Onkyo is good, their service is great

For about 8 years or so, I have had very good use of my Onkyo HTR 591. Sometime recently the remote got to where it would not control the volume. Everything else worked, but the volume control. I tried all the reset info in the book but was not able to resolve it. I called Onkyo Customer Service and reached a nice lady named Shirley. She had me go through some of the same steps that I had already done and then a couple that I had not tried. Still no success in getting it to work. She concluded that the remote needed repair and then offered to get it repaired. I asked about a replacement instead and she looked up the replacement to determine if it was available. She then gave me two options on how to order it. One through email and the other via the Onkyo website. She recommended that the direct method thru the website would be less likely to get delayed. She waited on the phone while I tried to get the part listing to come up and we tried typing the model info in several ways but it would not come up. I then thought of trying a different browser other than Firefox. When I tried thru Microsoft Edge, it came up. I then proceeded with the order. All through this time she was patient, helpful and friendly. I asked her about the warranty on the new remote and she went to find that info. She came back again with the information and was nice and helpful about it. I do hope that some other customer service personnel read this and consider that providing a little helpful and friendly service is all that people want and as Shirley has so well demonstrated, it is not too hard to do. Thank you Shirley.

Onkyo - Let's down its customers again

I have had 4 different Onkyo AV receivers and have issues with HDMI board failures, I trusted that they would learn and produce better products, especially when you can pay £ 1500-£2000 for quality and you get a useless piece of junk after a relatively short time. I spent many hours trying to understand the problem with my current Onkyo NR1010 as not believing it was yet another HDMD board issue. But sadly they have failed me again, Onkyo please respond and if you are a good company then repair my unit. I will update this feedback If I hear a reply to this review from your representatives.

Poor Warranty Service

This started over 4 weeks ago when I brought my TN-400s turntable in for warranty repair service. After just 3 days they had found the problem and contacted Onkyo/Teac. Onkyo told the service company that they did not have the part needed and that they would ship a new unit to the customer (me). Weeks went by and no new turntable. So after a couple of weeks, I tried to call the parts department with no success. I emailed the parts department multiple times and only received one response... "We will look into this for you". After many emails from me and the service company, it was confirmed that Onkyo dropped the ball and never processed the warranty replacement. With the avoidable delay, we ran into the current COVID 19 lockdown situation. Now there are no units available to be shipped so I am being given a refund.

Now, days and emails after my first request asking about the refund, they finally tell me I will be refunded $169.00, the cost of the unit I purchased without tax. A new unit today will cost me $280. So now not only am I not getting a replacement, I can't get my old unit, and they are refunding me $10 less than I actually paid, and $100 less than it would be to buy a new one.

I need to express my frustration and unhappiness with this resolution. While I understand that the current COVID 19 issues are complicating matters, if this was handled in a timely fashion, it would have been done before the lockdown. I no longer want a replacement, in fact, this will be the last Onkyo/Teac product I purchase. I just wanted to be treated better, compensated fairly, and for my time and frustration to be taken into considerat

Onkyo...I expected better! Very sad. Never again!

I purchased a TX-NR696 receiver on 3/19/2020 from Electronic Express to replace my "long in the tooth" Denon AVR-4311CI which had a minor intermittent HDMI connection issue (had to pull power to reset). What a bad move!

Immediately after connecting all of my speakers (5.1) and music sources, I noticed an intermittent "crackling" sound. I got nervous as my Denon had no such issues. First, I upgraded the firmware. No change. I disconnected everything except my two front Klipsch - Reference Series Dual 8" 600-Watt speakers and still the crackling. I then plugged up my Koss wired headphones and tried different sources...still the crackling. I called Electronic Express and due to quarantine, they said they couldn't help me (no exchange no refund) and to call Onkyo.

I called Onkyo and the agent said he was sorry but my only recourse was to SHIP it at my OWN EXPENSE to a service center in Michigan (I live in TN). He volunteered to have a supervisor call me which he did 2 days later but left me a voicemail with no call back number and upon redialing the caller ID there was no way to reach him. Nice.

I will never again buy Onkyo. Shame on you, Onkyo!

Good news on Electronic Express front: they said after the quarantine that they will allow me to exchange it. Whew!

My Onkyo receiver went up in flames…

My Onkyo receiver went up in flames luckily I was home or my house would have probably burnt down. I contacted them and all they would offer is a trade in for a new one with about an 80.00 discount. Needless to say I have contacted a lawyer. I also asked for a manager to contact me to avoid this but apparently they don't feel it's important enough to contact me. I'm done buying Onkyo because of safety and there lack of respect for people who buy there products.I wanted a new receiver at the very least and now we shall have to wait and see how it turns out.

I can't recommend Onkyo

I can't recommend Onkyo. I had an Onkyo TXNR616 but after just a few years it has failed due to a known design fault which causes all sound to stop. Onkyo did have a special repair programme setup to repair these but it ended in 2018 so I now have a rather large paper weight. The only option I have is to send it in to a repair centre which will cost as much as a new AV reciever. I will certainly replace this with a different/more reliable brand.

Non existant customer service.

Like most of the other reviewers, i have spent over 2.5 hrs waiting for customer support to answer the telephone, and have still not been able to talk to them. I'm so frustrated, I have always bought Onkyo AV receivers, however, I will certainly buy from an alternative supplier in the future.

I have a HT-S5100 Home theatre system…

I have a HT-S5100 Home theatre system which is quite old now. A kid messed up the remote control and I could not get it to work no matter what I tried. I called Onkyo Tech Support and a nice young man helped me. We tried many things and it would not work. Then he explained and waited while I reset the remote with batteries out. Replaced the batteries and VOILA....IT WORKS AGAIN !! I am very grateful to Onkyo for helping and supporting this older product. Most companies would not have done this. THANK YOU ONKYO!!

Absolute rubbish support from Onkyo.

I have been trying to contact Onkyo customer service on the number from their website for over 2 weeks. All I get is a message that they are experiencing a very high level of calls and there will be a wait. Have given up after around 15 minutes. This is either total rubbish or they have the most unreliable products on the planet! The number I have been calling has been confirmed as correct t by an Onkyo dealer. Also tried their email support who were less than helpful.

Total Garbage!

Do not waste your money on Onkyo products. I have had an Onkyo receiver for around four years. Around two years ago it was repaired under warranty with an issue that affected Onkyo receivers globally (HDMI board failure). The receiver has now failed again with exactly the same issue. I will NEVER again purchase an Onkyo product, and I would advise anyone considering purchasing an Onkyo product to get something from a more reputable manufacturer.
