First time having a cockerel for Christmas instead of a turkey and it was delicious. I prefer the dark meat and it was off the scale for taste and moistness. The breast was beautiful and both meats were just as tasty cold the next day, as an added bonus I have in the freezer loads of bags of broth made from the carcass which I will use during the year.

We wanted something different for Christmas lunch and wanted a good quality meat and saw the advert for cockerel from Packington.
My (80 year old) husband’s father had been a butcher and my husband remembered having cockerel for Christmas day on a fee occasions so we gave it a go.
The meat was outstanding! I couldn’t believe how moist it was and the flavour was superb! It tasted like meat used to taste!
We opted for the 3kg - 4kg bird but as there were only 2 of us I removed the legs so i could freeze them (one thigh would easily do for a meal for the 2 of us) and cooked it as a crown.
My husband reckons it was one of (if not ‘the’) best Christmas meals he can remember - now that is a compliment.
Definitely going to fo the same next year too.
(We had previously had a pack of Packington chicken thighs from Ocado which i used in a curry and the taste of the chicken really came through - it was ace!)
