On February 24, 2024, my wife paid $105 for a gift certificate at Page One's website. I placed an order for a book subscription (6 books over 3 months) on March 25, 2024. I followed up with PageOneBoo... See more
If I could give zero stars I would. Echoing the other 1-star reviews on here, I was also ripped off by this sham retailer. I purchased a 3 month subscription for my father for Christmas in 2022; as... See more

Written for High School children!
I am trying to continue to read this latest selection of book from the subscription and cannot go further.
"The Sweetness of the Bottom of the Pie" by Alan Bradley. I think , I am reading a book from the High School library.
Please send me a fresh selection for April's selection and please, do not send me any more books written by Alan Bradley.
New Ownership is the issue.
This is my second round of a Page 1 Subscription. My first round was amazing - fantastic books, hand-curated for me. The books they sent are now some of my lifetime favorites. This new round, however, is a different story. They have not sent a single book on time. It looks as though they are under new ownership, and I think that’s why the recent entries are so negative. New owner appears to be mismanaging.
Great choice
Received my first e-book and I’m impressed as it is quite an insightful choice based on my reading patterns. Be aware, you are paying for a curated book selection so if you don’t want to pay for this service don’t choose this subscription.
A joke? A scam?
When I received my book I thought it was a joke… $40 for a $17 book and that book was pulled straight from my good reads recommendations. I don’t understand why I paid over double the cost of the book. You could say I paid for the experience or having someone recommend a book to me but seeing as how no real thought process was put into picking this book for me it feels like more of a scam. This service seems more attuned to people who want to take pictures of the packaging of their books for social media and less for people who want good books recommended. I would never use this service again.
Paid $185 for a six month subscription…
Paid $185 for a six month subscription and my first book was a $13 paperback. The book was matched to me which was fine but I was shocked to receive a cheap paperback. I thought when they sent paperbacks there was supposed to be 2 books sent. So far they have struck out...it will be interesting to see what the next five months bring.
A year has now passed and every month…
A year has now passed and every month has been a winner! I made a special request for a specific genre and it was honored with perfect selections. Page 1 is the best!
Likes and dislikes
I've waited until my subscription was finished so I could leave a full review. Overall, I'd give my subscription a 3 out of 5 stars.
What I like: Mainly I liked the surprise each month. I'm not too picky of a reader so almost anything goes. I was even introduced to a new genre that I've really enjoyed reading. I got one book that was unbearable to read so they swapped that out, although I did have to email several times to get them to ship it because "someone forgot".
What I dislike: Unfortunately I only received soft cover books for all 6 of my books. It says a mix of hard and soft covers so I assumed I would get atleast one hard cover. The extra gifts were nothing impressive, though that's not what the subscription was for so no big deal there. It didn't seem like they actually read my, very detailed, list of likes and dislikes. I had one main dislike that I listed which was books based is history or historical settings. I received two books like that. Also, I received a book from a series but it was the second book in the series so I had to buy the first one from Amazon before I could read the one I was sent.
After all is said and done, I would not try another subscription with them.
Summary of my overall experience
My most recent book that I received was interesting, but it was a very slow start. I am still trying to pick it up. However, as for the very first book I got in January as part of this subscription, I am reading the rest of the series, totally hooked! I had no idea I would be so into steampunk fantasy, but I loved it! Also enjoyed my second book; great time period! My third book was good, I enjoyed the fairy tale retelling!!
Great Books
I loved my first book that I got- A Winter's Promise in the Mirror Visitor series. It had everything I like- lovable characters and characters you love to hate, a good plot line, and intricate world building. I will definitely read the rest of the books in this series. I look forward to reading my new book for this month!
In love with Page One…
This is absolutely my favorite subscription. I budget for it right along with mortgage and groceries. I can’t get through the books fast enough, but each one has been exactly what I would purchase for myself! The little gifts and the packaging are added treats! Love Page One!
Excellent Book, Excellent Service
I was expecting my box to take quite a while to arrive, as it was shipped Media Mail. It arrived shockingly quick, however! Unfortunately, my book did not have an easy journey. The box arrived damaged. Ryan, however, provided great customer service and we were able to work out a solution. As for the book they chose for me, Peter Heller's The Guide, I couldn't be more impressed. I really enjoyed the story, Heller's way with language, and that I was able to make a lot of personal connections with the main character, Jack. I'm looking forward to becoming a long-standing subscriber!
Perfect Horror Pick!
I filled out my Page 1 Subscription about a month ago and recently received my package. I received a novella and a small candle in the scent fine print and everything was really adorable from the book wrapping to the item combination.
I was a little skeptical at first, because I've read the author before and came away a little lukewarm but the one they sent me was a 5 star read. I feel like, while I like horror, I can be a little hard to impress in that genre because it's hard to creep me out through a book (I'm definitely more of a fantasy reader overall). However, the novella they sent was creepy, well written, and something I will definitely reread in the future. I devoured it in a few hours the night it came and I definitely look forward to my future subscriptions!
I LOVE this subscription and company
I signed up for the three month subscription to help get me out of my reading funk, and it wildly exceeded my expectations! Every book they sent was perfect, and one I had not yet read. I love their policy of wanting to ensure you love the book you receive. You don't see that with any other subscription! I also really love how they pick the books for you by getting to know you with as little or as much information as you feel like sharing. Also, supporting a smaller business over a huge subscription service feels better to me. Finally, the shipment is beyond! It's like a little present every month. I have found myself not able to read as much lately (working mom life), but as I finish the books sent from my first round of the subscription, I will be back for more!
A great subscription option!
I just finished up my three month subscription to Page1 and I absolutely loved it! All three books I received were awesome picks for me, and I loved the surprise every month. I'd definitely order from here again!
Do not subscribe to this service
Do not subscribe to this service. The books arrive late and are usually ones I have already read. Spend your money on books at your local independent book store. You'll be much happier.

I love my Page 1 subscription
I love my Page 1 subscription. They always seem to get it right and I look forward to my box every month. Mind readers!
I am so excited
I am so excited! I purchased a three-month subscription and just got my first shipment. The book pick was one that I had never heard of before, but it was perfectly curated for me and I can’t wait to read it. I love mysteries AND Jane Austen, so this was just great, and the game was a pleasant little bonus surprise!
First Box
First Box: The Searcher by Tana French... I live Tana French, so this was a good choice. I’d seen a lot of reviews saying that this fell short of her earlier work, and I’d agree with that. It was a good read and enjoyable, it just didn’t have the same pull as her Dublin Murder Squad series.
Page 1 found my niche
I received a subscription to Page 1. for the holidays and could not be happier with the book I received. I thought selecting a book for me was going to be really difficult because I almost exclusively like reading non-fiction books about public policy and urban planning. I've often had trouble in book stores finding something for me that wasn't a text book or a travel guide. So, I was delightfully surprised to receive "The Address Book," by Deirdre Mask which is about how having a proper home address and street name is essential to elevating people's quality of life. This is the exact genre I was looking for and that I'd had such a hard time finding.
To be honest, I'm not a huge reader anymore but I really want to start again. I'm really glad I have this subscription because I trust I'll continue to receive books that appeal to my interest. I'd recommend a Page 1 subscription for anyone who's already a reader or looking to start again, like I was.
Signed up with Page1 with some…
Signed up with Page1 with some trepidation...how could someone I don't know send me something I would want to read given my alarmingly eclectic book reading/collecting habits? They did it. Haven't started it yet, but it's a favorite author (whom I hadn't mentioned in my application), three related novels packaged together (well worth the price), and a set of intriguing premises relevant to current events. Bravo! Can't wait to get the next shipment.
