry and the photos attached it is unfortunately very clear that the issues with your lenses are not due to a faulty coating.

The photos show scratches on the lens. When coatings are faulty the faults usually appear within the first 6 months and appear quite differently to the markings on your lenses. This particular issue is also extremely rare, and we are proud of the quality of the lenses and coatings that come from our partner lab.

When my colleague appraised the photos of your glasses and mentioned a key or a stone, this is simply because this is consistent with the cause of the types of marking shown on your lenses in previous cases. We are sorry that this caused offense on your part.

Normally we would replace these free of charge within the 1 year warranty period but as your glasses are outside of this period we cannot replace them free of charge. We're very upfront about this warranty period, as it is mentioned when we sell anything in a store and it is mentioned on every product page on our website.

Apologies that we can't be of more help here.

Kind regards,
Team OQ

Ollie Quinn used to be good

Ollie Quinn used to be good, I’m now through my 4th/5th pair of glasses now. Each have broken on the same left arm on the hinge. The price of the glasses has increased to a point they’re on par with designer brands that are better put together in other shops. Will not be returning for another pair from them as they just break after 6-9months of use and now cost well within the £200-£300+ price mark. I’ve been even more annoyed that each time I’ve brought in these glasses there is no due care to even believe that maybe your frames are weak and just aren’t put together well, even after a break in the same place across your different range of glass frames there has been 0 customer service to replace the frame from a fault, all it’s been is “yeah you have to pay full price again soooorrrry”

To put into perspective. I owned a pair of Beats studios a while back, loved them and after 3 years of CONSTANT use, 10-14 hours per day… they broke. Called up their support, it was out of warranty but they said that where it broke is a known “weak spot”. They replaced it free of charge. Maybe use that as a lesson.

Personalised, efficient service

I went to renew some fantastic OQ glasses I had lost but Rory informed me my prescription was out of date. As it was a time sensitive order, he quickly outlined my options for me to get a new prescription abroad and expedited the order for me so I could pick up during a short window in the UK. He was so helpful and a testament to the reason why I keep on coming back to OQ for 5+ years now. Thanks again Rory!
